The objective

This retreat is to take your wave-riding to a new level through intensive surf lessons (approximately 20 hours per week) in combination with a mix of daily Vinyasa flow and restorative post-surf yoga classes. Take part in the professional surf courses with Joana Andrade and her team from Ericeira Surf Progress and enjoy the healing and invigorating energy of practicing yoga by the ocean.

Ericeira Surf Progress provides surf classes for different levels in separated groups. The surf courses are specifically designed for your level of surfing, combining theory and practice in the most effective way. As a complete beginner you will learn how to surf with them from the start. Well-experienced surfers will get the chance to perfect their surfing techniques. Riding a wave requires focus, a clear mind and a strong, lean body. Thats why they give you the opportunity to join additional yoga classes. If you can find your focus and clear your mind through yoga, you will progress more in your surfing skills.

Combination of yoga and surfing

The benefits that yoga can have on surfing are far-reaching, whether it`s through strength, balance, flexibility or breathing techniques. On a physical level, yoga provides important pre-board stretches and allows the body to recover faster from the surf sessions. Joints become warmer and are opened, helping you to improve your flexibility, stability and energy. Learning how to breathe and clear your mind will help you to stay calm and relaxed and to tighten your focus, catching your best wave ever.

Yogis can also get benefit from surfing. Surfing is feeling as one with nature, feeling, and breathing with the ocean, connecting in deep respect to ride your wave in harmony. You may experience a new level of focus and intensity through surfing - there`s no reason to not give it a try.

The yoga classes

Yoga is for everyone, you don't need to be an aficionado, nor to be in top form. Each class includes the practice of pranayama (breathing exercises), asanas (seat, posture) and savasana (relaxation in the end of the class).

The morning classes will be the Vinyasa flow, a gentle practice of Hatha yoga which focuses on the synchronization of the breath (prana) with the postures (asanas). It is a dance of the asanas always in connection with breathing to calm the mind. Let the breath be your guide to liberate your mind and increase your inner peace, harmony, love and joy. Practicing yoga will help to harmonize the nervous system, increase the sense of balance of body and mind and strengthens the lymphatic system.

Traditionally, the evening classes are more soft, slow, restorative or yin yogis to integrate the day and prepare for a great rest for the night. Let yourself emerge into the flow of your yoga practice. Enjoy the breathing, and relax deeply your body, muscles, tendons, ligaments, joints and also your mind. Let yourself lead your own breath through a class full of regeneration, recreation and calm.

The surf lessons

Ericeira Surf Progress is the only surf school in Ribamar. The team consists of qualified teachers who are local surfers who perfectly know and master all the technical aspects of the sport. They know the region inside out and will be happy to share our knowledge and teach you how to read, surf and enjoy the ocean at its best. How to surf safely and how to feel confident in different surfing conditions, that is what you will learn with Ericeira Surf Progress. Ericeira Surf Progress provides surf classes for different levels in separated groups. "This retreat was truly magical. As someone coming alone and who had not be practicing yoga frequently in past months, I was a bit nervous when I arrived. I need not have been! Everyone at this retreat was so kind- from the staff and teachers to the other visitors, and I truly felt like a part of a family even after just a week. Everyone there was at different levels of yoga, and the classes accommodated everyone. There are also a wide range of ages there, and everyone seems so youthful and positive that no matter who you are, you fit in.The schedule created a healthy, comforting routine, but left enough space for exploration and relaxation. Even participating in two yoga classes and two meditations a day, you still have time to explore the nearby cliffs, beaches, and village. Many people took up surfing or explored the larger town of Ericeira. We had spontaneous dance parties and a New Year's celebration on the shore. In addition, the rooms are comfortable and there are plenty of spaces around the houses to cozy up and read, draw, or talk. The meals are delicious and offer plenty of options (including vegan and gluten free). The weather was wonderful despite being there in the winter, so I can only imagine what summers are like! In my week, the guest houses were full, but the place never felt crowded, and I always felt attended to and cared for. Lia and Eduardo truly love what they do and are amazing hosts. Finally, I would recommend the sweat lodge ceremony to anyone visiting. It is not relaxing spa-day kind of experience but a truly transformative one. It definitely changed my experience of the week and my perspective in general.I can't wait to go back, and I never wanted to leave!"

