You get authentic village feeling in beautiful Ericeira, lovely down to earth atmosphere. With Rui you get the best guide that is taking time and are not having too many attendees in the course so you get a better follow up. The other surfing schools had too many joining the course and it all looked like chaos. I got personal follow up, and felt safe all the time and also got the necessary patience and good coahcing needed to get up on the board! I just want to go back!

I stayed at Rui and Magda’s surf camp last week, and honestly — it was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had. From the very first moment, it felt like coming home. Rui and Magda are such warm, caring, and genuinely good-vibes people. They don’t just teach surfing; they create a space where everyone feels welcome, supported, and inspired.

They always take the time to share great local tips — where to eat, what to explore, and how to make the most of your stay. You can really feel that they love what they do and care deeply about everyone who comes through their doors.

Meeting them was incredibly meaningful to me. It’s rare to find people who combine such professionalism with so much heart and authenticity. I’m already planning to come back next year — there’s no question about it!

Best part was the family vibe. We surfed, then chilled at the bar. Rui never looks at the watch, only at the sea, our energy and our smiles.

The hostel was amazing. Small, quiet, clean, aesthetic and well located. The people were a bit more mature than in the usual party hostels, so a little family formed quickly and we enjoyed our vacation together. Truly top.

This was honestly one of the best weeks of my life. Came to learn how to bodyboard and I couldn't have picked a better experience. I was spoiled because Rui was a former pro bodyboarder. Rui not only took the time to teach me how to ride the board but he also took the time to teach me about reading the ocean. I went from floundering in the water the first session to catching 3ft waves on my own by the end. The seakrew is amazing and Rui and Magda are wonderful people. They were helpful during the whole trip, not just when I was surfing. Can't say enough good things. Im grateful for the experience.

Overall, just an amazing experience! Everything was perfectly organized - from the booking process and airport pickup to the scheduling of yoga and surf sessions. Rui, as a surf instructor, is highly recommended: he knows exactly how to help you improve your skills, challenges you in the right way, always ensures your safety, and shares valuable advice for understanding the sea.

Magda, on the other hand, is always checking in to make sure you feel comfortable during your stay. She recommends lovely places and makes you feel truly welcome!

Rui and Magda were absolutely amazing. They cared about every aspect of the trip and had a super efficient communication. Rui is a great surf coach and made a miracle in making me catch waves already in the first session. Shout also to Boleco, great passion and heart in teaching surf. So many good things! Rui is an experienced surfer and does an excellent job explaining technique and safety to beginners. He has a great attitude and will help motivate you through challenges. You will be in a small group so lots of time and advice from Rui. Communication with him and his wife Magda about plans and lesson times was excellent. They provide all equipment you will need for the lesson and transportation to/from the beach. The accommodations are located in Ericeira city center close to everything, with a restaurant underneath. The hostel is small but comfortable and bathrooms are very clean.

I had the most incredible surf and yoga trip to Ericeira thanks to Rui and Magda who were the perfect hosts – warm, welcoming, and incredibly organised. Every detail of the trip was thoughtfully planned, from the surf sessions to the yoga classes and even the delicious local spots they introduced me to. They truly love what they do, and it shows in the way they go above and beyond to make sure every guest has the best possible experience.

Each day, they adjusted the surf schedule to suit the conditions and help me get the most out of every session. The yoga was the perfect complement – relaxing, grounding, and beautifully delivered. The accommodation was also spot on – comfortable, clean, and a great place to unwind.

Das Surfen mit Rui war perfekt!

Er bereitet sich genau auf seine Gäste vor, sucht die passenden Bedingungen raus (Ort, Zeit etc.) und es sind immer kleine Gruppen (ich war auf Grund der Nebensaison allein mit Rui, 1-zu-1-Coaching quasi).

Während der Session fühlt man sich durchgehend sicher, auch bei größeren Wellen. Er versteht sein Handwerk sehr und ist sehr auf Sicherheit bedacht.

In diesen 5 Tagen (4 davon surfen) lernte ich mehr als in den Camps zuvor!

