Bell tents for 3: Large 8-man bell tents shared for 3 surf camp guests
All surf camp packages in Oyambre include accommodation in one of the large bell tents. Designed to sleep up to 8 people, you will be sharing a bell tent with a maximum of 2 other surf camp guests. All bell tents have a center pole, and an interior mesh zip curtain behind the door curtains and come with mesh windows at the base for better ventilation. The bell tents are tall enough to stand a surfboard in and wide enough for some morning yoga stretches.
A good night’s sleep is key when spending your days outside in the sun and in the water. That’s why they provide all surf camp guests with a single, high-quality memory foam mattress, no need to bring an inflatable mattress or camping mat. All mattresses are allergy-free, high-density, and super comfy. All you need to bring along on your surf trip is a pillow, sleeping bag, or bedding.
Bell tents for 2: Ideal for couples or 2 friends traveling together
If you’re going on surf holidays with your partner or friend and would like a private tent for just the two of you, you can upgrade to one of the private bell tents for 2 surf holiday guests here in Oyambre Surf Camp during the booking process. The private bell tent 2 options are the same spacious 8-man bell tents and come with high-quality mattresses, either as two singles or one double.
Bell tent for 1: Ideal for solo travelers
If you’re joining on your own and you would like your own private tent, then that’s no problem with the private bell tent for 1 option. You are staying in one of the spacious 8-man bell tents on a high-quality double mattress.
- Add bedding: Travel light and stay warm
The North of Spain can get a little chilly at night. If you wish to travel light and still be nice and warm at night, you can add the bedding option and get yourself a pillow, duvet, sheet, and covers to stay nice and warm at night.
Spacious Tipi tents for 2 with electricity, mattress, and raised bed frames
New additions to the Oyambre surf camp are the new tipi tents. Each tipi and decking are custom-fitted with an overlap that wraps over and around the wooden flooring for a snug fit at the base to ensure rain stays out and you dry inside. There are power inlets at the back for all your electronic devices, plus mesh pocket pouches by the bed to store your valuables. With a 3-meter head height and heavy-duty netting, the tipis offer great style, bug protection, and a cool breeze.
The tipis can be set up as twins with two single beds for you and a friend or for couples with one double bed. For added privacy and comfort, each tent has a private porch decking area and plenty of space underneath it to store your surf equipment. And just as with bell tents, tipis come with the same high-quality memory foam mattress that is allergy-free, high in density, and super comfy. All you need to bring is a pillow, sleeping bag, or bedding.
Private Tipi tents for 1: Ideal for solo travelers
If you’re joining on your own on this surf holiday and don’t want to compromise on comfort, then you can book our tipi tent for 1 option to stay in one of the spacious tipi tents incl. a high-quality double mattress.
- Add bedding: Travel light and stay warm
If you wish to travel light and not carry any sleeping bag or bedding, they offer a weekly bedding rental which you can add during the booking process.
Can you rent bedding
Yes, if you're planning on traveling light, you can rent bedding for the duration of your surf holidays. You can add the bedding option during the booking process.
Program
Located along the coast of Oyambre Natural Park, they have pitched the surf camp among the rolling hills of Cantabria. With a stunning mountain backdrop to one side of the surf camp and the seaside to the other, here in the north of Spain, you are spending your surf holidays in a beautiful location. The beach they teach surfing on is ‘Playa de Oyambre’, located only a short walk from the surf camp’s campsite.
Besides learning to surf, you can practice yoga on the surf camp-own yoga platform, come along on a stand-up paddle tour, explore the nearby towns of San Vicente de la Barquera and Comillas, and join many other fun outdoor activities.
Surf deluxe holiday package
The "Surf Deluxe" surf holiday package is the same as the "Surf Chill" package with an addition of 5 yoga sessions (75 minutes per session) including the use of all yoga equipment. Available add-ons to the "Surf Deluxe" package are an upgrade to twin or private tent occupancy, an upgrade to tipi tent accommodation, a surf lesson upgrade, surf equipment hire, 3/5 yoga sessions, transfers, and bedding.