"I had an amazing time at Omassim, and am so excited to share with friends, family and other travellers how great it was. I thoroughly encourage anyone who is considering going on a yoga retreat to do it. It was one of the best experiences travelling that I have ever had. The yoga was excellent, offering 3 classes per day from 2 different instructors, plus 2 meditation sittings per day. There were also a variety of other meditations or activities that you could try. I tried surfing twice with the great instructors from Progress Surf School, the waves in Ericeira are consistent and great for learning. I have to talk about the food, I am not vegetarian, but I could happily eat Eduardo's cooking every meal of everyday. Lunch & dinner were different and so fresh every meal, with flavours and dishes that suited everyone's taste, from all different cultures. I can definitely see why people end up staying 2 or more weeks and continue to come back to Omassim year after year. Everything is done with love and an open-mind, it is clear that Lia, Eduardo and the team do this out of love and passion for sharing this experience with others, not for commercial reasons or a drive for money. Most people were travelling by themselves so by the end of the week, we felt like a family. I would love to come back to Omassim in the future and bring my friends and boyfriend to experience it too."

"My stay at Omassim was beyond my expectations. First of all the surrounding is perfect for a retreat, it is located in Ribermar, Ericeria, which is a small quite town you can hear nothing but dogs barking. If you are up for a walk, the beach is 20 min on foot, and definitely worth checking out to watch surfers and the most amazing waves."

"A usual day is slow but fulfilling, begins with an energizing yoga practise by Lia who is a great instructor, followed by an amazing breakfast, then people can go for surfing, do another yoga class or just chill at the hammocks at the backyard. After lunch you can get your massage, read a book, or go surfing. Later there is a 30 min meditation session which changed my life. I was never able to sit still and meditate until Omassim, so definitely try that. It is followed by a restorative yoga session and dinner."

"The food at Omassim is superb, it is an open buffet of delicious and healthy vegetarian food that totally nourished my body and soul."

"Lastly, Lia and Omassim crew were wonderful folks, positive, chill and helpful. The rooms are cleaned daily, people have the freedom to have as much food, fruits, tea as they want, and relax as they wish."

"Omassim is an incredible place to relax, rejuvenate, re-kindle that spark that has dimmed, meet like minded people from all over the world and make new friends. The yoga Sala is large (25+ people), lovely energy, excellent quality and plentiful equipment and the yoga classes are diverse and well taught. The food is amazing, nothing more to say. The staff are genuinely happy, laughter and even singing was often heard from the kitchen / dining area. The accommodation is clean, well laid out (over 2 properties across a very quiet village road) and the pool area has plenty of hammocks and cushions to relax on. Location is excellent, close to a main surfing beach, 5 ' drive to Ericeira (close but not too close). I visited lots of villages, palaces and gardens in Sintra and explored the countryside, all within easy driving distance. All this for a very reasonable price. I will go back."

"The most relaxing week ever! Me and my partner stayed in Omassim Guest House for a week. It was the perfect amount of yoga, swimming, surfing and relaxation. Yoga classes were incredible. I have never seen someone putting so much passion into it. Lia is just amazing yoga teacher. I was also impressed by her knowledge. Food in Omassim was just delicious and well balanced. I really enjoyed the variety of food, especially at dinners. I was celebrating my birthday during my stay at Omassim and got amazing birthday surprise and celebration. All stuff is very friendly, kind and always ready to help you. Surf classes took place at Ribeira D’Ilhas Beach which was announced one of the world surfing reserves. Surfing is hard-work but you’ll love it. Teachers are very reliable and supportive. We also enjoyed high quality massage which was the perfect ending of our stay in Omassim. Would definitely recommend to everyone!"

"I have just returned from a wonderful week of yoga and surfing at Omassim Guest House, Portugal. The atmosphere was exceptionally friendly and easy going. There were three yoga teachers, all of whom gave excellent classes. Lia was inspirational in the way she approached her yoga teaching, making adjustments and modifications, and talking in such an expressive way that everyone must have sensed the essence of yoga. Lia looked after all the guests with care and interest. Everyone was included in the close community feeling that was naturally generated there. The food was excellent, and the support staff were friendly and welcoming. I made some lovely friends and wouldn't hesitate to return! Missing everyone already!"

