Djerba is calling! Come and learn kiting with Oasis Kite at one of the last yet uncrowded lagoons. After just a 2.5-hour flight to the island of Djerba, you will dive into another culture and will fill your book of life with incredible moments and great learnings. Djerba is waiting for you with a world-class flat water lagoon that offers the best conditions to beginners and riders.
Instructions will be offered in English and/or German.
Oasis Kite's big kite villa offers everything you need to calm down and relax after an exhausting kite session. Its three terraces and a huge rooftop terrace provide a lot of sunbathing and chill-out areas. The rooftop terrace is magic during the Djerbian sunsets and the perfect spot for a yoga session with a view to the sea.
In the common areas, you have more chill-out areas and a TV to watch the latest kitesurf movies or get a video analysis of your last session. The kitchen is fully equipped and can be used by you during the day. There, delicious breakfast and dinner for you are prepared too. Every room is decorated in a lovely and oriental touch so we are sure you will feel like at home from the first minute on. If you want to go to one of the most beautiful beaches in Djerba, it's just a 5-minute walk from the villa.
Many roads lead to Djerba. However, most of the guests land at Djerba – Zarzis international airport via direct flights. They will meet you there at the agreed time and warmly welcome you to your well-deserved vacation. When you arrive at the camp, you first have to relax, move into your room and arrive relaxed. The beach is only a few meters away, so there's nothing wrong with a first swim in paradise. You will get to know the other camp participants and the team at the welcome BBQ at the latest.
After breakfast you set off. You will receive your personal kite equipment for the week, consisting of a harness, helmet, impact vest, and a wetsuit appropriate to the weather. You then make your way to your second living room. When you arrive at the spot, you'll get a first impression of what being a kiter entails other than looking good on the beach. They will explain the special features of the spot, the structure of the material and focus on the safety systems.
It is extremely important that you are a 100% independent kiter at the end of the week, so these basics are particularly important. After the theoretical foundation has been laid, you go into the water for the first time. The focus today is on safe starting and landing as well as various exercises for controlling the kite. Depending on the wind conditions, it is realistic that you will soon be able to control the kite “blindly” with just one hand. After this first intensive day on and in the water, you go back to the camp, where top-class Tunisian delicacies await you for dinner.
Rested and strengthened, you continue today. At the spot today you will immediately implement what you learned the day before and do an individual spot check. After you have agreed with your kite instructor which kite size is suitable for today, you set up your kite yourself.
Today in the water it is important to consolidate yesterday's training successes and learn the first body drags. With bodydrag you let the kite pull you through the water in a controlled manner. Among other things, you need body drags to get back to your board in any situation. Bodydrags are the most important basis for all further steps and are enormous fun because you can use the power of the kite in a controlled manner for the first time. After this action-packed day, you go to a typical Djerbian restaurant in the evening and have something to eat.
Today you'll first refine your body drag technique. As soon as the three body drags (downwind, directional, and upwind) are in place, the moment you have been working towards finally comes: you add the board! Together with your instructor, you will approach the board start step by step. Now everything you learned before comes together and the timing gets better with every attempt. And then it happened. You stand on the board and glide for the first few meters! Hammer! With this feeling of happiness in our luggage, you head back to the Kitevilla, where you evaluate the day in a friendly atmosphere with a video analysis.
Today is all about the board start. On land you go through the movement sequences in detail again and answer any remaining questions before you get back on the water and you train, train, and train board starts. The board start is the most complex movement sequence at the beginning of every kiter's career. It is therefore important that all of the individual components previously learned work well and are put together to form a fluid movement sequence. It's quite possible that today you'll find out what your best side is when starting your board. In the evening you go to video analysis to prepare for the next day.
Yikes, that was quick! Wasn't it just Saturday yesterday? Today is actually the last day of the 20-hour kite course and you need to make full use of it again. You refine your board starting technique and try to ride the first 50 meters in one or both directions. You are one step closer to the maximum feeling of freedom. In any case, after the week you will be well prepared for the spots in the world and confident in handling your material. Welcome to the kitesurfing community!
Um, you thought kite week was over?! No, it isn't, because they have integrated a "buffer day" into the week for you exclusively and probably as the only kite camp in the world. Because even on Djerba there is sometimes no wind. On the buffer day you can follow countless other activities on the island or simply chill out in the Kite Villa or on the beach.
If you have six good wind days in a row, you can of course rent equipment for the extra day and go out on the water again. Of course they will be there and will keep an eye on you (accompanied kiting included). The lagoon is perfect for continuing your training independently after the course. Let's rock it! No matter whether it's a cool trip to the sights of Djerba or action on the water, there's still a worthy farewell party today.
Today is departure day and unfortunately that means saying goodbye again. Since the new camp participants are also arriving today, you have to vacate your room by 10 a.m. Until your departure, you can of course continue to chill in the villa, go to the beach and enjoy the Djerbian lifestyle. They look forward to welcoming you back to one of their camps soon.
Depending on previous experience and individual learning speed, the respective daily goals can of course shift and are in every case individually tailored to your learning pace. The weekly plan only serves to provide an overview of the training process, but should in no way be viewed as definitive.
As kitesurfers, you are of course dependent on the wind and they will plan your day accordingly. They make a joint battle plan for the following day the evening before so that everyone knows what activities are planned for the next day. Please note that the kite camps are heavily discounted package prices, which is why they cannot offer discounts in calm or stormy conditions.
Oasis Kite offers guests the 100% Djerba experience. So when the wind doesn't blow, they take you to the colourful markets, white sand beaches, and green olive groves of the island. You will be amazed by the great friendliness of the residents and the many facets of the popular holiday island.
Florian is a certified VDWS kite instructor since 2014 with teaching experience around the world. His teaching destinations include Germany, Spain, Colombia, Portugal, Tunisia. He can speak German, English, and Spanish.
Djerba is a very unique island in the south of Tunisia. Known for its long white sand beaches it has to offer a lot more to water sports enthusiasts as the wind blows constantly around 15-25 knots. Next to the great kitesurf conditions, you will find a diverse culture and oriental lifestyle. Djerbiens are well known for their great hospitality and you will love it to stroll around the local markets and have a mint tea or fresh pressed orange juice in the old town of Houmt Souk.
Wake up well-rested in the morning with the smell of freshly brewed coffee in your nose and fortify yourself at the richly set breakfast table. After an extensive kite session, Tunisian cook Wahiba will spoil you with regional delicacies or they will prepare a delicious (fish) BBQ on the typical Djerbian grill. Vegetarian meals are available on request.
Dinner is included on 5 out of 7 nights. On two evenings during the camp week, you visit local restaurants, only the restaurant visits are not included in the price.
