Travel is a great way to connect with other like-minded solo travelers, and the Pelan Pelan Surf Retreat in Bali is a great place to do that. You may form friendships with some lifelong surf buddies! Their two rescue dogs, Angel and Tyson, are also great company; they are always cruising around Pelan Pelan looking for treats and scratches from guests!
The grassy riverside area is also open to you; it’s the perfect spot to chill out, read a book, meditate, or take in the natural vista and listen to the river rush by. You can also use the yoga shala outside of class times to practice yoga or stretch your tired muscles.
The riverside spa is also available for some serious relaxation, with treatments like Balinese massage, surfer’s massage, creme bath, manicure, pedicure and more on offer. You can also explore the surrounding areas by pushbike or scooter, Pelan Pelan is located in the middle of rice fields so you will want to take your camera.
Shared room (capacity: 3 people)
If you’re a solo traveler looking for a surf package in Bali, Pelan Pelan is the perfect spot for you! The shared room offers three high-quality single beds. A tropical style semi-outdoor bathroom features Bali style decor. At Pelan Pelan, we like to think we offer a touch more luxury than dorms at many other surf retreats, so you won’t be compromising on luxury during your stay. The solo traveler shared room is located just behind the swimming pool and common area, which makes it perfect for mingling with your new Bali buddies.
The surf retreat in Bali is family-run. Pelan Pelan hopes the staff will be your family away from home, and you will also have the opportunity to connect with other travelers. The common area is great for mingling over a delicious breakfast and a healthy Indonesian home-cooking-style lunch. You can also buy fresh juices, as well as beer and wine, from the kitchen.

The solo traveller's single rooms are located on the upper level of the retreat.
Super luxury single room
The super luxury rooms in the Solo Traveler Surf Package offers more spacious rooms. The room also features a terrace or balcony and tropical semi-open bathroom with outdoor shower. This is a great option for those who are looking for a bit of additional comfort during their stay!

Program
When you book with Pelan Pelan, you are giving yourself the opportunity to take your surfing to the next level with a week (or more) of perfect waves in paradise. The experienced coaches are by your side every step of the way, providing guidance in the water, and you will also take part in in-depth video coaching sessions once a week back at Pelan Pelan.
Explore the many nearby breaks via comfortable transfers in the air-conditioned vans. The coaches are very knowledgeable about the conditions, so you are sure to experience the best breaks to suit your level. Surfing on the island of the gods is very consistent, so you will be able to make the most of your time at your Surf Retreat Bali. There is a maximum of two people per surf coach, so you will get plenty of waves and lots of feedback!
Included in your Surf Retreat Bali
The Surf Package includes one surf session per day in the morning. If one session is not enough for you, you can add an extra surf session for an extra 180 EUR in the afternoon.
The surf retreat packages are available starting with a 7-night stay, although Pelan Pelan Bali recommends that you stay longer to get the best experience.

Please note that at Pelan Pelan Bali, they are all about taking it easy. You can schedule your week so you have plenty of time for rest and relaxation, or discover more of Bali. The Canggu area is full of awesome things to see and do: beachside bars and restaurants, cafes with healthy and wholesome foods, shopping experiences for all budgets, and lots of great spots for sundowners.
On Wednesday afternoons, you have the option to join a half day tour of nearby temples, including the famous Tanah Lot temple.
Typical day
- Wake up to the sounds of nature for breakfast and get pumped to catch some waves!
- Surf session (leaving between 6 and 11 a.m., depending on the tide and swell we decide the day before)
- Home-made Indonesian lunch
- Relax poolside or massage time!
- Join one of the meditation or yoga classes in the afternoon
- Dine out in one of the favorite restaurants or stay in and order delivery
- Early bedtime to catch more waves in the morning!
- If one surf session per day is not enough for you, add extra afternoon surf lessons to your package for 180 EUR (Monday – Friday)
Instructors
Putu
Putu started surfing at the age of 14 and feels most at home when the waves are clean and barreling. His favorite maneuvers are the top turn and cutback, and his deep understanding of the ocean allows him to find the right wave at the right spot for every surfer. With Putu’s guidance, guests feel safe, supported, and quickly notice real progress in their surfing.
Puspa
Puspa, a native of Bali, has immersed herself in the practice of yoga since 1992. Following the completion of her final training in India, she ventured into teaching across Thailand, Malaysia, and the Philippines. Now, she has returned to her homeland of Bali. Puspa partners with her husband, Sida, who is also a yoga instructor. Continuously evolving, Puspa recently completed her 100-Hour Yin Yoga Teacher Training in Ubud.
Sida
Sida stands out as a yoga instructor with a unique approach you won't encounter elsewhere. His passion for yoga is palpable, evident both in his classes and teaching style. With impressive flexibility and strength of his own, Sida motivates students to push beyond their limits, encouraging them to maximize their potential and refine their posture. Under his guidance, you'll notice tangible improvements in both flexibility and strength.

The area around the retreat (Canggu) is known for its excellent surf, beautiful nature, and peacefulness.
It is a nice getaway from the crowded areas of Kuta which are more hectic and include a lot of tourism and partying. It is the friendliness of the locals that make a lot of people want to come to Bali each year. You will find it important to involve the local traditions and lifestyle in your retreat. Doing so creates an environment in which you can learn from them and they can learn from you resulting in a lovely experience for everyone. Rice fields surround Pelan Pelan Bali. It is just ten minutes from bustling Canggu, 30 minutes from Seminyak, and one hour from Ubud.
Canggu
Canggu and the area around Canggu is one of the best surf locations in Bali. There are multiple secret surf spots with waves ideal for both beginners and advanced surfers. Canggu is not just famous for its waves but for the typical young surf lifestyle and its nightlife. You will find many cafes, bars, restaurants, and shops just ten minutes away from Pelan Pelan Bali. If you feel like a night out dancing on the beach, that is no problem either in Canggu, Bali. Pelan Pelan Bali is surrounded by rice fields, beautiful beaches, and Hindu temples.
