Surfing
Whether you are a complete beginner or an intermediate surfer looking for some tips to improve your surfing, Shark's Lodge provides personal, caring, and professional surf lessons, adapting the teaching techniques to each individual. With relatively small groups, each student will have enough attention and an optimum learning experience.
Classes are taught by experienced surfers and certified surf instructors (IPDJ) who teach surfing in a safe and responsible manner while ensuring that you have the best time of your life catching waves.
Each surf lesson takes two to three hours. On the first lesson, the surf instructor implements a short briefing, giving you a proper introduction to the sport of surfing and the science behind it, including a detailed explanation of safety measures that have to be followed.
You will receive the appropriate equipment that fits your needs and level of surfing. They have a wide range of surfboards and wetsuits at your disposal.
The surf teachers have been introducing beginner surfers to the sport of surfing for close to 20 years. Through its long experience, they have refined their teachings and offer the best beginner courses available anywhere. The multi-day beginner courses are available for everyone.
What you will learn during your surf lessons are the following:

Yoga classes
The yoga practice will be based on Vinyasa flow and Hatha yoga. Vinyasa flow combines the breath with the body’s natural ability for movement to create a flowing, dance-like practice which burns away toxins in the body and clears the mind.
The Hatha yoga’s aspect of the practice is focused on the foundation of the asanas, or yogic postures, and will allow you to understand the dynamics of your body and to feel the proper alignment within each asana. You will be doing yoga once a day. The yoga lessons are mainly designed as a complement to surf lessons.
Location
Peniche is known as the wave capital in Portugal due to its exclusive geography, providing the best surfing conditions for more than 300 days per year. This made Peniche widely known for its unique waves, as it gave the name to the beach "Supertubos" and Lagide, Baleal. These facts and more led ASP in 2009 to establish one of the World Tour of Surfing's stages here and it's also the proscenium to the Rip Curl Pro Peniche.

Scuba diving
Discover the transparent and amazing underwater world of Berlengas, a small archipelago located about 10 kilometers west of Peniche which has been classified as a Nature Reserve since September 3, 1981. Its marine reserve is classified as a "Biosphere Reserve" by the Council of Europe since 2011 and "World Biosphere Reserve" by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
Trip to the Berlengas
The Berlenga Nature Reserve is a unique place due to its transparent sea and underwater treasures. It is a marine reserve and has been classified by the Council of Europe as a "Biosphere Reserve". The archipelago consists of a large island, Berlenga Grande, and some small granite islands and rocks (Estelas and Farilhões), which are situated some seven miles off the headland of Cabo Carvoeiro to the north-west of Peniche.
The island of Berlenga Grande can be seen from the mainland when there is no sea mist. Here, you will find endemic species of flora, as well as one of the preferred nesting sites for seabirds.
Built on a rock adjacent to the Berlenga Island and connected to it by a small bridge, there stands the Forte de São João Baptista, a Manueline military fortress built in 1502. The island’s tiny beaches with their clear blue sea are very beautiful and ideal for swimming and diving.
Access to the island is by boat, with departures from Peniche harbor. It takes roughly 30 minutes to reach Berlenga Grande. There is also a restaurant on the island.

Driving directions from Lisbon
- Take the A8 Highway and drive North direction Leiria / Porto.
- Stop at the toll to collect a ticket and pay on the next toll. Drive towards Peniche exiting via the IP6 off-ramp.
- At the last roundabout (Nossa Senhora da Boa Viagem roundabout) and before you enter Peniche turn right in the direction of Baleal, you’ll find us, when you enter in Sol village II in Rua do Salgado 13.
Public bus from Lisbon
The best way is to get a taxi or subway or shuttle bus from the airport to the central station with the address Praça Marechal Humberto Delgado - Rua das Laranjeiras and then get an “Expresso” at Terminal Sete Rios or to Terminal Campo Grande bus to Peniche. Once in Peniche you can get a taxi from the bus station to Sharks Lodge.
