Great variety of yoga classes well balanced with restorative yoga in the evening. Great food in the restaurant with excellent service and outstanding value

Hard to relax by the pool with the flies at times- wonder if there’s a way of encouraging them elsewhere ?

    Sehr freundliches Personal.

Had the lovely Japan room right on the pool which was lovely and private for me.

Loved the vibe at Serenity, its tranquil yet friendly. Made some nice new friends quite easily.

Also it is located 5 minutes from a lovely quiet part of the beach ☺️

Nothing to do with Serenity, but Bali in general, some of the dogs on the street seem aggressive (though are usually harmless) and also there is minimal lighting on some streets, so take a torch if you need to walk somewhere.

Facilities were good, comfy beds and nice pool area, lots of classes available

High level of previous yoga skill required even for the beginner classes. Was asked to do shoulder stands very early on even though I had explained my lack of experience, definitely geared more towards experienced and confident yoga people

Serenity is clean, safe and friendly and dedicated to living harmoniously with nature. The massages are excellent and the beginner yoga classes were great.

It would be good to have more yoga options at the beginner level such as a beginner aerial class. It would be also good to have some more focussed classes such as on handstands.

I liked the whole concept of reusing everything. The breakfast was very very good! I loved the sheets where you could.just pick three items. There's something for everyone! Also, I am no vegan but the food was very delicious..The guesthouse also provides complimentary water, which I was really happy with using daily. I would definitely come back.

The only two things I didn't like were the toilets, they were quite smelly and I think it has to do with not flushing the toiletpaper. Also, staff would just barge in like that in our dorm.

Lovely and simple place, very good vibes, super nice staff, I decided to leave earlier to go to Ubud with a friend and they refunded me, without even asking. They do their best to make you happy and you feel embraced and taken care of. Amazing vegan food, clean and high quality yoga teachers. Would recommend for sure!

The variety of classes was brilliant. The teachers were very patient and helpful. I improved so much over the week. The aerial yoga was my favourite class. The staff went above and beyond to help throughout my stay. I was sick one days and they could not have been any kinder.

    Nothing to fault.

The yoga classes were really good, the big schedule and all the different yoga possibilities every day. The alkaline restaurant was also really practical to be right at the front.

The communication with some staff at the reception was difficult. Breakfast was not included as advertised.

The location is great and the yoga teachers are amazing. My room (single private) was very nice and comfortable.

It's quite expensive. Food from their restaurant is overpriced and the breakfast that's included is very small. There's an awful smell around the facilities that really disturbes the serene vibe.

It was just perfect to wake up in the morning and go directly to a yoga class. Excellent restaurants (The Shady Shack, Cafe Veda) are a 15-minute walk away. On hot days you can chill out by the pool and read a book and then take a sunset walk on the beach (5 minutes away). Beautiful facilities, calm location.

Food portions are too small for me, especially breakfast.

I liked the calm and nice area around the accommodation. It was a great location and the spirit around the accommodation was so nice and peaceful.

The staff in the reception. Firstly, they didn't speak so good English so it was hard to communicate with them. But they were friendly. But the problem was that they 4 (!!) times had trouble with finding me in their system that I had paid for my yoga classes. It felt like they wanted to just earn extra money. Because I had paid for 5 classes but they always said that they couldn't find me in the system. So I always had to show my receipt and argue with them before I finally could book my yoga class. The first time they said that I had to pay 110k, but I had booked 3 classes online for the price of 90k per class. And they said that I had to pay 110k per class because it was "high season" so I had to argue with them a lot about this. It was annoying. And every time I should go to my yoga class they always said "no you haven't paid". This really destroyed my experience.

The location close to the beach was nice. Most of the staff tried to be helpful but unable to resolve without better protocol in place.

There seemed to be a language barrier when I was addressing concerns. I had lost my room key and was leaving the next day. The manager had left communication for a driver to pick me up from the alternate location as being picked up by a shuttle for gilli islands the next morning. That I would be paid my key deposit minus the cost to replace the key. I found my key which somehow was lost in the lining of my backpack. The next day the driver from eco did not pick me up and so I had to walk to the main building so I would not miss my ride to the boat which I had prepaid with eco. Not safe walking this early in the morning. The shuttle driver was not impressed as we had to return for my luggage. I was paid my key deposit minus the cost for another key despite finding the key. Since the instruction and money left for me was only as designated. There was no opportunity to discuss the lost key found. The staff at eco was unable to speak to me further about it although he did try to contact management without success. Very frustrating. Also, there was a rooster that crowed all night long and sounded like it was directly outside of my window in my private room. Impossible to sleep at night.

Everyone in the staff was incredibly nice and accommodating.

The quality of the classes was really good, the unlimited pass lets you customise your time according to your own preferences and I loved to be able to try so many different yoga and meditation styles (taught by Balinese and Westeners). Options even included Yoga Philosophy and Life Coaching.

The eco concept is great. The restaurant was really good (mainly vegetarian/vegan/raw), the location right next to the beach was perfect and the busier center of Canggu is very close by if you want more variety.

I stayed in the second location (500m down the street) which I actually think is better since quieter (and apparently bigger and more recent rooms).

Finally I met some truly great people! I found much more during this week than I had expected...

