The waves

Las FLores

The surfing in Las Flores includes point breaks and beach breaks. The point breaks in this region are volcanic formations with a sandy bottom. This has been a more remote location than La Libertad, and there are some waves not very frequented yet.

With a volcanic rocky point and sandy bottom, this wave breaks as a machine, very consistent and with a smooth take off on the high tides, but hollow on low tides. This wave can be ridden for up to 200 yards. Las Flores is known as one of the most rippable right-hand waves in Central America and can hold up to triple overhead waves.

Punta Mango

This is a powerful right cobblestone point break with 200-yard rides when on. The wave offers a fast take off with a hollow barrel inside section. It starts working on a 3ft+ swell and all tides, but 4 - 7 ft SW is best. On big days, be prepared and bring your step-up.

The seasons

March to May

This is the most consistent time of the year, with clean waves (6 - 12 ft). During this period, there are many days with good surfing all day long. It is the end of the dry season, and the water temperature is around 82 degrees Fahrenheit.

June to October

This is the time when El Salvador’s coastline gets the largest swells of the year, from 6 - 12 ft, originating from the South Pacific’s swells. The water temperature is around 82 degrees Fahrenheit.

November to December

This is right after the rainy season, and waves get a little smaller, usually swells with 4 - 6 ft waves but very clean and perfectly peeling over the point break. The water and temperature drop a few degrees (78 degrees Fahrenheit), but still, a wetsuit is not needed. Offshore winds allow perfect surfing conditions all day long.

January to February

These are the less consistent months of the year. Waves get smaller (2 - 5 ft). However, the climate is perfect, with cool evenings and bright sunny days. This is the perfect time of the year to learn how to surf or to score clean backbreaker peaks.
