Program
Shark’s Lodge provides fun surf lessons tailored to each individual's experience and skill level. Classes are taught by experienced, certified instructors who will ensure that you'll have the best time of your life catching waves. Each surf lesson takes two hours.
In the first lesson, the surf instructors will give you a proper introduction to the sport of surfing and the science behind it, including a detailed explanation about safety. In the water, the instructor will be by your side, giving you tips and pushing you to help you catch waves until you develop your paddle to do so on your own.
Last but not least, as a student, you will receive the appropriate equipment for your needs and level of surfing, as Shark’s Lodge has a wide range of surfboards and wetsuits at your disposal.

Instructors
Paulo Barbosa
Paulo is the director and co-owner of the company. He is Portuguese with over 25 years of experience in the outdoors, professional or vocational training, and expeditions. He was a technical director in the first rafting company in Portugal, director of the three first 500 kilometers adventure races, a national team member in the Eco-Challenge, coordinator for Outward Bound, and owns two adventure companies in different countries.

Peniche is known as the wave capital in Europe due to its exclusive geography, providing the best surfing conditions for more than 300 days per year. This made Peniche widely known for its unique waves, as it gave the names to the beaches "Supertubos," Lagide, and Baleal. These facts and more led ASP in 2009 to establish one of the World Tour of Surfing stages there, and it's also the proscenium to the Rip Curl Pro Peniche.

Scuba diving
Discover the transparent and amazing underwater world of Berlengas, a small archipelago located about 10 kilometers west of Peniche, which has been classified as a Nature Reserve since September 3, 1981. Its marine reserve is classified as a "Biosphere Reserve" by the Council of Europe since 2011 and "World Biosphere Reserve" by the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
Trip to Berlengas
The Berlenga Nature Reserve is a unique place due to its transparent sea and underwater treasures. It is a marine reserve and has been classified by the Council of Europe as a "Biosphere Reserve." The archipelago consists of a large island, Berlenga Grande, and some small granite islands and rocks (Estelas and Farilhões), which are situated some seven miles off the headland of Cabo Carvoeiro to the northwest of Peniche.
The island of Berlenga Grande can be seen from the mainland when there is no sea mist. There, you will find endemic species of flora, as well as one of the preferred nesting sites for seabirds.
Built on a rock adjacent to the Berlenga Island and connected to it by a small bridge, there stands the Forte de São João Baptista, a Manueline military fortress built in 1502. The island’s tiny beaches, with their clear blue sea, are very beautiful and ideal for swimming and diving.
Access to the island is by boat, with departures from Peniche harbor. It takes roughly 30 minutes to reach Berlenga Grande. There is also a restaurant on the island.

Lisbon Portela Airport

Arrival by airplane
Please arrive at the Lisbon Portela Airport (LIS). This is the closest airport to Peniche and is about 90 km from Shark's Lodge. From Lisbon, it’s possible to travel to Peniche by car (about one hour) or by bus (about one and a half hours).
Arrival by car
Please take the A8 Highway direction to Leiria. Stop at the toll to collect a ticket and pay at the next toll. Drive toward Peniche, exiting via the IP6 off-ramp. At the third roundabout (Nossa Senhora da Boa Viagem), take the first exit toward Baleal. After one kilometer, you will find the urbanization Sol Village II. Turn right, and at the roundabout, take the third exit, and you will arrive.
Arrival by bus
You can take the Rede Expressos bus at Praça Marechal Humberto Delgado, located at Rua das Laranjeiras, 1500-543, Lisbon. Usually, there are departures to Peniche every two hours. If you are somewhere in Lisbon, you can catch the subway to the bus terminal, the station is Jardim Zoológico on the blue line. Upon arrival at the bus terminal of Peniche, Shark's Lodge is a 25-minute walk away.