Some of the staff did not speak very well English even though we always managed to understand each other.

I wan't looking for a luxury stay so I'm more than fine with the place but just keep in mind that it also welcomes a lot of young travellers who are not looking for a yoga only-quiet-finding yourself type of stay.

Most of the yoga classes where good although some teachers where horrible. The food at the restaurant was healthy and fresh. Great location! I liked that the accomodation was smoke and alcohol free which attracted lots of like minded people who where health conscious, therefore great vibe and plenty of interesting people to talk to. Great hangout joint

The cleanliness of the rooms was bellow average. I stayed in three different rooms first the shared dorms which was probably the best and cleanest. Than in another two locations with my own room. In both rooms the bedding was dirty, the first had blood on it almost looking like someone had squashed a mosquito full of blood on the sheets. The second had white stains on the dark blanket which almost looked like sex juice. Both rooms where meant to have hot water and AC. The first room the shower did not work and than once I got the water problem fixed it had no hot water. The second room the AC was broken. I will give it to the staff as soon as I brought up the issues they had maintenance down to fix the problem in the next few hours.

The staff where mostly nice although the owner appeared to be quiet rude! I was up in the commen area chatting on my phone and he come over and rudely told me to leave when he was talking to the staff and aggressively hand gestured me out. Some of the yoga teachers where lovely although a few where down right arrogant and rude. One class I was in felt like the teacher was a drill Sargent and another the teacher adgusted me into a pose I was not ready for hurting my back. Quiet dangerous! Likely no serious damage.

The yoga teachers! They were all so different but everyone had something special about them-they have obviously been chosen eith care.

The restaurant was a great addition -good value and lots 9f variety -as well as being super healthy and convenient.

The fact that it's in the lonely planet as a place to stay brought people in who were not really into the feel of the place or yoga! Some yoga attendees were a bit pretencious/serious - they need face-yoga to remember how to smile! The bathroons need a full deep clean with bleach - but that's not into the zen feel of the place i know!

Amazing selection of classes. Instructors were inspiring and excellent.

We were originally booked in to the Moon room. We asked to be given different accomodation as that room had a damp problem and stank. All the accomodation is quite basic, and this is as we expected, but my sister has athsma so we found this room to be unacceptable. After a little discussion this was arranged and everything else regarding stay was great.

Location, solitude, proposed agenda. Availability of staff and service. Accommodations were perfect, services for high and low maintenance guests.

Accessibility to transportation services was great. Loved the culture tour. Instructors were knowledgable. Proprietor was helpful and informative. The atmosphere was very laid back and enjoyable.

Would have liked some lounger chairs Pool side and maybe a table on the balconies for lounging as well. Maybe suggestive material for sightseeing for first timers to Bali. Over all not much I didn't fully enjoy. Didn't like that I had only booked 8 days.

It felt very inclusive, the staff were all very friendly, you did not have to be an expert at yoga.

There are lots of little fountains dotted around creating a constant background of trickling water sounds.

The food at the Alkaline cafe was healthy and delicious. Wish they sold a recipe book to take home to continue the goodness.

Like many other people's there was an issue with my booking. My invoice said 7 nights, which is what I asked for when I booked but the only had me booked in my room for 6. The Serenity Eco-Guesthouse is a very nice low key backpacker guest house, with very good yoga classes.

There is also a nice pool area and a ok restaurant. I was living in a doorm, with air-con during the night, nice.

You also have you own safebox, but too small for my iPad.

The staff is very service minded, but if you want to do something outside the campus, find it by yourself on the internet.

You can get cheap transportation by Uber even on a scooter. (You will need wifi).

Be sure you get a room with aircon and fan is not enough.

Remark this place is almost for very young people.

This is a place where you have to be an ecologic person. everything is so correct - and sometimes it is too much. The yoga classes you have to sign in half time before the class - this is not good, we want to sign in the morning and it is not possible. The staff are nice, but not listening to our wishes. It is ordinary rooms ad you can see a lot of people has én there - it needs renovation.

I absolutely loved my stay at Serenity. I was coming on my own with the sole purpose of reconnecting with myself, and it happened. After day 3 I was completely relaxed (very sore after about 8 classes of yoga, but relaxed!). I found my single room to be of rudimentary comfort - which is what I was expecting and I did not mind. The shared bathrooms may benefit from a little upgrade though. This is particularly true as I got to see what the twin/double rooms were like, and these rooms I feel are a high step above the single rooms (for the same price per person I think), including bathrooms, air-con, hanging space to dry clothes, outdoor area/seating etc.

One downside: the rental of a towel for yoga classes for people coming especially on a yoga retreat (this is what I did) - there are only so many towels you can pack in your suitcase, so I think for people who made the trip for yoga, you could provide complimentary extra towel. I also found the restaurant to be slightly expensive. I know the quality of the food was very high, but the price of some basic items was I think a bit stretched (say the soups, curries or juices). Apart from that, very beautiful environment, and I can't wait to come back. Great breakfast too. I will rate you 9/10, as there is always room for improvement.

