Program
Kitesurfing or kiteboarding is one extreme surface watersport that is really fun and exciting to learn! A kiteboarder harnesses the power of the wind with a large controllable power kite to be propelled across the water on a kiteboard similar to a wakeboard or a small surfboard, with or without foot straps or bindings. Just like paragliding or flying, the learning process of kitesurfing or kiteboarding is quite involved, and normally takes around six to eight hours of one on one tuition, before you become competent enough to take your own kite out to continue the practice.
In this camp, you will learn all the basic skills from safety, trainer kite, set up, onto flying the big kite, doing body dragging, downwind. Once you can body drag downwind and upwind without crashing the kite, learned the relaunching and self-rescue, you are then ready for the board!
The first kitesurf lesson
For first lessons, you would normally spend about 30-45 minutes on land, going through all the safety, theory, setup, and basic land drills, then the rest of your lesson will be on water.
You will be flying a full size kite, learning all you need about kite control, body dragging, relaunching and all essential kite skills. When you can demonstrate competency in kite control, you will be taught to ride the board. Riding the board normally happens in the second lesson. Learning how to kitesurf is like learning how to drive a car. Some people can get up riding within 3 hours, some may need longer.
Surf Connect Watersports Centre conducts an evaluation at the end of each lesson and gives you a copy to take home. That way you know exactly what you have learnt and accomplished in that lesson, and what still needs to be learnt.
Kitesurfing is an extreme sport that carries a high degree of danger, so it's very important you have all the basic skills before going on your own.
