Program

Daily Schedule

Special Surf 78 team will pick you up from your home 30 minutes before the start of your lesson. Upon arrival at the school, they will show you the changing rooms, which include changing booths and the equipment room. Then, they will hand out the equipment (board and wetsuit) appropriate to your skill level and size and inform you who your instructor will be. They will explain how to put on the wetsuit and answer any other questions you may have.

After you have put on your wetsuit and stored your belongings, and when all students in the group are equipped with their wetsuits (maximum of six students per instructor), the instructor will hand out the boards, which you will need to carry to the beach (50-100 meters from the school). Upon arriving at the beach, you can leave your flip-flops or water near the school flag, and then the surf lesson will begin.

  • A brief introduction and a ten-minute warm-up to prepare your body and mind for the activity you will be performing (light/medium intensity).
  • Lessons adapted to your level and physical condition, with high pedagogical and didactic quality, where success and fun are fundamental - 15 minutes.
  • Exercise on the sand (beginners and advanced) - Five minutes.
  • Practice in the water with appropriate feedback and direct help in the water, if necessary, with a pedagogical and didactic approach to observe and explain progress and difficulties.
  • Final reflection and summary of the lesson to set new goals for the next day and increase your self-confidence.

After your surf lesson, the instructor will help you transport your equipment back to the school, where you can take a hot or cold shower and chat with the staff and other students. Once everyone is ready, Surf 78 team will take you back home.

Surf Lessons

Have the best experience possible in surf lessons, with the right pedagogical and didactical approach by experienced surf coaches with 20+ years of experience and training in physical education, special needs, and Portuguese Surf Federation Coach Level 2.

The Surf School

The surf school is located in the bay of Peniche and Baleal, just a few meters from the water and perfectly equipped so you can fully concentrate on your lessons. They offer daily lessons in the morning and afternoon, always in small groups and adapted to your goals. If you wish, they can pick you up from your accommodation and take you back after surfing.

Whether you are a beginner in whitewater waves or an experienced surfer in calmer waves, their instructors will support you every step of the way. For advanced surfers, they offer video analysis and private lessons to help you make the most of every wave. Surfing should be fun, build confidence, and help you improve.

Location

Peniche, Portugal

Peniche is considered the best surfing destination in Portugal and one of the top destinations in Europe. Numerous, beautiful and extensive beaches, consistent waves and a vibrant atmosphere await you here, captivating you from day one.

The Surf House

The surf house boasts a spectacular beachfront location, overlooking the Papôa Peninsula and the raw power of the ocean. As soon as the sun sets on the horizon, you'll experience the tranquil yet wild atmosphere of Peniche's true north face. You can stroll or run along the beach right in front of your door, or simply enjoy the view. Peniche's historic center is just a short walk away, inviting you to explore it after a day of surfing.

Surroundings

Just steps from the surf house lies the Papoa Peninsula, an extraordinary location that preserves the remains of an ancient meteorite, active approximately 72 million years ago. The sea has sculpted the rocks into a wild and romantic landscape where history is palpable. Along the coast lies the wreckage of the Spanish warship San Pedro de Alcántara, founded in 1786, carrying valuable treasures from Peru. Today, Papoa is a favorite spot for fishermen and a haven for seabirds and offers breathtaking views of the sea and coastline. On the other side of the peninsula is Quebrado Beach, where fishermen with their small boats still find shelter from the wind and waves.

Just a few steps away, the wild beauty of Ponta do Trovão is revealed. It is internationally known for the so-called Golden Nail, which marks the boundary between two geological eras and reveals more than 20 million years of Earth's history. At the top of the rocks are the ruins of the 16th-century chapel of Nossa Senhora do Abalo, which once housed a precious sculpture of Christ crucified, brought to shore by the waves after a shipwreck. From here, the view extends along Abalo Beach to the imposing rock formation of Nau dos Corvos, inviting you to discover the stories hidden among the layers of rock.

A little further to the right of the house, the perfect beaches for days in the water begin: Cova de Alfarroba, where our surf school is located, ideal for catching your first waves and progressing daily, and right next to it, the legendary Supertubos, venue for an annual stage of the WSL World Surf League. At sunset, cozy restaurants, fresh fish, and the warm hospitality of Peniche await you in the narrow streets of the old town.