The place was simply amazing! I stayed at the backpackers room which was so nice and cozy. Slept with the fan on and it was not hot at all, no mosquitoes. Also the bathrooms are very clean. Serenity also provides a variety amount of activities, from yoga classes to horse back riding sessions. The 5 minute walk to the beach was also very convenient. And as a healthy food lover myself, the Alkaline restaurant downstairs has been one of the highlights of the trip. I am definitely coming back! Very satisfied.

I loved my Yoga Retreat in Bali. The accommodation was modest but comfortable - I slept in a 5-bed dormitory and it was okay - clean, with clean bed linen, towel, mosquito-net, safety box, very nice and helpful staff and generally everything I needed to feel good. The Alkaline Restaurant at Serenity Eco Guesthouse provided a lot of options for vegans - also gluten-free and raw and delicious ;-). I liked the yoga classes, especially Mysore with Fernando and Vinyasa classes with Kartana, Sida and Kim. I attended to 3-4 yoga classes daily and loved it. As a Christmas gift I treat myself with massages at the spa, and they also were very professional - especially the Thai massage, so definitely 10. and I definitely will come back next year. I am not a surfer, but for those who are - the ocean with a lot of surfing options is about 250 m away from house.

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at serenity Eco-guesthouse and yoga. I created my own yoga retreat by staying at the guesthouse and purchasing the unlimited yoga pass. The yoga classes I participated in were amazing; the instructors are knowledgeable and I saw many improvements in my yoga both mental and physically.

The location is great as it's close to the beach but also but away from the bars. It's also within walking distance or a short motor bike ride to many restaurants.

Overall I had a great stay and would recommend the accommodation and yoga to anyone travelling Bali.

  • Lesley Canada

I really enjoyed my stay at Serenity. The rooms were nicely set up and the staff were friendly and helpful. I love the variety of yoga classes they have, but I would like there to be a little bit more time between some of the classes as there were some too close together to get to on time. All the instructors were great. One more note is that it could be kept a bit cleaner - we had some trouble with ants in the room and in one of the yoga rooms, it wasn't cleaned properly on one side resulting in lots of ants climbing over me while I lay on my mat. I would definitely stay here again though, great value and the restaurant has awesome food.

    Organizer's Response:

    Greetings Lesley,

Thank you for taking time to review us! We are very grateful that you enjoyed our place, yoga classes and food. We appreciate your feedback to have more time in between classes, we shall discuss this with our yoga team to perhaps have longer than 15 minutes intermission in the near future. We have informed our housekeeping to keep up our cleanliness standard, for both rooms and studios. Although, in tropical country's, ants are very natural and move fast, they can smell food from miles away! Which is why we ask our guests not to bring food into the room.

Once again, thank you so much for your feedback. Hope to see you soon!

    With serenity

Staying at Serenity Eco Guesthouse was the best choice! I loved it for: its huge choice of yoga lessons; its friendly, helpful and always available staff; the relax atmosphere that makes you feel immediately on holidays; the open-minded and interesting people from all over the world that you meet there; the excellent food at Alkaline restaurant, including some raw juices and superfood.

I stayed in a single room with shared bathroom, room was simple but very cozy and with a comfortable bed (which is much appreciated after practicing yoga), bathroom area was clean and somehow never too busy.

Location is also very good, Cenggu bars and shops are at around 10min walk only, beach is barely at 1 minute walk, the only little down point for me as non-surfer is that this beach is not suitable to swim, too big waves.

Globally I would definitely rate Serenity 10 out of 10 !

My experience at serenity was super! I stayed there for a month. I stayed in the yin dorm, which in my opinion is a lot better than the yang dorm. There were mosquito nets and the beds get made every day. The towels and sheets are changed every 3 days. The bathroom could be a bit better, it was kind of old, and became dirty quite fast having to share it with 6 people. There were lots of old shampoo bottles that were not thrown out in the month I was there. Maybe something to improve. The water was cold, but that wasn't a big deal to me.

The atmosphere is really relaxed, and the place attracts very nice and like-minded people. The staff at Serenity is always helpful and smiling. I really liked that they new everyone by name very fast, which made me feel at home.

The restaurant has healthy food and for me as a vegan that was great. I do think the quality vs price was not completely accurate. Around canggu there are a lot of places to find amazing food that offer a better quality vs price. But it's great to have a restaurant in the guesthouse for when you don't feel like going out.

The yoga classes are quite diverse. Which is good for beginners and advanced yogis. I practiced yoga for about 10 years and could find a few favorite classes: Ashtanga, power yoga and Vinyasa.

I rented a bike the first week at serenity. I wouldn't recommend it. All the bicycles where old andhad just one functioning break. I don't think they could actually ask money for those. Same for some of the scooters. You have better options for both around canggu for the same price.

To end; I would definitely come back to serenity. The place is super to stay at and I really felt at home. The price vs quality to stay there is very reasonable.

The 4 days stay in Serenity Eco-Guesthouse and Yoga was new great experience in Bali. The guesthouse is much bigger and more eco friendly than I expected, there are all many kinds of rooms and each room has its own unique name. The room is clean and and well-managed by its stuff who really provide good service for us. This biggest attraction in this eco guesthouse for me is the intensive yet great yoga lessons, teachers are great, yoga classroom are nice with lots of breeze coming through windows, but the biggest problem is there are too many mosquitos which totally disturb my meditation and yoga lessons. I really hope that you can do something to decrease the annoying mosquitos otherwise your guesthouse may lose its so much charm. Anyway, as to the solo female traveller, it is always great to live in the guesthouse not only it is more economically but also it will help you make new friends. So in Serenity I made new friends and learnt their stories and got some inspiration from them, it was lovely. And I will come back again. Thanks.