"I don't usually write reviews, only when a place really steals my heart. And it was the case with Omassim, I fell in love with this place so much that I didn't want to go away! If you have to choose a yoga retreat, go here without any doubt. There is everything you need to have the most beautiful experience ever: a wonderful location, next to the cliffs and the ocean, with a beautiful garden and swimming pool, with the most adorable people working to make you feel as good as possible: Eduardo, the portuguese vegetarian chef, offering an incredible variety of vegetables cooked with love and savoir-faire, Lia, one of the best yoga teacher I've ever had, generous and always present, and all the other people, Zarqa, Clara, Alex, and the volunteers staying for a shorter period of time. You have yoga classes twice a day, or even three times if you want to do more, and you can take surf and stand up paddle classes whenever you like it, go for a walk near the ocean or visiting the amazing places surrounding Ericeira (Mafra and Sintra for example). • Review by Camilla from London, United Kingdom

"I'm feeling so happy, refreshed, healthy and grateful for this life and body after a wonderful week at Omassim! Lia and her husband Eduardo own the retreat – he does all the cooking, there’s an array of delicious and creative vegetarian foods and flavors and plenty of it! I never went hungry and have been inspired to recreate dishes at home. Lia teaches the morning yoga and she’s one of the best yoga instructors I’ve had. She does Vinyasa flow. At night there’s meditation and another yoga session with a woman called Olga, who is also good. They split the surfing up from beginners to intermediate – and the trainers are very patient with the newbies and if you're a bit more experienced and confident they take you out the back to catch the unbroken waves giving tips while you're out there but letting you do your own thing. The water is cold because it’s the Atlantic (which doesn’t warm up) but they give you wet suits and booties, which you need because the ground is rocky, so they protect your feet. I never felt cold in the water, in fact I found it to be quite refreshing. I did the lot: yoga, surfing, all meals and a massage. I think this is the best way to do it because it's not close to an array of restaurants etc. so everyone eats together, plays together, sleeps together, etc. so you become really close with everyone. The Ayurvidic massage was incredible too, almost spiritual. In your down time you can just laze by the pool or in the hammocks with the rolling farm hills in the background. It really is so picturesque. Or you can walk into Ericeira which is an hour from the retreat. There were all sorts of people: friends, families, singles - and it’s a nice way to travel if you’re on your own because they organise everything for you and its easy to make friends with like minded people around you. It's a great price for the quality and experience you receive. Extras are optional so you can pick and choose what you take part in, but I'm so happy I did it all. Since I've been home I've not stopped talking it to everyone/anyone who will listen. I couldn't recommend it enough! Thank you Lia, Eduardo, Olga, Zarka and the guys at Progress Surf School for a wonderful week! I want to go back now!"

"The house of Omassim, a B&B, a guest house, a retreat center, a hotel, a seminar house. There is a really special and unique energy in that place, it is like staying with family. Lia is a great mother and an awesome yoga teacher. During her classes you can feel all the energy and love she has inside her! The food is phenomenal, Isabel the cook puts so much magic into her colorful and cheerful dishes. I say that I will go back soon! I can only give a 10 for all the services! But above all for all the peace and love that surrounds you there."

"I couldn’t have chosen better than Omassim for my first yoga retreat and first time in Portugal. Lia and Eduardo are exceptional hosts; warm, welcoming and accommodating to whatever you may need. You become part of a family, and the 2 houses instantly feel like home. There you have the luxury of ultimate relaxation whether in a hammock by the pool, reading a book in the cozy living area, or just hanging around just about anywhere. Eduardo also happens to be the cook, so to simply put it, his creations are culinary art, a blessing…and I may just return only to get another taste and another and another!! Having 2 yoga sessions and 1 meditation each day is a real treat. The teachers are mindful and committed, and although my usual practice is very dynamic, I was happy to be introduced to other styles of yoga. Just keep in mind that beginners and advanced students are in the same sessions. Do not miss out on the surfing experience; the instructors are great and you will crash in some awesome waves : ) For me it was the perfect retreat in all its senses and purposes. I was so lucky to meet amazing people from many corners of the world, and I felt at Omassim strangers turn into family. The energy is just naturally wonderful."

Lia and Edwardo have done an excellent job of creating both a business and a genuine life enhancing experience."

"The week was great. The host at Omassim were really great! The nicest people ever! And the food was amazing, really incredible, the best vegetarian food ever. The yoga sessions were very good with a lot of variation, and efforts to have diversity. (Sounds méditation, tasting méditation, Yin yoga, etc). I really recommend the place."

