When is the best time to surf in Manuel Antonio

Best time to go

The best time to surf in Manuel Antonio is during the major swell on the Pacific Coast, running from May to November. In Manuel Antonio, the mornings are typically offshore, before a seabreeze picks up - so it always pays off to get out of bed early.

The months from November to Mid-April are the high season of the country, with most warm and sunny days. Although the climate of Costa Rica is humid throughout the year, November to April are the driest months, with clear blue skies, cool nights, lush greenery, and a breezy offshore wind.

From the end of April to August it starts raining more, but mostly in the evenings and nights. With its major swell, smaller crowds and lower prices, this is a great period to discover this region on a smaller budget and with great surf conditions at the same time.

You can expect the rain season to happen between September and October, also named as the Green Season. In this time, the jungle is gratefully receiving its much needed water, making the jungle flourish and come alive.

Because of its high water temperature year-round (26-28 C), there’s no need for a wetsuit and you can wear bikinis or boardshorts anytime!