I booked the 30 day stay with unlimited session yoga package at Serenity and I'm so that glad I did! I thought that I'd get bored by the end of my stay but in fact I didn't want to leave! The staff were friendly and helpful, everywhere was clean and beautifully decorated with statues, flowers and incense and there was such a variety of yoga sessions available that I was always entertained. Breakfast was included and there were plenty of options, the alkaline restaurant attached to Serenity was full of healthy and tasty food, plus there were plenty of other local restaurants to try. The beach was just down the road or there was a pool on site to relax by. I have no complaints at all, I would highly recommend this as a destination either if you're just passing through or for more of a retreat and I very much hope to be back someday soon!

My stay at serenity Eco guesthouse was amazing. I was so pleased with my experience. The guesthouse has a beautiful serene vibe. The staff and owners are friendly, welcoming and happy. The yoga classes were wonderful, all instructors were great and I feel like all the classes were suitable for a newer yogi to try but still offered enough challenge for those who are more advanced. The restaurant attached serves amazing delicious healthy options for a low price. Only a few steps from gorgeous Pantai Batu Bolong beach! They also rent out motorbikes for you to take and explore the island. My only complaint is I feel they could upgrade a few of the bikes that are starting to wear down. We rented a bike that had a finicky headlight that decided to turn off on us during a ride in the night, pretty scary. After switching out the bikes three times with each bike having a random issue, we decided to return the bike and rent one from a local guy down the street. It's important to be riding a well maintained bike!

Overall I LOVED my stay at serenity and I will definitely be coming back.

We stayed at Serenity Eco Yoga house for 7 days, we travelled around Bali and actually came back for some more zen atmosphere. We really enjoyed our stay, the staff was very nice, the food was superb-very healthy and delicious. The retreat offers a variety of yoga classes, with a tranquil swimming pool and amazing massages at affordable rates. The beach is just 5 minutes walking distance. Highly recommended, to visit alone or with a friend!

Very tranquil setting. Yoga classes were good although I only did the beginner ones so can't comment on the other classes. Plenty of choice for the more experienced yogi. Got a lot of bites all over the my feet and legs, over 30!! Not sure if it was due to small holes in the mosquito nets or bed bugs but it disturbed my sleep a lot. Close to the beach but not much else around the area. Food was nice

Was just amazing, if i can choose one place to come back again will be there, just perfect.

Healthy food, yoga all day, good vibes, all ecologic, people so warm and nice, i think i just don't have enough words to describe how amazing was, exactly what i was looking for.

The only problem is that they don't have smoking places, that means people can smoke all around, i spent time by the swimming pool and i can only smell cigarette smoke, there is only one corner for non smokers, but must to be the opposite, i stayed in nirvana room where they have a non smoking sign and my neighbour smoked exactly under the sign, and when i told to the staff they told me: people can't smoke there but yes in the swimming pool, that means 2 steps far; in an amazing heaven like that where people goes to purifies their souls, lungs, mind, etcetera. the only thing i can smell around was cigarette. was really annoying beside that everything just perfect.

My main purpose for choosing Serenity was because of the two yoga studios and their large list and variety of classes. Close to the beach and easy access to near by restaurants and cafes. I figured it couldn't get much better than that. Being well acquainted with Eco-resorts, I thought this would be a breeze and it had enough good reviews to give it a shot. My advice is to avoid Serenity at all cost.

I did book in advance and you must pay in full upon arrival. For the United States, the prices seemed reasonable, spending 450 USD for housing and 150 USD for unlimited yoga pass. However, after venturing around Canggu and seeing the rooms for rent, you can find way better value for your money and a much cleaner and inexpensive place to stay.

If you are an experienced yogi, the yoga here will likely be too beginner and boring. It revolves around the basics and doesn't offer deeper variations. This was the biggest let down in my experience because I was looking to advance in my alignment and arm balances, but wasn't given room to do so with the teacher being able to guide me correctly. It's also important to mention that the classes are the same every time you go, there is no variety, it's word for word identical every single time. I will say that Nikki is by far the best teacher. She teaches surf fit flow and detox retox regularly.

Although they boast themselves in saying family owned and friendly, it's quite the opposite. From the owners to the staff, they are not friendly or helpful. They hardly ever have answers and look at you like you're stupid if you have questions about their services or local areas. The food from their menu they say, doesn't exist and don't know what you're talking about. No one is on the same page which makes it difficult for guests to get straight answers. I will say that Wes, the manager, was helpful after my rain incident and apologized profusely.

If you are outdoorsy and like sleeping alongside critters, this is the place for you. I had ants everywhere and encountered three massive spiders during my one week stay (because I switched to a new place). They happened to be doing construction over my building which I was not notified prior to or upon arrival. It made it impossible to be in my room between 08:00 and 18:00 every single day because it was so loud and I'm almost certain the construction workers could see in through the roof.

