Take your surfing to new heights on an advanced surf holiday in Santa Teresa

One of Costa Rica’s best playgrounds for surfers of all levels, Santa Teresa is renowned for its great year-round consistency. It also has a world-class beach and point breaks that, with the right swell, turn insanely hollow and fast. So, you shouldn’t be surprised by some pros right beside you in the line-up.

What are the best waves in Santa Teresa for experienced surfers?

Playa Santa Teresa is the main beach just outside of town. It can be accessed on several paths from the main road and there are waves all along the beach, from the powerful right and left points to mellow beach breaks, all next to one another.

On the northern end of Playa Santa Teresa, Suck Rock, also known as Rocamar, is a local favorite. This powerful and barreling right point break is the best wave in Santa Teresa for advanced surfers. Just south of Suck Rock, La Lora can throw some serious barrels.

South of Santa Teresa, Mar Azul is a tricky left point break that’s considered the best in Malpais.

What are the vibes like in Santa Teresa?

Close to the tip of the Nicoya Peninsula, Santa Teresa is a small, laidback surf town that’s been pretty well hidden until recently. It has now become a coveted surf and yoga destination, with good restaurants, nightlife, and entertainment. But it’s luckily not too crowded yet.

A colorful mix of expats and travelers from all around the world come here in search of sunshine, waves, good vibes, and the Pura Vida lifestyle. And they get what they asked for!

What is the best time to surf in Santa Teresa for advanced surfers?

Although Santa Teresa has waves on almost any given day, the best time to go if you’re an experienced surfer is between March and November. The best conditions can be found between July and September.

The waves are at their best between 5 to 8 ft. With a low tide, they are fast and hollow. The best times of day are early morning and in the evening, when the waves are bigger and longer.