Learn to surf in great beginner waves
The Oyambre area is a great place to learn to surf. In the summer months, the northern Spanish coast around Santander is hit by consistent swells that bring gentle rolling waves to our local, Oyambre Beach. With the most popular surf holiday packages here in Oyambre, the surf camp guests receive a 6-session surf course.
It includes 5 sessions of surfing (90 minutes each) the gentle waves of Playa de Oyambre, the beach just outside the surf camp, as well 1 session of surf theory (also 90 minutes) in the surf camp, teaching you about water safety, and rip currents. and the intricacies of Spanish beach breaks.
Surf course and surf instructors
During your week's surf course, the surf instructors teach you the essentials of surfing. These include a safety introduction to wave and beach awareness, how to paddle into waves, catch waves, and stand up and control your surfboard. They use soft surfboards, called ‘foamies’. Their soft foam construction means these surfboards are incredibly buoyant, enabling beginners to catch waves easily. Their dimensions ensure that they are very stable in the water, making it much easier for surf beginners to stand up.
All surf instructors are qualified, fully licensed in the country they teach surfing in, and also have a lifeguarding qualification. They have a good understanding of the wave conditions and local surf spots and are always ready to lend you a helping hand. The maximum group size for the surf lessons is eight surfers per instructor plus one surf assistant if required. All use of surf equipment, surfboard, leash, and wetsuit, is included during surf lessons time.
Your surf lessons start on Sundays. On your first day, all surfers meet at the surf tent in the morning for an introduction and wetsuit allocation. They divide all surfers into beginner and intermediate groups. Your surf lesson times are displayed on the notice board at reception.
3 surf course levels
- Beginner surf course
Perfect for those of you who have never surfed before or have only done a few surf lessons/a surf course, but have not surfed in a while and would benefit from starting with the basics. You will be learning the technique of paddling, standing up on a surfboard in white water, and how to get the timing right to catch a wave.
- Improver surf course
The right choice for those of you who have done several surf lessons or courses and have good confidence in the white water and an understanding of the basics: paddling, standing up on a surfboard, and catching a wave. The focus of the improver courses is on learning how to steer your surfboard with the right technique in both directions and on how to create speed.
- Intermediate surf course
Ideal for those of you who already have good confidence in the water, experience “outback” surfing green waves, and can perform maneuvers, such as bottom and top turns. You have a good level of fitness and an understanding of currents. You will focus on more advanced surfing techniques, and participants use the premium range of surfboards with the most experienced surf instructors
More surfing options
- Surf lesson upgrade
If you’d like to spend more time surfing when on surf holidays in Oyambre, you can add the surf lesson upgrade during the booking process. The surf lesson upgrade includes 2 90 minutes of additional surf lessons in the water with the surf team. If the conditions are right, they schedule at least one of these sessions at sunrise or sunset.
Suited to both beginner and intermediate surfers, the surf lesson upgrade allows for more time in the water with your surf instructor to further improve your surfing skills.
- Surf equipment hire
You have the option to rent your own surfboard, wetsuit, and leash while on surfing holidays in Oyambre. With Oyambre Beach only a short walk from the surf camp, you can go surfing in your own time whenever you please and make the most of your surfing holidays in northern Spain. They have a good range of beginner surfboards at the surf camp.
For safety reasons, all rental surfboards are soft ‘foamie’ surfboards, not hard surfboards. If you’re an intermediate to advanced surfer, they recommend you bring your own equipment.
Yoga in the surf camp: Revitalize your mind with yoga
Yoga has swept surfers off their feet with most professional surfers practicing yoga to help improve flexibility, core strength, and surfing performance. After a long day surfing, yoga is a fantastic way to improve your flexibility and strengthen your body.
They have built a large covered yoga platform above the surf camp with views over the mountains. They run a weekly yoga schedule with two yoga sessions per day (not Saturdays). The enthusiastic and professional yoga instructors make their sessions fun and accessible to ‘Yogis’ of all levels. Once a week, go down to the beach for an evening yoga session at sunset.