You might be thinking, okay aren't you being a little bit picky? Normally I would say yes, but then this happened. I had a major issue which led me to find a new place to stay. I was woken in the middle of the night by raindrops near my head. Reluctantly, I turn my light on to find that the entire other half of the bed from me is soaked, the floor is soaked in the room and bathroom and there is water leaking from the ceiling in many areas. I ran to the front to attempt to get some type of assistance from reception. The security guard kindly came with me and attempted to put water reservoirs out but there was too many holes in the ceiling. I asked if there was somewhere else I could sleep tonight and he told me everything was full and I didn't have any options. Finally, after I asked a few times for the owners (as they live on the premise) to come see how destroyed my room is and help me find a solution, the security guard got them. Daniel and his wife along with the security guard walk in and the first thing he says to me is that I am disrupting his and his wife's sleep. I was astonished. As the rain was pounding down, he had the nerve to tell me that? I asked him if there was another room I could stay in and he looks at the bed and says, well that side of the bed is dry, can't you sleep there? Again, astonished. My response was absolutely not and after enough complaining on my part, they found me a room to stay in for the night. (I do find that funny since they did say they were full initially). They also informed me that the construction workers did not put the tarp down, accidentally because they didn't think it would rain. I was really upset how nonchalant they were and how little apologetic or concerned they were about this traumatic water downfall in my room. I was able to get a refund for the remainder of my stay which was surprising.

I found this retreat offer online, and it's the best experience I ever did! I only have done yoga a couple of times before, so this was still semi new to me. The vibe of the ambient was so peaceful and calm. Exactly what I was looking for. The staff were the best I have experienced in all my travels. The room was basic it was perfect for what you need when your there in serenity. The garden was absolutely beautiful and I felt such a positive energy all in the air! I also had a foot reflexology treatment and shiatsu massage with a lovely young girl named Dia and she was that amazing I booked her again the day I left. I thoroughly enjoyed every part of my retreat and only wished there was more rooms available as I would of stayed longer. I will definitely be back but with my partner and friends next time. Highly recommend this guesthouse and experience to everyone wanting a relaxing and peaceful mini getaway!

When I entered the meditation space a number of times and noticed Daniel the owner sitting, I knew Serenity was a place for special communion. A space created through generosity and love that allows anyone who stays, or attends one of the multifarious yoga classes running seven days a week or dines at the amazing cafe is likely to feel connected. I came for recharge. It has delivered. Thank you, Serenity.

Amazing spot where you will meet many nice people thanks to the huge common areas, while being able to be by yourself, thanks to the (private) rooms. The plethora of Yoga classes every day makes it easy to try out new things while doing other activities (surfing, going away with a motorbike, visit the temples and beaches). The staff is amazing and will make you smile everyday! The food is very good as well.I was able to spend an amazing yoga retreat while doing many other things.

One negative point for me, would be the price of the rooms. The quality/value is lower than in other places. You pay for the amenities (being next to your yoga class, having everything you need such as food, pool, people near to you) and spot. But I got rooms for the same price with an increased comfort during my trip. Next time, I might explore the possibility to live nearby and come during the day.

When we first arrived at Serenity, we got a very pleasant welcome. The staff gave us good information about our stay and helped us to book different activities. The area is cozy and clean, we really liked the eco-friendly set-up like divided bins for recycling and a chemical-free pool. Their restaurant was a nice place as well, we recommend the raw veggie pie and the peanut butter / chocolate homemade ice cream. About the yoga, we felt that teachers were looking after you in a very good way. It didn't really matter which level you practiced yoga on before, everyone got their own challenges. Over all, we had a lovely stay and would definitely recommend anyone who wants to escape for some quality time!

It was when I realized how much calmer I was that I understood the secret of Serenity. I arrived frazzled, brain on overdrive, eyeballs itchy from lack of sleep and within two days I had found the best place to read (the hammock next to the pool), my favorite food - (the raw food rice paper wraps) and how to breathe properly! It was like coming home. The staff crew are great people who always have time to share the day with you and are proud of their employer's Eco philosophy.

The instructors are knowledgeable and kind. Hire a motorbike, take a surf lesson or just be still. I am coming back and I am bringing my daughter.