The two houses were really cozy and Lia and the others have achieved to turn it in a really peaceful and nice place. Would love to visit it again. They kept us busy with various interesting and spiritual experiences :)"

"What makes Omassim so special is not only the funky mix of high level yoga classes and the surf on the best beaches of Portugal, but the fact that this whole place is run by "love". Lia and Eduardo are the souls of this place, and through the very well designed yoga classes as much as the most delicious veggie food, this guesthouse is a place of refreshing your senses, cleaning the mind and the body alike. I personally loved Lia's sense of humor and lightness whilst caring about and for every single guest with great personal touch. I loved that! I felt at home and taken care of. The place is slightly remote, which was brilliant for me (quiet nights apart from a cock singing nicely in the morning). However, in hindsight a car or some sort of vehicle could be helpful if you decide to stay for longer. In any case, the place is great, loved the pool in the back garden too, and it's clean. So, even if you "only" go for the yoga, as I did, you'll still love it as the great coastline and beaches really allow for great meditative moments."

"Host was waiting for me when I arrived; Lia was welcoming and accommodating. The house was lovely, spacious and clean. One of the highlights was the food, appetising, and healthy. There were a choice of options to occupy the day including, meditation, and yoga classes led by Lia and a visiting teacher who were both very attentive and knowledgable - my back has never felt better! Surf instructors were first class, couldn't ask for better teachers! The other guests were fabulous, really lovely group of people. I had a great time, the only sad thing is that my holiday there is over!"

  • Review by Traveller from Zurich, Switzerland

"Omassim was a great retreat!!! I purchased the surf and yoga retreat for 8 nights and stayed in the 5-person bedroom. I went to de-stress and that is what the week totally did! I highly recommend! Other than some of the surfing (See below), I enjoyed every minute of my trip!THE FOOD: The food was amazing! I am not vegetarian but loved the food. This was probably my favorite part. I was lucky to be there for a night when Karo Tak was a substitute cook and cooked really nice vegan food! Both Eduardo and Karo were great cooks! Lots of variety and very tasty! Omassim also provided hot tea and fresh fruit 24/7 and coffee was .70 or 1 euro a shot.THE ACCOMODATIONS: The accomodations were cute and cleaned daily. It felt like a really nice and more cozy hostel. I don't recommend sharing a room if you are a light sleeper; I had one person that snored and ruined a good nights sleep. Except that one night, I slept like a baby and was tired from all the yoga and surfing. Even with 5 people sharing a bathroom; using the bathroom was never an issue because there were others available in the outside hallway. Omassim provided both a bath and beach towel. You could go to bed early or late; there was a very flexible schedule and everyone was courteous of each other's space and time.THE PEOPLE: The people were all so friendly and so diverse. There were couples, singles, groups, and people from all over the world. People arrived and left daily, so it wasn't as though you're stuck with the same people for a week. I went in the beginning of June and it was almost to full capacity, but it never felt crowded. There are two buildings with rooms; aka: plenty of space. There were definitely more females than males.THE YOGA: The yoga is taught by the owner, Lia. She is so sweet. She does two session where the one in the morning is more intense and the one in the afternoon is lighter for those tired from surfing during the day. It wasn't your hardcore power yoga, but still was a nice class and a decent amount of variety. People in the class were of all yoga levels! Generally, I felt the classes were on the more basic level. So, if you're a very advanced yogi, you may be disappointed. But, for me it was perfect, especially since we were doing it every day. If you have a chance to take Karo Tak's jivemukti yoga class - do it! Her class kicked my butt, in a good wayTHE SURFING: Ericeira is the first European surf reserve and you can probably find some killer waves if you're good. Otherwise it was an okay surf experience if you're learning or beginner. The surfing is taught by Ericeira Surf Progess and Joana. She was not there for half of my surf lessons, which was disappointing because she is a great surfer and a better instructor. Felipe was an ok surf instructor; he had a "theory" lesson, which felt like a waste of a couple hours. Their equipment was pretty crappy; which is probably my biggest complaint of the trip. Trying to surf in cold water with holes or too big wetsuits was not fun. The conditions were pretty rough the week I was there and it was cold. If you're big into surfing, I'd recommend just renting a board and going out on your own. If you're learning to surf, I'd personally go to somewhere like Bali or Hawaii ;)THE AREA: The town was walkable. GORGEOUS hikes along the cliffs/water/beachside. I walked to all beaches included in the surf reserve and it was great! If you want to "get away" walk 30 minutes North to sao lourenco beach. Otherwise, the closest beach to walk to is nice and had a decent bar restaurant with food, acai, ben & jerry's ice cream, and fresh smoothies.TRANSPORT: I took the metro from the airport to campo grande (3.30euro). Then, I took the Manfrense bus to the Ericeira bus stop (6.05euro). Lia picked me up at the bus stop (6euro) The bus portion can be as quick at 40 minutes, but as long as 1:20 depending on how direct it is. I took the most direct and transport was just about an hour."

