Take your surfing to new heights on an advanced surf holiday in Taghazout

Famous for its right-hand point breaks, the gnarliest in North Africa, and some of the best in the world, the small surf town of Taghazout is Morocco’s premier surfing destination.

What are the best waves in Taghazout for experienced surfers?

North of town, Boilers peels off an old shipwreck. This tricky, long, fast, and hollow right-hand reef break is one of the most spectacular surf spots in Morocco. A world-class right-hand point break, Dracula’s is a challenging wave that works with a big swell, offering long peelers and perfect barrels.

Killer Point is a remarkably consistent point break that holds the biggest waves in the area. You can expect long rides with fast sections, bowls, and rad barrels. One of the most rippable waves near Taghazout, Mysteries gets insanely hollow.

Morocco’s most famous surf spot, Anchor Point is located just north of town. Consistent and clean, it has a steep take-off and a fast hollow finish. With a big swell, Anchor Point is often described as a freight train.

What are the vibes like in Taghazout?

A sleepy fishing village turned bustling surf town, Taghazout is a preferred getaway during the Northern Hemisphere winter, attracting pro surfers from all over the globe.

Thanks to its booming surf culture, tourism is more developed as compared to its neighboring villages. Located right next to the ocean, you’ll find authentic fish and craft markets, cafes, surf shops, and restaurants serving both Moroccan and international cuisine.

Public consumption of alcohol is frowned upon. Therefore, the bar and party scenes are not as active. But it is very much possible to enjoy a drink and party on the surf camps’ rooftop terraces.

What is the best time to surf in Taghazout for advanced surfers?

Strong and consistent Atlantic swells hit the shores in winter. Therefore, December through March is prime time for advanced surfers to hit the waves, as most of the famous surf spots put on their best performance with seriously big swells.

The challenging waves in Taghazout work with a northeasterly swell. The winds are almost always offshore and morning is the ideal time to score some glassy conditions.