I had a very nice time in Serenity Eco Guesthouse and some very peaceful and mind opening yoga classes! Usually, I wanted to stay three nights in a single room but had to go in a dorm which was actually the better option, because I made some new travel mates and had a very nice time. Serenity Eco-Guesthouse is well maintained and well organized. I am usually up pretty early and I would find them sweeping and cleaning the whole place already. All the staff and management were very accommodating to our needs. When we arrived, we paid for our rooms and yoga lessons with cash and when we found out that all the AMT machines were down, the staff were nice enough to reverse it and let us pay by credit card. In my opinion, that was beyond the call of duty. Our room, the Yang, was very clean and everything was working properly. The only thing we found lacking was hooks in the bathroom. But Kishna, the owner's son immediately have it fixed when my wife told him about this. The Alkaline, which is their restaurant, serves good food. Breakfast was complimentary and they have enough selection so that you are not bored by the third or fourth day. I especially like their banana pancakes and fried rice. We ate there for almost every meal. The best meals are the sandwiches and the tuna salad. The noodle dish was a bit too salty for me. Did not try the wraps, maybe next time. We tried all their special blended juices and they were all very good. For dessert, I will kill for their banana cake and sorbet. I make my own banana cakes, but this way better than mine. So, get it if you are ever there. My only complaint is the lack of decaffeinated tea or coffee. The yoga classes were taught by professionals. We got a bit of a discount when we paid for all our lessons up front. Our last lesson, Ashtanga yoga with Fernando, really inspires us to a greater height. Thank you, Fernando. We also had the privilege of attending a special event on that weekend; a fundraising event to benefit a non-profit organization. We participated by signing up for massages by blind masseurs and also a buffet dinner. Part of the proceeds goes to that non-profit. There was also a performance by Balinese dancers on wheel chairs and a live band. This event was not only attended by the owner's friends but also by the staffs and their families. It was truly a family event. Thanks to Daniel and Yatna for such a good time.I would recommend this place to my friends and relatives.

As a precursor to my review, I have already related all of these points (and a few more) to the assistant manager, Lala. I was very frustrated at that particular moment, yet she was amazingly warm and open to everything I had to say. By the time I had spilled all my criticisms, I was starting to feel bad about being so negative. She assured me that this was all very useful information and will really help them improve the studio. That no one ever says anything bad so how would they know to change anything? So, for accountability purposes, my thoughts on where there is room for improvement. I found Serenity through http://www.bookyogaretreats.com/. Prior to booking, I sent an email asking if there were classes for advanced students. I was assured that most of the classes are for all levels, and that there are Ashtanga and Vinyasa classes (as is clear on the website). So I booked a few days with the impression that this is a retreat space while in reality it is a guesthouse with a yoga studio. It's misleading for this place to be listed on a retreat website. I left Ubud (a yoga playground) for a retreat at Serenity. In retrospect, I should have stayed in Ubud. The classes themselves I found to be quite underwhelming. I attended five different classes with five different instructors; Dynamic Flow, Ashtanga, yoga for surfing, Vinyasa Flow, and a class that was on the schedule as restorative but turned out to be a strong, Ashtanga-based class. The best instructor is the one that has only been teaching a month, Yelena of yoga for surfing. While she is clearly still very nervous about teaching, her class was strong and stretchy (what you'd expect for athletes).I would have enjoyed the Ashtanga class if the instructor hadn't counted every breath through the entire 90 minutes. I liked his attitude about yoga, but the counting thing is annoying and unnecessary. A different instructor did the same thing (and called poses by the wrong Sanskrit names). Because of this, these classes were definitely a mental challenge more so than physical. So I guess they did still teach me something by pushing my buttons. In the remaining two classes, both instructors had bad form and looked like they were going to injure themselves (later I found out they are actually married so I suppose it makes sense). There was a student in one class who had never practiced yoga before. The instructor gave no cues for alignment during the entire class. I felt bad as this poor guy had no idea what was going on and it totally wasn't his fault. The same instructor pulled on my feet while in scorpion forearm stand and mildly injured my lower back.I realize that I'm not going to resonate with every teacher and that I shouldn't have expectations, but remember I was coming into this under the impression that it's a yoga retreat. And regardless of my expectations, teachers should not be making dangerous adjustments that might lead to injuries. Overall, the classes are not challenging or creative enough for advanced yogis, but if you are advanced and decide to do your own thing then beware. While speaking with Lala, I took a guess that the person hiring the instructors doesn't practice yoga themselves. I guessed correctly. Apparently, the owners are into yoga, but they don't really have a hand in running the place. There is no indication on the printed schedule or website of who is teaching what. I asked at reception about different classes and instructors. The staff answered my questions, but post-class, I realized they had no idea what they were talking about. They don't really know what is going on in the studio. It makes perfect sense as they are the staff for the guesthouse. They don't practice yoga. Please, for the love of Buddha, hire a yoga studio manager! Someone who is an experienced teacher can speak about what is going on back there and hire good instructors. Also, please update the website to reflect which instructors teach which classes and include their bios and backgrounds. This is standard practice for a yoga studio (remember this is a studio, not a retreat). A major suggestion! Please have open studio for self-practice. As of the current schedule, there are no classes between 11:30 and 15:30. Classes finish for the day at 19:45. Because of the aforementioned gripes, I went into the studio after hours to do my own practice. This interaction was the proverbial straw that broke my back. Within 10 minutes, someone from reception interrupted me to tell me that I couldn't be in there without renting the space because of the lights. Ok, fair. You're an eco-resort and you want to keep your electric bill down. Fast forward to the next afternoon. I went to use the studio during the day, and five minutes in someone from reception was telling me I needed to pay for the space. This is what finally prompted me to speak to a manager. The website indicates that the space is available to rent for events and workshops but nowhere on the website, in the guesthouse, or in the studio is there an indication that you must pay to use the studio for yourself when classes are not being held. When you're trying to get your yoga on and someone interrupts you to ask for money, it seems greedy and underhanded. There is nowhere else on the grounds where there is space to do your own practice, not even my room (some of the larger rooms I imagine would work, but definitely not the smaller ones). So let's finish with a positive note! My unused classes were refunded and I am now able to use the studio space when it's free. (Though I think everyone should be able to use it as open studio time, as noted above. I don't really want special treatment just because I complained). The students and instructors are not pretentious (though if you've read up to this point, you might very well think I am). Beginner yogis love it there. The classes are good foundational classes, though I think the instructors should adjust to align, not push deeper. There should also be more words used to help with alignment. Showing what a pose looks like is not enough. The space itself is a nice place to practice yoga and then have a jump in the pool.

