At Atlantis Surf Hostel, you will find an ambiance of old, thick walls of a former Finca: chill out in the large inner courtyard and enjoy an after surf afternoon on top of the roof terrace with a sea view. Get a chance to meet nice people!

The Soledad Big Waves is a restored Finca from the 1900 century. It is a listed building and has been artistically worked up with great attention to detail. A backdrop from a different era: colorful and in love with wood, modern and old combined. Dreamlike.

The Hostel has a huge lounge, which is a patio, where you will find a cozy sitting area as well as the kitchenette, where you have a stove with oven, toaster, kettle, coffee maker, and two refrigerators. Here you can supply yourself with fresh mangoes, papayas, and avocados for breakfast. At lunchtime, they will hand you a packed lunch and in the afternoon and evening, you can go to the restaurant right next to the hostel to feast.

At the hostel, they have separate men's and women's toilets and a bathroom with separate showers. Everything's spacious and with a lot of light and love.

Here you can rent, inquire and book everything to do with surfing. From beginner courses to advanced courses and mental surf coaching, they also offer yoga, Thai massages, and surf skating.

The hostel has a single room, a double room, and a large room with 10 beds with individual lockers.

In the area, they do not only have great waves for surfing: El Paso, El Bunker, La Derecha del Roque, El Picacho but also many other possibilities for activities: the sea swimming pool of San Lorenzo is less than 4 minutes' walk from Soledad Big Waves, there can you sunbathe and swim.

Program

Atlantis Surf Hostel takes individual teaching seriously. That’s why in their courses you won’t find more than five students in the water at the same time. You can count on individual feedback in order to maximize your learning success.

Surfing is a complex sport, which requires strength, endurance, and above all, coordination. In order to make progress quickly, you need personal supervision and control. Learning to surf with us means learning individually and methodologically.

During the surf lessons, you’ll be at the beach daily for 3 hours. Out of those 3 hours, two hours are intensive surf lessons with a lot of individual feedback. To prevent being out of energy right after the morning session, you’ll take a short lunch break at the beach. After that, you’ll have the chance to apply everything you’ve learned during the day on your own, but always under the surveillance of the team, of course.

What you get during the surf lessons:

  • Proper execution of a functional standup technique and maneuver
  • Instruction for intermediates and advanced rights in the water
  • The perfect board for your level with the possibility to try different shapes
  • The team will choose an adequate beach for your level (e.g. with adequate entries and suitable rides)
  • Video and photo analysis to allow for optical feedback upon request
  • Teaching surfing theory

About the teaching methods: Your surf coach chooses the board that best suits your level and allows for the best possible learning progression.

Location

The indigenous north coast of Gran Canaria, blessed with great, sandy beach breaks in summer, offers waves all year round. Enjoy the tranquility of Canarian life in the Endless Summer after a long surf session and feel its unique energy.

Mass tourism has not made it this far, which means that you can surf here all year round and feast in local restaurants with jacket potatoes with a salt crust in red mojo sauce. Green valleys invite you to climb and hike along small waterfalls up to Firgas, experience a surfing holiday differently, uniquely, because you dive into the quaint and authentic Gran Canaria.

There are two beautiful valleys with climbing rocks that invite you to meet Gran Canarias nature just 45 minutes away from the hostel. After walking for 2 hours, you will get to Cenobio Valerón, the biggest archaeological excavation of Gran Canaria.

A little bit hungry? Taste a unique delicacy: Queso de Flor from Santa Maria de Guia. You can go there by bus or car within 15 minutes. The ancient caves in Galdar are very interesting and tell stories about the guanches, the old natives.

Gran Canaria (the miniature continent)

Gran Canaria offers a vast amount of diverse landscapes, which are only waiting to be explored. Especially the north of the islands can surprise you with scenic views, jungle-like canyons, and spectacular ravines. The central highlands are dominated by conifers, particularly, the well-known canary pine, which has adapted itself perfectly to the volcano landscape.

The special feature of Gran Canaria is that all the different zones lie very close together. Therefore, you usually pass several climatic zones on every trip, which shine with entirely distinct vegetation.

If you’ve got a rental car, you’ve got the possibility to visit the more isolated places, like the west coast with its natural reserve Tamadaba and the steep cliffs with its adventurous winding road all the way to La Aldea de San Nicolás. Further inland, you’ll find idyllic towns every now and then, which invite for a break.

How to get there

Recommended Airports

Arrival by airplane

From the airport, you can take line 60 which is direct and stops at San Telmo and then at Santa Catalina station. Atlantis Surf Camp recommends you stop at Santa Catalina station and then walk to the nearest bus stop where bus line 17 stops.

You can check on Google Maps, there are a few in the area not so far from the station. Take bus line 17 to the Alfredo Kraus auditorium and from there, you are right next to the bus stop that has lines that travel to the North Coast, so you will only be about 15 minutes away from them. Bus lines 116, 117, 103, and 105 all stop in front of the surf camp, so you would need to get off at the "El Pagador" bus stop. From there, just walk for 2 minutes and you have arrived.