Man fühlt seine Leidenschaft für den Ozean und das Surfen. Er zieht einen förmlich mit hinein in seinen Spirit.

Das waren ganz hervorragende 5 Tage in Ericeira.

Werde definitiv wiederkommen zu Rui&Magda!

Rui is an incredible coach who gave me so much confidence. As an ex-elite athlete I have worked with many coaches and Rui is one of the best. He knew how to take me outside my comfort zone and taught me so much in and out of the water.

Both Rui and Magda (and the very friendly Pingo the Dachshund) were there for me throughout my stay and in the run up to me travelling. They helped with recommendations in Ericieria, a trip to Nazaré and Lisbon.

The yoga was the perfect balance.

By the end of the week I felt a connection with Ericeria because of how welcome they made me feel.

I would recommend to all abilities due to Rui’s expert coaching and knowledge.

Whether you are there for the surf, yoga, food, adventure, Seakrew are the right company for you!

This experience was a perfect blend of incredible waves, warm company, and a shared love for the ocean. What truly set this camp apart was Rui who has an amazing heart and was really patient and sharing. It felt less like a vacation and more like a family.

My boyfriend and I both beginners in surfing booked a surf camp with Sea Krew in Ericeira at the end of October for 4 classes. First of all, during this 4 days we developed as great fundamental technical skills of surfing, as well as solid theoretical understanding about the waves structure and nature. But what made this days absolutely special is the personal approach to each of us from our coach Rui with a motivation boost and a right degree of challenge. This experience was much beyond the surfing skills, but a deep dive into the surfing culture, experiencing the local life and opportunity for self-interconnection and exploration through the contact with ocean and people. Special thanks should be said to Magda for the personal care and consideration of all possible nuances which makes this experience unforgettable.

Last but not least, it is an amazing collaboration between Sea Krew and GIG hostel, with cozy and clean rooms and delicious restaurant.

Our absolute recommendation to anyone who wants to develop their surfing skills! 🏄‍♀️🏄‍♂️

First off Rui from Sea Krew is that dude that becomes part of the family. He is the long lost brother you never knew you had. He not only knows how to teach surf lessons, but he also gives you the experience of Portugal and surf culture. His groups are small and the sessions are very personal. For Sea Krew it's not about the numbers but more of the experience. We met people from

different ends of the world. When we arrived the weather wasn't the best and the waves were to strong for my surf level. Rui called an audible and took my son and I surf skating. My son had the best time of his life and it was the best day of the trip. Afterwards, Rui took us to a local sandwich shop that has been open for several generations. Old school style with amazing sandwiches. The next day the weather improved and he took us to the beach to catch some waves. I loved that his number one priority is safety first. He could not reiterate it enough. Rui makes sure everyone is safe, aware, and having fun. Rui doesn't stick to one beach. He took us to several beaches in close proximity and each is one was better than the last. Rui and Sea Krew went above and beyond to make sure our experience was special and memorable. I highly recommend Sea Krew to anyone who doesn't want to feel like just a number in a factory of surfers. Moving forward everytime my famly and I are in Portugal, Rui will be the only person we contact for surfing. Thank you Rui and Sea Krew myself and my family appreciate you.

Rui and his Team are super motivated and eager to Provide you a perfect stay, great hospitality, Good Organisation/Communication right from the beginning! Transport was easy, the place to stay nice and clean! Rui makes you feel safe in the water and has a great way of mentoring and Helping you to become a better Surfer. Next time SeaKrew again! The whole trip was so much fun while also being well organized and safe. Rui is so genuine and has the ability to adapt the sessions to every persons level. He also cured my fear of tall waves. In addition to it being fun and exciting, we learned so much and the progress we made in four days was incredible. Rui and his wife Magda were an amazing team and helped us with everything, even finding accommodation for one more night when we had to change our flight.

This has been a really one of a kind experience, and I would recommend it to everyone no matter what surf level you’re at.