"I went to Portugal, to Omassim, to enjoy relaxing holidays while doing a yoga retreat, and I lived an amazing week at Omassim! I didn't go there for surfing, but as I was there I decided to try and loved it!Everything was great: The yoga sessions in the morning are waking your body up and preparing it for the day, and the later Surf session. It doesn't leave you all sweating and tired! The ones in the evening are also perfect to relax and stretch your body after a good surfing class! I would have wished to have more meditation session, for example in the evening. The breakfast, lunch and dinner were really good, healthy, and in variation. I am looking forward a book of recipes! I was just a little bit disappointed by the lunch package (given when surfing is around lunch time). The surfing classes were also really nice. It's not that easy to get up on the board! Many thanks to the teachers for their patience with me!The guest house itself is a wonderful place! The dormitory I was in was great, well furnished, clean, and with a lot of day light also in the bathroom, private for people of the dormitory. We also had a nice balcony to enjoy the sun in the morning! In the garden there is a pool really nice to enjoy the sun after breakfast! I am usually afraid of dogs, but the dog of the house, even if big, is a sweetheart. I did not feel uncomfortable at all with this big ball of hairs and love! :-)During that week I also had the experience to enjoy unexpected activities: 1 evening in a good restaurant with the group from surfing. 2 great concerts at the guest house. A visit to an art gallery that moved me like I almost had never been moved!I also met amazing people, guests coming from around the world, I shared really good moments with! The staff is also amazing!Lia and Eduardo, thank you from the bottom of my heart for sharing this piece of paradise with us!"

Surfing, yoga, massages, excellent food; these all came together for the perfect week. But what sealed the package was the atmosphere and people. I have never been anywhere where I was instantly made to feel relaxed and at home. Lea and Eduardo are such genuine, open people you cannot help but feel warmed by them. "Omassim was a wonderful experience and one week was certainly not enough time at such a beautiful place. Lia, the owner, is such a kind person who constantly checked in with us to improve our stay in small ways. The yoga classes were so effective after long days surfing big waves. Would 100% recommend this to anyone regardless of yoga or surf experience. The meals were superb, fresh, and unique. Lastly, the total price was incredibly affordable especially given all of the activities and amenities included. We are anxious to return soon!"

  • Review by a traveler from Finland

"Yoga classesYoga Classes were excellent and the teacher was familiar with the different yoga genres. Yoga teacher has a long experience of teaching, and she has in-depth knowledge of yoga. In the morning, we started our first yoga exercise at 08, in the evening we had a meditation, followed by a gentle yoga. One development proposal would be that it would be good to know in advance what kind of meditation is done on different days. Some of the yoga practitioners are unable to sit for long periods of time, for example, because of hip or knee problems. The information of the type of meditation would allow participants to choose which classes they arrive. Some meditation practices were done, for example, lying down, and we were listening nice low-frequency music.Yoga studio was bright and comfortable. Yoga mats, pillows, support bricks and blankets were available. Yoga mats should be wiped every day because of hygiene. It would be good to ask, if the use of incense is ok in the yoga studio. There are a lot of allergic participants.AccommodationThe accommodation was pleasant and the rooms are clean. Each room would be good to have shelves or cupboards for clothes. Some of the rooms seems to have only chairs fastened high on the wall. This is a good idea, but impractical in terms of storage for clothes. It is also good to know in advance, that many people share one bathroom. The swimming pool is in use, but water was pretty cold. In the website could be read clearly how long the distance is from Omassim to the beach. Landscapes in Ericeira are breathtakingly spectacular! So, walking can be recommended!FoodThe food was excellent! The chef is skilled and he uses a lot of effort into the food. Every day we had also fresh, good breakfast rolls. Unlike tea, coffee is not part of breakfast at the price, but it will be paid separately. This would be good to know in advance.Other thingsThe owners are very helpful and friendly, and the atmosphere is charming. The price is nice, and I can really recommend yoga in Omassim!"

