Deluxe Extra King (private room for 1 or 2)

The best, most super-duper deluxe room at Xanadu. An extra-large bed, an outdoor bathtub, and spacious as heck. It’s a guest favorite (for obvious reasons) and comes with a bunch of complimentary perks: airport transfer, welcome fruit platter, complimentary bottle of wine, and 2 relaxing Balinese massages.

This program is ideal for Level 4 surfers.

Level 4: Mid-Length & Shortboards

  • For mid-length and shortboard riders who can paddle into waves on their own and hold position in the lineup
  • You are able to catch your own waves (without a push)
  • You’re chasing more challenging waves and working on more advanced maneuvers like cutbacks, snaps and floaters
  • Best suited if you want to push limits, refine your style and stay composed in tougher conditions (bigger / steeper waves, shallower reefs)

  • Can perform basic bottom turns and ride down the line

What You’ll Learn: Week Objectives

The Xanadu Surf Progression Program is designed to help intermediate to advanced surfers break through plateaus and gain deeper control over their performance in the water. Whether you’ve been surfing for years or recently made the jump to a smaller board, this week is about refining your foundation so you can progress with purpose and confidence.

Throughout the week, you’ll learn how to:

  • Diagnose what’s holding you back, from technical missteps to timing issues and positioning errors
  • Strengthen essential foundations like paddle positioning, takeoff timing, reading the wave, and body mechanics
  • Understand the concept of “surfing with the upper body” - most surfers at this level over-rely on their lower body; the surf camp will help you reconnect with how movement should originate from the top and flow downward
  • Translate theory into practice through land drills, repetition, and embodied learning
  • Prepare your body and mind for more advanced maneuvers, from cutbacks and snaps to tighter turns and more powerful surfing

You will also dive into surf theory during workshops like Forecasting & Wave Energy, where you’ll learn how to better choose waves, read the ocean, and position yourself with greater intention—skills that are essential for making those turns you’ve been chasing.

By the end of the week, you’ll walk away not just with improved technique, but with a new lens on how to approach your surfing, backed by a deeper understanding of what’s happening under your feet—and above your shoulders.

Why only Saturdays? Xanadu believes in building meaningful connections. Arriving on the same day as everyone else, you’ll only go through one round of introductions. After that, you can fully focus on your surf progression, having the best holiday experience and feeling at home.

Personalised approach & feedback

With a maximum of just 6 surfers per week, the Progression Week is intentionally kept small to ensure every guest receives the time, attention, and guidance they deserve.

Xanadu takes a hands-on, highly personalized approach to coaching—tailoring each session to your goals, challenges, and unique style. From in-water tips to detailed video analysis and targeted land drills, the coaches offer real-time feedback and focused support to help you break through plateaus and surf with more confidence, flow, and purpose.

This is not one-size-fits-all coaching. It’s surf progression made personal.

Please note: this does not mean there will only be 6 surfers at Xanadu Retreat that week. Other guests will be participating in the Surf, Yoga & Wellness Week, which is a separate program tailored to beginner and lower-intermediate levels, with their own coaches and surf session structure.

Surf Workshops for Advanced Surfers

At the advanced level, real progression goes beyond catching more waves, it’s about refining flow, mastering subtle mechanics, and building the mindset to surf with intention, awareness, and control. The surf workshops are designed to support that next layer of growth by helping you understand not just what to do, but why it works.

Through the Flow Mechanics workshop, you’ll break down body movement and upper-body engagement using land-based drills like surf skate, helping you feel the rotation and coordination needed for powerful, efficient turns. You also dive into surf safety principles specific to heavier conditions and more critical lineups - ensuring you know how to push your boundaries without compromising control.

Equally important is mindset. In the Surf Mindset session you explore how presence, awareness, and intention shape your sessions, especially when the stakes are higher. When you train your mindset and breath like your body, progression becomes sustainable and purposeful.

To anchor these concepts, you’ll also have two video analysis sessions, where coaches offer detailed, personalized feedback and help set clear goals. You’ll walk away not only with footage to review but also with a structured pathway for continued growth beyond Xanadu.

Why is Yoga Part of the Program?

Xanadu has intentionally integrated yoga into the program because surf progression isn’t just physical, it’s also mental. Yoga offers the perfect counterbalance to intensive surf training, helping you recover, reset, and stay connected to your body and breath.

Restorative yoga supports the physical demands of surfing by easing muscle tension, improving mobility, and increasing flexibility key components if you want to surf with more range, control, and fluidity. But the benefits go far beyond the physical.

Through breathwork, meditation, and mindful movement, yoga also strengthens your mental game. It teaches presence, emotional regulation, and how to stay calm under pressure, all essential when navigating more challenging waves and pushing your limits.

When you train your body and your mindset in harmony, your progression becomes not only faster, but deeper and more sustainable. That’s why yoga isn’t just an add-on here. It’s part of the process.

FAQs

Am I required to participate in all the activities?

Nope! Xanadu is pretty mellow when it comes to this, so feel free to join in or skip any activity on the program. The choice is always yours.

How long is a surf session?

A surf session takes around 3 to 3.5 hours on average. This includes a full 2 hours in the water plus transport to and from the waves.

Can I stay less than a week?

To ensure the highest quality of holiday experience, this program only accepts Saturday-Saturday stays. Xanadu has carefully created the weekly program for you to have the ultimate surf experience.

Is there an option to surf twice a day?

If you wish to surf more than once per day, Xanadu also offers a daily free surf option. Just let them know the day before or first thing in the morning. They’ll then arrange a driver to take you to the selected breaks free of charge. However, the afternoons are usually for theory sessions, so bear in mind an afternoon surf on your own may mean skipping the theory.

I'm travelling with Level 1-3 surfers. How does it work?

No problem at all! You’ll each join separate surf sessions and surf theory classes tailored to your individual level—so everyone gets the right coaching and progress.

At the same time, you’ll share the welcome dinner, daily yoga, and other community activities, so you can still enjoy the full Xanadu experience together.

If you’d like to stay in the same room, just drop Xanadu a message, their team will help set up your booking so you can share the space while joining the surf level that suits you best.

Do I need to bring my own board?

You’re welcome to use a board from Xanadu's quiver, but they recommend bringing the board you normally surf on and feel comfortable on whenever possible. This way, the coaches can give you personalized feedback that directly applies to your everyday surfing - helping you continue to progress long after the week at Xanadu ends.