Lying in a hammock in the shade on one of my first days at Serenity, I found the owner Daniel was standing by me. He looked around at what he and his family and staff had created out of nothing - the trees and flowers, the pool, the wonderful muddle of yoga shalas and bedrooms - and he grinned and said: "I wish that wherever I travel, there would be somewhere like this to stay." He has a point.

I stayed for 30 days and left believing that this is a special place. It sits just a couple of hundred meters from the long beach with its rolling surf. It has a really good restaurant, mostly vegetarian. The food and the rooms are amazingly inexpensive. It offers a choice of yoga classes all day long - ashtanga, hatha, yin, vinyasa - all of it available for beginners as well as for those who are more experienced. But most of all, it is run by lovely people, who have taken their lead from Daniel and his wife, Yatna, who are both unusually aware of spiritual values.

Yatna spends hours each morning gathering wind-blown flowers and distributing them as blessings in beautiful little packages around the building. In Jurip, it has a master of massage of extraordinary talent. In Lala and Amanda, two endlessly patient managers who take the time to stop and talk and be interested in their guests. It may sound like an exaggeration, but I have never stayed anywhere where the staff were so consistently friendly and kind. There are not many places left where life counts for more than money. Like Daniel, I wish there were places like this wherever I travel.

My husband and I loved Serenity Eco Lodge. We are at the end of a three month trip and wanted our last days to be relaxing, comfortable and sprinkled with yoga and good vegetarian and Indonesian food. Serenity was perfect for us. It is well located near the beach and plenty of great restaurants. I do yoga but my husband does not and he had a great time taking walks to the beach and enjoying the lovely pool. I took several different yoga classes and each was very special and enlightening for me. I love to take away ideas for my own practice, although I doubt I will set up for "flying high" yoga in my home. I do recommended trying that class. Breakfasts were excellent, especially the pancakes with banana and pineapple, although the porridge with raisins and raw cashews and the red rice, banana and coconut milk were also yummy. Dinner was not our favorite because it catered too much to gluten free and we would have liked more options. The people who work the desk and throughout the place were all wonderful. Our room was very comfortable and quiet with air conditioning at exactly the right temperature. Canggu is a bit overrun with motorbikes and can get very hot during the day. You may see a waterbug on your patio and the water may not always be hot. Who cares? I always wonder why reviewers write negative comments, forgetting they are in the tropics. Do yourselves a favor and visit serenity now!

Thank you very much Serenity for making my holidays as relaxing as it could have been! The place has a nice and peaceful atmosphere throughout the retreat. I especially enjoyed the pool area where I could relax in between yoga classes or just spent a couple of hours reading, eventhough there was a bit of construction going on, but I guess that wasn't really avoidable, it din't bother me anyway. I was staying in the Tarzan room with my friend. This room is very simple, with two single beds, a toilet, and a shower. Nothing special but nice and clean. We surely enjoyed our stay there. We were leaving Canggu for a week and came back. Unfortunately, the retreat was booked out by the time we came back, however, the friendly staff was able to book us a room at their partner Hostel Purnama just 30 meters up the road. Serenity is the most affordable yoga retreat, as far as I know, in Canggu. Of course, if you are after luxury, this is not the right address for you. The food was very nice, the menu offers a mixture of traditional Indonesian food as well as Western style dishes. I must admit though, that some portions of the dishes aren't very big.

I aimed Mysore classes early in the morning with Fernando, who is an outstanding teacher. I had heard of him and the place as reputable for practice and I wasn't disappointed. I loved his coaching, he spent time with everyone of us individually through practice adapting to our different personal levels. A real treat. Great teachers teach and inspire, Fernando belongs to that rare category.

The yoga room is spacious and peaceful. Excellent stuff really. The choices for Yoga classes are great. There is a great leaflet describing all classes, all levels, all styles. Staff was lovely, I went in a few days before to ask questions, really welcoming.I ate three times in the restaurant, the food is outstanding. Really delicious. Vegan, veggie, gluten free, all fresh and mostly locally sourced.

I also appreciated little notice boards everywhere explaining premaculture, recycling, how to compost. Great touch. I didn't stay, so it wouldn't be appropriate to offer my views on it's accommodation but I do know several options are available, form dorms to private rooms. The place overall has a lovely bohemian feel to it. Slightly chaotic and organised at the same time and that's an advantage and an asset. A unique little place with the right intentions at heart. Go without hesitation. Highly recommended.

What I didn't like about this place are the people. Everyone is feeling like a yoga guru and lots of people made me feel as if I'm not part of that. So communication was not really nice. The staff was sometimes not really helpful and they can only call cabs with fixed prices.