"My daughter and I have just had the most blissful week at Omassim on the Yoga Trail. We spent the whole week smiling, we were so happy. I looked for endless hours for just the 'right' place on the internet for us to do yoga and spend some quality time together. I am thrilled to say that it was well worth all that looking time because as soon as I saw Omassim, I knew it was the right place as had everything I was looking for. As soon as we arrived, we were welcomed as old friends and looked after with such care and thoughtfulness. It was everything I was hoping for, and more! I didn't expect a swimming pool, and really enjoyed the swimming, nor so many interesting people to spend time with, all very friendly; sensational, gourmet vegetarian food three times a day, and yoga so beautiful it made us both cry. This is the place to go if you want sun, space to be 'you', be happy and do some wonderful, heart-felt, in-the-body yoga with a stunning teacher. You'll find your body stretching and letting go of stress and becoming more deeply at peace with each yoga session, plus you can do your own yoga practice in the yoga room at other times if you like. Beautiful cliff tops walks among the wildflowers and honeysuckle, with fireflies and crystal clear skies at night, unspoiled beaches preserved by being a Surfing Heritage Site, and surfing if you feel adventurous, but no need to do surfing as just going to Omassim for the yoga or even just to stay and relax would be sublime. Have come home feeling totally blissed out. Will definitely be going back"

"Out of numerous hotels, hostels, someone's couches etc. where I stayed while on holidays, Omassim really stands out. It is not just a guest house, it's home where for a short period of time you get yourself a new family and let me tell you: a truly amazing one. Lia, Eduardo, Kali and the rest of the gang managed to create a place that you sink in and never want to leave. Set aside mind and body healthy yoga, surfing with the most attentive instructors, delicious meals (as a non-vegetarian it was hard for me to believe how easy it was not to eat meat and it is all due to Eduardo's genius cooking skills), the most refreshing walks to the beach and sneaky sun, Omassim is more than that. It has this vibe that tend to attract like-minded people who immediately catch that vibe and spread it for all the newbies making everyone feel as welcome as anyone possibly could. And I cannot stress enough that this is all due to the wonderful team who runs this place. When it comes to holidays I am a strong believer that in the end it is all about what you bring back with you: emotions, experience, much needed realizations and maybe something new you might learn about yourself. Omassim gives all of those to you and more. It is hard to believe how refreshed and rested you feel only after a week there. Imagine two, huh?)Even if you do not want to do any yoga or surfing and just look for a place with home-like atmosphere, fantastic people and the most picturesque coastline of Portugal, Omassim could also be a place for you. Those guys make sure that no matter what you do, you feel at ease and welcome. And really, what else do we all need?Keep it up, guys, miss you like crazy and already planning my comeback! You are running a place where you want to go back to over and over. And I honestly cannot thank you enough for that!"

"I had a great time at Omassim. I felt like I was welcomed into Lia and Eduardo's home, not a guesthouse. I stayed in the five-bed room. It was very spacious and I loved having roommates. Surfing was great fun. It's surprisingly hard to stand on the board, but I managed it eventually. I loved Lia's yoga classes. She's a stickler for alignment and technique, which is good, because you can then benefit fully from the postures. She creates a really strong mind/body connection in her classes. I really enjoyed the restorative yoga in the evenings. In particular, I loved the healing bowls, as I respond well to sound. The vibrations certainly engaged my relaxation reflex. I'd never experienced anything like that before. Eduardo always had the log fire burning. You can't beat an open fire!. We had super healthy breakfasts and meals. My favourite dishes were the quinoa, herb and walnut salad, the mango mousse dessert and the cauliflower soup. Andreanne's soup was so good most of us had second helpings.Let's just put it this way - when you get to the final day of your stay, you'll be saying "Oh, I wish I could stay a little bit longer". Lia is a great hugger too!"

"Omassim was literally like coming home. Obviously, in the beginning everyone is a bit stand off-ish , and I'm definitely one to stand back and not talk very much in a new place with new people, but I promise it didn't take long before we were laughing, making jokes and finding peace in our classes.I was blessed with being there with the best group for a week. (Many of us were there just that week so we arrived and left together). Everyone came with their story, their travel journey and seeking a "time out". Somewhere we could be safe, fed and rested. Our last night together we talked about how amazing Lia is as a yoga teacher and she explained to us that it wasn't normal for a teacher to do all of the classes in one day, but we were special and had received all of her attention due to scheduling conflicts. And this, this very coincidence is how I can say Omassim became a home.We as a group were treated so amazingly well , and with such warmth and tenderness. Sometimes in this crazy world all you need is a hug and a smile. It was perfect , with the perfect students and teacher.I've left with an appetite for veggies (where I used to say I'm a carnivore by nature, thank you Eduardo) , amazing new friends (two of which are my new Omassim partners in crime), and a very peaceful center to remind me when I am in reality that the sounds of the waves (not too far away) are a home that I always have in a beautiful place by the Ericeira/Ribamar coast."

