The Quinta has been built and expanded over the years so every room is different and has its own character. They have three suites with private bathrooms that have access to the garden and seven single and double rooms with shared bathrooms. There are never more than three rooms sharing one bathroom.
The retreat center consists of a main house with nine bedrooms and six bathrooms and an annex with three apartments. The large south-facing terrace with beautiful views over the surrounding green hills is the ideal place to enjoy dinner or just relax with a book. The spacious living and dining room is the center of the house where meals can be enjoyed together and the big fireplace makes sure that even during colder days it is warm and cozy.
There is an indoor and outdoor yoga space for daily yoga classes and an outdoor swimming pool to cool down during the warmer days. The main house is surrounded by a big garden with numerous fruit trees which offers enough space for everyone to relax. For guests arriving by car, there is a car park on the grounds.
As the main house is built against a rock its different levels give it a unique character. Each room has a different size and offers different views of the surrounding area. The guest rooms are divided over four levels with no more than four rooms per floor. They offer a variety of accommodation options:

If you want to give surfing a try you can choose this package with one yoga class a day and five days with surf lessons. You don’t need any previous experience and will get an introduction to the theory and practice of riding a wave on a surfboard. The surf lessons take place only a short drive from Buddha Retreats with some of Europe’s best surf spots to learn surfing.
The yoga
During the retreats, they teach Iyengar yoga, which is a dynamic and physically intensive form of yoga where the focus is on the correct alignment of the asanas (postures). This practice allows the energy to flow freely through the body. The practice of yoga will give strength and flexibility to the body and more peace in your mind.
All yoga teachers are fully qualified and have done several years of training. Iyengar yoga is suitable for all levels. Asana practice is a big part of each yoga class. By practicing asanas the body develops flexibility, strength, and stamina. By cultivating the body, the mind can become clear and quiet.
The surf
Portugal and in particular the west coast around Peniche and Baleal offer some of the best conditions for surfing. For beginners as well as for more advanced surfers. They believe that students learn best in small groups where instructors can meet individual needs and skill levels. The surf lessons are suited for different levels of experience from beginners to more advanced surfers.
The instructors will take their time to explain the theory and practice of basic skills on the beach. They will provide you with all the equipment needed and a wetsuit that will keep you warm while surfing. Surfing conditions are good all year round with bigger waves during autumn and winter and smaller waves in spring and summer.
Yoga for surfers
The yoga practice focuses on core strength and balance which have great benefits for surfing. Each class is a challenge and you will work your body. Sun salutations are a great way to strengthen the arms and the chest before surfing while forward bending and twisting are a great way to release the body after a day of surfing.
Each session ends with at least 5 minutes of relaxation (Savasana). Surfers and non-surfers of all levels can benefit from the classes. During the yoga and surf retreat, guests will have one yoga class and one surf lesson per day.

Nancy Reyerts
Nancy is a lively, energetic, caring, and attentive Iyengar yoga teacher. She has completed the 3-year Iyengar teacher training program and has been teaching ever since. In her classes, she brings the energy that her yoga practice has brought her. Guiding the students safely toward the benefits that yoga brings. Making contact with each student, correcting, adjusting, and teaching how each body can develop in its own unique way. Making it possible for everyone to experience the advantages of the Iyengar yoga method.
Marie Endres
Marie is a passionate, dedicated certified E-RYT® Yoga Teacher with over 15 years of experience. Originally from Germany, she now lives in Portugal where she shares her deep love for yoga with students from around the world. Marie’s yoga journey has taken her across the globe, including extensive training in Germany, Bali, and India where she studied Vinyasa, Hatha, and Yin Yoga. Her approach integrates both the physical and mental aspects of yoga, encouraging balance, strength, and mindful stillness. Her teaching style is a mix of traditional Hatha Yoga and the dynamic flow of Vinyasa.
Location
Buddha Retreats is located close to the west coast of Portugal in the village of Columbeira and only an hour's drive north of Lisbon. The area around Columbeira is known for its cultivation of pears and lies along the western wine route with many beautiful wineries nearby and the medieval village of Obidos only a few kilometers away. The proximity of the Atlantic Ocean with frequent rainfalls during the winter months results in lush and green hills all year round.
Food
Buddha Retreats takes food very seriously. As part of all retreats, they provide you with daily delicious and healthy meals. They serve an abundance of locally grown fresh fruits and vegetables, often coming from their own garden or the nearby markets. The menu is based on the philosophy of whole foods, so they avoid processed foods and preservatives as much as possible.
In the morning, they will serve you a healthy and energizing breakfast which includes fresh fruit, homemade granola, freshly baked bread, and banana bread among other things. After an active day, they will serve dinner either on the terrace enjoying the views across the surrounding hills, or indoors in front of the crackling fireplace.
As part of the retreat, you can enjoy a selection of fresh fruits, coffee, herbal teas, and purified water as much as you wish. During dinner time, they serve Portuguese red and white wines.

Arrival by public transport
Once you arrive at Lisbon Airport and pick up your luggage, you need to take a taxi to the Campo Grande bus terminal which is only 2.5 kilometers away from the airport. There is a taxi stand just outside of the arrival area. From the Campo Grande terminal buses leave frequently to Bombarral (around 45 minutes). The bus to Bombarral leaves on the right side of the terminal in a side street (when looking towards the football stadium) opposite a tall green building. You can download the bus timetable of the Rapida Verde bus from Lisbon to Bombarral from the website of Rodoviaria do Oeste. From the bus terminal in Bombarral, it is a 10-minute taxi ride to Buddha Retreats (10 EUR on weekdays and 12 EUR on weekends one way). We are happy to arrange a taxi for you in Bombarral.
Airport pickup: Buddha Retreats can also arrange a transfer from Lisbon airport for €90. Please let them know about one week before the start of the retreat.
Cancellation Policy
- A reservation requires a deposit of 20% of the total price.
- The deposit is non-refundable, if the booking is cancelled.
- The rest of the payment should be paid on arrival.
