You have the option of shared accommodation or get a double room. The apartments have a shared living room, kitchen, bedroom, and bathroom, as well as TV, telephone, and internet. The accommodation also has a swimming pool and a garden.
Program
A team of passionate and motivated surf instructors from Atlantic Coast Surf School will help you learn surfing from the basic or to develop your surfing skills even further. You will have top quality surf lessons and personalized instruction by professionals who have long surfing experiences and more than 10 years of experience in teaching surfing.
Every day, the team will carefully choose the best spot and tides and meet you for the surf lesson. Afterward, you will be able to relax at the beach, surf on your own, or go and explore the region, relax at the pool or at one of the beautiful beaches around.
During the lessons, you will have, at your disposal, top quality surf material, suitable to your surf level, to give the conditions and comfort you deserve. Your instructor will explain how to deal with surf equipment, to make a surfboard your friend. You are guaranteed to receive all the critical knowledge and skills to surf safely.
Surf lesson schedules vary from day to day as they depend on ocean tides and weather conditions but the team will always keep you updated. You will learn how to prepare your body for the surf session with a proper warm-up, enter the water in the right place and at the right time, choose waves and paddle efficiently, and manage to stand up on board. The goal is to keep balance and have fun!
Surfing
Each lesson is 90 minutes, you will get the right surfboard and warm wetsuits with insurance included. On average, you should have a ratio of three to six people per teacher but it’s never more than eight students. You’ll have time to both enjoy the beach and explore the region, and of course to have fun with a bit of party.
Skill Information
You can join the surf lessons even if you don't know how to swim. Just let Atlantic Coast know that, anyway, the instructors are always close to you and will teach you all the safety rules you need to know. You don't need to have any experience to join the surf lessons, Atlantic Coast teaches individually, you don’t have to adapt to the lesson, they will adapt to you.
There are rip currents in the surf spots of Portugal, however, if you learn to surf with Atlantic Coast it’s something you don’t have to worry about; plus they will teach you on the surf lessons on how to handle with it.

Robert Tauer
Robert comes from Germany and started to surf in NZ at 16. He studied Business and Engineering, but after the first season working with Atlantic Coast Surf School…well, he loved it so much that now he repeats it and in the Winter goes to the mountains to teach ski and snowboard. He says: “ahh I really love this season working and I wanna do it more!” He’s super talented dealing with people, careful, patient and gentle with kids. He speaks perfect English, understands Spanish and learns Portuguese. Besides surfing, he haves a passion/dream. Building ecologically sustainable wooden surfboards.
Pedro Baião
Pedro B is a local boy! Former lifeguard at the beach. He studied nature and sports guiding, but after watching Atlantic Coast Surf School work every day while on lifeguard duty, well he joined the team! He’s super talented in dealing with people, careful, patient, and gentle with kids. He speaks perfect English, and understands Spanish and Portuguese is his native language.
Luis Pinheiro
Luis is also a local! He's a surf addict always in good mood and motivated to teach. With a martial arts background, he's used to different teaching approaches. He helps build ecologically sustainable and responsible operations! He speaks perfect English, and understands Spanish and Portuguese is his native language. Great mood and good vibes all around!
Rodrigo Silva
Rodrigo is a local boy! Always smiling and singing! Studying nursing. He's ready to help you and making you stand up on the board! Talented and motivated for your surf holidays trip! He will adpat your skills on surf to grown up in a surfboard! He help us build a responsible and sustainable operation with surf lessons. He speaks English, Portuguese and understand Spanish.
Location
Portugal is considered to be one of the best surf regions in Europe with very consistent surf spots, there are waves all year round. With world-class surf towns like Ericeira and Peniche and with uncrowded coastline full of uncrowded surprises. It also has got very famous waves like Super Tubes, considered to be the best left in Portugal, in Peniche, a true surf town; or like Coxos, Cave, or Ribeira d’Ilhas in Ericeira.
Santa Cruz is in between the crowded towns of Peniche and Ericeira and just 45 minutes from Lisbon; chill or party, you will enjoy a great picturesque town! Praia Azul is 15 minutes from Torres Vedras, a west coast gem, totally off the beaten track and just 30 minutes from the medieval town of Óbidos, in case you want to immerse yourself in history. Bus services run between Lisbon and Torres Vedras or Santa Cruz, making transfers easy should you not come by car.
Air and water temperature
- During the summer months (July - September)
During the summer months, the water temperature is at about 20 degrees and the air at 20 to 30 degrees. You are recommended a 3/2 or 4/3 wetsuit. A shorty also works on hot days.
- During the winter months (December - February)
Water temperature during this seasons cools down to 14 degrees. The air is from 10 to 25 degrees. You are recommended a 4/3 wetsuit and surf booties during this time of the year, plus a hood on windy days.
- During the mid-season
In the mid-season, you are well equipped with a 4/3 wetsuit.

- Praia Azul - Uncrowded sand bottom beach break and some points and reefs breaks.
- Santa Cruz
- Peniche - You will have world-class waves at Super Tubes and in Baleal, Lagido Baia, and Cantinho da Baia.
- Ericeira - Famous for world-class point breaks, like Ribeira d’Ilhas, but you can also have easy waves like Matadouro and other beach breaks.