"I had such an amazing time during my yoga and surf retreat stay at Omassim. The staff at Omassim and Ericeira Surf Progress were not only friendly and accommodating, but also professional and fun! Lia was a wonderful yoga instructor who tailored her yoga classes based on the levels of the participants. She also varied the time of yoga classes based on our surfing school schedule and opinions of each member. The food was also incredibly delicious. Each meal was different and it was very apparent that Eduardo put a lot of time, effort, and love was put into each dish. It is also very apparent that the staff at Omassim care about all of their members and love hosting. For example, during one of our surfing classes, the staff of Omassim came out to the beach to watch us and take pictures for us. Kali even put on a wetsuit, got in the water, and took pictures of us with his personal GoPro! During my stay I didn't feel as if I was just on a relaxing retreat. I felt as if I was spending quality time with new friends and family. Omassim has so much to offer. I only participated in the yoga, meditation, surfing, and food, but they also have massages, fire and glass walking, the sweat lodge, and day excursions. I would rate my retreat as a 10/10 and I cannot wait to come back and participate in other things that Omassim has to offer. Thanks Omassim for an incredible week!"

"I spent an amazing ten days at Omassim and would have loved to stay longer. Lia takes very good care of everyone and is a great yoga teacher. She adapts her classes to the wishes of the guests - suggestions are welcome. There were also meditation classes for those who were interested. Eduardo's cooking was incredible - there was a different menu every night, including a soup and salad and everybody always ate too much because it was so good. The guesthouse is very well looked after - everything was clean. Airport pickup worked perfectly even though I arrived at 1am at night and had to leave at 5am in the morning. The surfing was fantastic. Joana, Filipe and Ni are the best surf teachers I've ever had - very trustworthy and enthusiastic. They all came out with us to the village of Ericeira one night and showed us a great time. Inma"

"Had a wonderful Jivamukti retreat who so to speak really recharged my batteries. The whole place vibes with good and hearty energy created by the people who lives and work there. The rooms are really nice and clean and I felt like home right away. The outdoor areas are beautiful with lots of opportunities for relaxing in a sunbed, the hammock or take a dip in the lovely pool. The surrounding areas are really beautiful and good for trails along the sea, at the cliffs and to the really nice neighbor cities."

"All the days we were served with beautiful and tasty vegan food, it was so good. The yoga this week was special and instructed by external teachers, so can't comment on that. (But if you have the chance to attend a Jivamukti class you should really do so!) Will without doubt come back another time if I have the opportunity."

"Great people, yoga, surfing, amazing vegetarian cuisine, relaxing massage - what more could you want on holiday. The care of every guest personally make everyone feel like at home in a big family house. Very special place where you want to return! I tried surfing for the first tie in my life and thanks to amazing Joana and Filipe from Ericeira Surf Progress I'm now dreaming of the ocean! Thank you Omassim! The location is wonderful with several beautiful beaches nearby. Also you could take bus/taxi to Mafra or Sintra. "

"This is the perfect stay if you want to get away from working life or from your thoughts. I have never been so unstressed since I can remember."

"First of all, we got picked up by Lia and had a nice room in a small district near Ericeira. I really felt home and I was amazed how nice everyone was. Not only staff but also other visitors. Even if you want to be alone, everyone understands and gives you space. Second, the yoga lessons were very good. I am a beginner in yoga, so I had to keep up, but that was the best way to learn. Almost 3 hours a day of yoga, and sometimes 5 hours a day were perfect for me. Also the area around the guesthouse was attractive."

"And last but not least, the vegetarian buffet was amazing! I was there in October 2015, and now I am planning to come back around May this year. "

"I attended a yoga retreat that used the property and facilities of Omassim guesthouse. I didn’t sleep there so can’t comment on rooms etc. I did eat there and will comment on the food. It was amazing. Vegetarian option only but so delicious and varied that not once did I miss meat. The red wine on offer was also great. Lia the landlady was obliging and very welcoming. She was always willing and able to find solutions to any request and question. I would highly recommend checking it out for meals if in the area. They offer an array of services – ranging from retreats to daily yoga classes. "

"My stay at Omassim was amazing. I wish I could have stayed longer - but already after five days I feel so well-rested. The yoga classes (twice a day), the meditation classes, the food, the atmosphere - it was all fantastic. I would definitely recommend it to anyone interested in yoga, surfing, amazing waves and not thinking about shopping or cooking but eating as a queen (or king). Can't wait to go back."

"This place is amazing. If you just want to chill and read your book by the pool, or go for walks on the cliffs with breathtaking views, or practice yoga with a wonderful teacher (Lia), or go for mild beginners or intense surfing sessions, this place has it all. Oh and the best thing is food! Eduardo is a great cook and every dinner was a surprise full of vegan/vegetarian goodies. Also try the ayurvedic massage. And the crowd is great, I have made friends I will keep in touch with in the future."