I stayed for three weeks at Serenity and my experience was lovely. First of all, Canggu is a very cool neighborhood (mix of surfers, yogis and vegans), and Serenity is almost on the beach.I found the entire staff super friendly. Even the workers/gardeners tried to teach me a few Indonesian words!I took my first ever yoga class there (beginners course), and it was really good. If you take the three beginners classes in one week, you will see yourself improving super quickly.Serenity also has a partnership with a surf school. I had surfed before so I asked for an intermediate course. Both the Serenity staff, and the surf instructor responded to my need brilliantly. The surf lesson was going super well but I injured my foot during that session. Again, the instructor and the Serenity staff reacted very well. The helped me recover, gave me useful medicine and even provided the big band aid.The pool is very cool (you can see that from the pictures). The food is great and super healthy (specially the deserts). At breakfast you can ask for brown sugar (the healthy one) to put in your tea/coffee! Overall, my stay was fantastic. My partner and I have wanted to start yoga for a long time. So when we got to Canggu we looked at all the different schools to see which one we wanted to do 20 lessons with. After completing our classes, we are really happy to have chosen Serenity. Every yoga class was an experience. We learnt so much and felt like in every practice we had improved! Our favorite teacher was Micky, who teaches Vinyasa Krama. Every instructor is professional and has their own style. They were all really welcoming and no matter what your skill level was with yoga, you would be pushed to the right level.Tom, my partner, has a long-term knee injury. During his fifth session, he pushed it too far and his knee popped out! The last time this happened when he was surfing he was unable to walk for two days after. However, after this happened he was fine the next day. He felt no pain and was amazed with how his knee felt. This was after two sessions of yoga for beginners, one Yin yoga and one yoga for surfers.Overall we loved Serenity. The facilities and staff were amazing, we would highly recommend them!

Friendly staff, very nice atmosphere, good restaurant, clean rooms and facilities. Close to the ocean, bars, restaurants (and excellent surf spots). You can hardly expect more for such a correct price. On a more personal notice, I will always be thankful for discovering yoga. Special mention to Fernando and Krishna!

I lived there for a month as I did my yoga teacher training. I found the staff extremely welcoming and helpful. The food in the restaurant was great and although gluten and dairy free, I still had a selection. The grounds are tidy and beautiful and there are the occasional insects or frogs. I loved the eco-friendly aspect and I consider this place my home away from home and these beautiful people my Balinese family. I can't wait to return!

For beach going, yoga, and massages, this place was seriously ideal. The yoga classes were some of the best I took in all of Bali and are right on-site, the vegetarian food at the cafe is delicious and affordable, and the complex is a stone's throw from the beach (though you can't see it, it's a short walk down a paved road). The rooms are excellent quality for the price, and our air conditioned unit in sun (our room name) worked well. The pool is beautiful, and there are a couple of surf shops nearby on the beach that do lessons. There's also a great bar/restaurant called Old Man's like a 10 minute walk down the beach that is very hip and periodically has live music. The massages on-site are also incredibly inexpensive. The only possibly negative thing I have to say about this place is that it is, in general, very isolated from a 'downtown' feeling sort of area - very little is walkable from it. We were fine with that because we were mostly doing day tours where our driver was picking us up from the hotel anyway, or specifically wanted a chill environment with fewer people than other parts of Bali, but I would have been disappointed if I had just stayed in Canggu and not paired it with a more walkable Balinese city like Ubud. However, if you're a yogi looking to spend like two weeks in Bali, doing one week here and one week at somewhere like Sania's Bungalows in Ubud is pretty much the perfect combination - you get a mix of beach and jungle, and it's very inexpensive. I'll definitely be staying here again in the future!

This place has it all. An amazing healthy mostly vegetarian and vegan restaurant, an incredible yoga studio with five classes on offer per day and a lot of room options that range from dorm, single or couples. Also has a great pool, 100 meters from the beach, a common room with movies and games and a really chilled vibe. Plus it's very cheap.

If you want to experience Bali without the chaos of Seminyak or Kuta, go to Canggu, especially to Serenity Eco Guesthouse! Even for a backpacker, the accommodation is great. It is truly a wonderful place to start, take a break, or end your travel. You will find peace at serenity, the staff is wonderful, and the breakfast is excellent!

I originally booked five nights at Serenity and then ended up staying for two weeks! It is a lovely place that feels like home as soon as you arrive. I stayed in the backpacker rooms and the bathrooms upstairs were in need of some upgrades but otherwise they are fine. I took about 20 classes over my stay and all teachers are great in their own unique styles. I particularly enjoyed the Balinese teachers as it is great to be taught by locals. The food is amazing, there was nothing on the menu that I didn't like and was always well presented and delicious. The pool area is great and the gardens are lovely and well maintained.

I stayed at Serenity Eco-Guesthouse for my yoga instructor course with Santosha and had such a great stay. The rooms are clean rooms and the facilities and restaurant are amazing. Unfortunately, I got really sick towards the end of my stay but the staff were remarkable in helping me to recover my health. I'm forever grateful for their selfless caring to me, their genuine enthusiasm, and their love that shines through their beautiful guesthouse. I highly recommend this villa as a place of restful sanctuary. Many thanks again for such a wonderful experience.
