Itinerary
Day 1
The trip starts off at sunrise where you will get out of the Lima metro area as early as possible to avoid the heavy, time-killing morning commute. The farther north Waves Surf Camp Peru will drive you, you will notice the landscape and environment start to change, with more scenic rivers and valleys coming into view and the weather gradually getting warmer the further north you go. The first stop will be for breakfast in the small town of Chancay at a hidden local culinary gem.
After breakfast, you will kick off the real action with the first surf session of the trip in Huaura. After scoring morning surf, you will continue on your journey north, stopping in the town of Barranca for lunch. After checking in to your beachfront hotel for a quick rest, you will have a couple of options for the afternoon surf session, depending on the swell and conditions. Afterward, you will have dinner at a cool spot in front of the beach and turn in for the night.
Day 2
At dawn’s early light, you will get breakfast and hit the road. You will pass the historical fortress, Fortaleza de Paramonga. There, you will find uncrowded waves for your first surf of the day. After surfing until your arms can paddle no more, you will stop in Huarmey for lunch. From there, you will head north until you hit the world-famous picturesque beach town of Huanchaco. After checking into your room for the night, you can hit the town for dinner and a little exploring.
Day 3
After breakfast, your morning session will be held at the regional classic, El Elio. The wave offers a great opportunity to really improve your surfing in bigger and uncrowded waves that offer long consistent rides. During this span of the trip, you will be passing the archaeologically significant ruins of Chan Chan, a well-preserved ancient city dating back to pre-Inca times. If you would like to stop for a quick tour, Waves Surf Camp Peru will gladly take you.
Once you hit the town of Paijan, you will exit toward Puerto Malabrigo, the town in which Chicama, the longest wave in the world, is located. After checking in into your room and grabbing a quick bite to eat, you are off to tackle this endlessly long wave. You will have your dinner and rest afterward.
Day 4
At the crack of dawn, after a quick breakfast, you will be back to action at Chicama. You will surf until you cannot surf anymore and then you will wait there until a few waves after that. You will have a well-deserved lunch after the epic leg cramping experience that is Chicama. From there, you will be off to your final destination in the north, Pacasmayo.
Known as Chicama’s big brother, Pacasmayo has heavier and more powerful waves than Chicama, and on the right day and swell, it can offer just as long of rides, if not longer. It also offers a scenic beach town with warm weather and great vibes. You will then return to Chicama for dinner and call it a night.
Day 5
At sunrise, you will have breakfast and surf for your one last session at Chicama. After that, you will head back toward the town of Trujillo, one of the biggest cities in Peru. After lunch, you will decide where to have the afternoon surf session. Oftentimes, by this point, the guests will opt for a rest, but the option to surf is on the table if you so choose. At night, if you would like to experience the nightlife with some local ladies or guys for you, lady shredders, Waves Surf Camp Peru can definitely make that happen and highly recommend it as well.
Day 6
After breakfast and a morning surf session, you will say farewell to the Huanchaco, the laid-back beach town, the surfers, the fisherman, and the Caballos de Totoras, the traditional Peruvian fishing kayaks that some claims were the original surfboards. From there, you will continue down south through one of the most unique geographical regions on the planet. In a matter of a few hours, you will pass through vast coastlines, arid desserts, lush green river valleys, and even the lower levels of the Andes mountains.
There, you will find culture and wildlife unlike anywhere else you have ever seen. You will arrive back in Barranca where you will have your afternoon surf. After a long week of surfing your brains out, sharing a once-in-a-lifetime adventure, and no doubt becoming friends for life, you will have a well-deserved dinner and most likely sleep like a baby.
Day 7
For the last day of the trip, you will decide whether to surf in Huaura, Barranca, or Lima based on the swell, conditions, and of course your input. You will then return to Lima, eat lunch, and part ways. Without a doubt, it will be a surf adventure of a lifetime.