"Stayed at Omassim for 8 days and it was a really welcoming and friendly place. We did the yoga and surfing package and it really filled our days with still time for walks along the cliffs nearby. Lia takes the yoga classes and they are a fantastic way to start the day, energetic and calming at the same time. Eduardo's cooking was very, very good and feels like cleaning your body with tasty food. They are both welcoming people who made us feel right at home."

"There's the ultimate mix of great vegetarian food, Vinyasa Flow and Yin Yoga classes, possibilities to go surfing with their partner surf school, go for excursions... But most of all, the atmosphere is so great. It's almost like a home away from home; simple and comfortable (and not pricey) and there aren't that many rooms so it's always intimate. Unlike in a hostel, you actually get to know the other people (if you want to). And if you don't feel like being very active, you can just as well just hang out in a sun chair reading or go for a walk down to the beautiful beaches nearby. I did the yoga/surf package which is a week, 5 days of surf classes and yoga in the morning and evening, with all meals included (and an amazing ayurvedic massage). It was so great, I came back for a weekend three months later! And I don't think it's the last time, either."

"My boyfriend and I stayed one week at Omassim and had a wonderful time. The guesthouse is spacious, perfectly clean and quiet. The owner Lia is a truly lovely person, a really good yoga teacher (as is Marion, another staff member) and does relaxing massages. Breakfast buffet offers a great variety of food, lunch packages are tasty and Eduardo prepares delicious vegetarian and vegan food for dinner. The other staff members are also very friendly, always available and very nice to talk to. Manolo, the big dog living at Omassim is not allowed to enter the house so that he doesn't pose any problems for people with allergies (like me). He is very calm, sweet and lovely. My boyfriend also took the surf classes at Ericeira Surf Progress, a local surf school which cooperates with Omassim. The lessons are very good, the teachers professional with a lot of experience (but also fun!), and the groups small, so everyone gets more than enough individual time. He always felt safe and enjoyed himself very much. We would definitely come back for the perfect vacation at Omassim!"

"I came here for the first time in July and had such a good time I ended up coming back twice during August! Lia, Eduardo and Marion were so friendly, inviting and really helpful during my stays. Lia's and Marion's yoga classes were brilliant and made such a big improvement to my surfing, I would definitely recommend the yoga classes to any travelling surfers out there. Eduardo's food was just amazing, I'd have to have about three helpings every night :) The location is perfect, close to the beautiful town of Ericeira, 10 minute walk to Ribeira D'ilhas one of the funnest and most consistent waves in Europe and 15-20 minute walk to Coxos one of Portugal's best and heaviest waves."

"Thanks to Lia and the whole crew for making my vacation the best ever! The food was divine - this coming from an avid carnivore (I am still dreaming of the minty quinoa with walnuts). The yoga sessions with Lia and Marion were the perfect way to start and end each day. The surfing team was helpful, supportive, and fun. The guesthouse was a haven for relaxation and restoration - it felt like home as soon as I opened the gate. The other guests were also great - I traveled alone, but left with many new friends. It was so good, I'm already planning my return trip. In short, do yourself a favor and book already - you won't be disappointed"

" Truly wonderful experienceI spent one week at Omassim Guesthouse in August 2014 and had an absolutely amazing time! I did the 5-day yoga surf package which consists of a yoga class in the morning, followed by daytime surf lessons and then an evening yoga class. Also included are vegetarian meals (breakfast, lunch package and dinner) and a relaxing massage. It really is excellent value for money.I would highly recommend a stay at Omassim for the excellent service and wonderful relaxing atmosphere. From the moment I arrived I was made to feel at home by Lia and Eduardo. They are true hosts, nothing was too much trouble for them. Together with the other yoga and surf instructors they made me and the other guests feel like we were all part of a lovely family. The food was amazing, better than most restaurants I have been to recently! And the yoga classes and surf courses were excellent too, both taught by highly experienced and very friendly instructors. I was able to make a lot of progress in just one week.It really was the perfect recipe for getting away from everyday hectic life, with a great balance between activity and relaxation. An added benefit is that you will get healthy, tanned and toned along the way! Finally the location is wonderful with several beautiful beaches nearby, and the rooms and shared bathrooms were nice and clean, which is very important to me.A big thank you to all at Omassim who made my holiday so memorable, and I look forward to returning as soon as I get the chance!"