It was really great experience getting to know how to surf, especially with Rui. He is supportive and professional throughout all the process. Coach was giving all the essentials to start surfing. We visited local bars, some authentic cafes and that was one the best foods I have ever had. Rui also showed some surf competitions that was held at the time being there. From knowing nothing, to standing on the surf board after the lessons is all I can say - amazing. Special Kudos to Magda for such a great and warm hospitality. 🤙

Rui is an exceptional instructor for progressing from beginner to intermediate. I was fortunate enough to have 4 private sessions with him, which allowed me to learn a great deal. His communication is clear, and he knows how to take you to the best surf spots, not just the popular ones in Ericeira. I highly recommend him!

From the first interaction to the last farewell, my friend and I had an amazing surfing experience. Rui was an awesome instructor. He was attentive and even organized a mini trip to a surf production facility. It was great. Very much recommended.

Rui is the most confident swimmer you’ll find, when you’re in the water with him, you’re 100% safe!

With his knowledge and experience you’re bound to learn how to surf, as long as you’re having fun and do it with an opened mind.

The location of GIG is just too good to be true as it’s in the heart of Ericiera!

Surfing

I booked 5 days of surfing with Rui. I started without any previous knowledge and at the end I was able to paddle out to the sea alone and surf the green waves there. Rui is a very experienced surfer who has an incredible feeling for the right surf spot. He also prefers to choose sandy beaches. The lessons take place in a small group so that Rui has the time to look after everyone personally. Another plus point was that he used the trips to our destinations to show us local bars and cafes. The atmosphere with Rui and the other participants was very pleasant throughout. And on the last few days, some very nice photos were taken that were well worth seeing.

About the accommodation

I think that the GiG Hostel is a very good hostel. Very clean, organized, well laid out, very good location. The management team around Gonçalo are also very friendly and are always available to answer questions by phone. They are also on site every day to clean or take care of organizational matters in the hostel.

Ich schreibe selten Bewertungen, aber hier muss ich einfach: Wenn du surfen lernen willst, book RUI! Er hat mehr als 30 Jahre Erfahrung, er kann das Meer genaustens lesen und gibt dir alle Tipps einfach erklärt, die du brauchst. Bei jeder Surfstunde ist er uns beim Hostel abholen gekommen und wir fuhren 15-20min an den optimalsten Spot des Tages - gute Wellen, wenig Leute und keine Steine im Meer a.k.a. „secret places“!!!

Ich fühlte mich allgemein sehr gut Aufgehoben bei Rui. Er ist super authentisch&offen, voller Energie und nimmt sich teilweise sogar noch nach der Lektion Zeit, um dir ein cooles Restaurant zu zeigen. Er liebt seine Tätigkeit und man fühlt wie er sein ganzes Herzblut gibt, dass du einen tollen Aufenthalt hast!

Small groups with a ratio of at least 6 to 1 resulted in excellent beginner coaching from super helpful and friendly Rui and his team. We were transported to the best surf spots up the coast and even had stops at super local spots for coffee and to savour some genuine Portuguese culture. If/when I return to friendly Portugal, I would return to Rui.

Rui is a fantastic teacher. We’d thoroughly recommend a surf camp with him. Great location for lessons - in Porto Nuevo - with all the kit and tuition provided in a small group. We also had daily yoga sessions. The Well hotel in Porto Nuevo was ideal - incredible breakfasts in particular.

Rui is an excellent teacher and put a huge amount of effort into encouraging my son and building his confidence.

We were blown away by the hospitality and welcome from Rui and his wife who personally picked us up in Lisbon and dropped us off at the airport after our 3 day stay in Ericeira. Such wonderful people! During the surf instruction, Rui proved to be incredibly knowledgeable and adapted his teaching style to fit the needs of our group. He helped one in our group catch her first wave while attending to different skill levels. 10/10 would recommend! The location blew us away as well!

Rui will go above and beyond to make sure you have a packed surfing and surfskate adventure, whilst also teaching all the correct techniques using his vast experience. His knowledge is incredible. Very friendly, super nice dude, funny and so accommodating. Learnt a lot from him and will be back next season. Legend!

I loved the 1:1 surfing experience with Rui who has wealth of knowledge of the area and could alsways find a decent spot to surf.

He went the extra mile to host me and it was an amazing expereince!
