Nestled in a tropical garden of native trees and wildlife, the spacious villas and rooms provide the perfect environment to relax after a day of surfing, including the comforts of modern amenities such as air-conditioning and hot water.
The Shaka communal area, an open-air palm-roofed rancho, is also an ideal place to unwind in a hammock until you’re ready to paddle out again. Whether you're a solo traveller or coming with a family member, loved one, or your best mates, you'll find our accommodations spacious enough to suit your needs.

Programme
Surf lessons are typically scheduled in the morning or afternoon, depending on your level and the tide. A typical day at Shaka Surf Camp usually follows this flow:
- 06:00 or 08:00 Surf class
- 07:30 or 09:00 Pre or post surf snack
- 10:30 Well-deserved brunch
- 12:00 Yoga
- Afternoon -
- 1.30 or 3 pm can be surf lesson - if no Chill time optional outside activities
- 18:30 Dinner
Lieu
Shaka Surf Camp is ideally located in Playa Hermosa, just a few minutes’ walk from a beautiful, uncrowded surf break. Nearby, you’ll find a handful of cozy cafés, a yoga shala, local restaurants, and small grocery stores. For more variety, the lively town of Santa Teresa is only 10 minutes away by car or ATV, offering a wide range of dining, shopping, and wellness options.

At Shaka Surf Camp, all meals are included with your stay, lovingly prepared by our in-house chef, Harry, using fresh, local ingredients.
Morning snack: Start the day light and healthy with fresh fruit and granola.
Brunch: Enjoy a hearty Costa Rican brunch after your morning surf session, with favorites like gallo pinto, omelettes, breakfast bagels, banana pancakes, and more.
Dinner: Delight in daily specials featuring fresh fish, poultry, meats, and locally sourced vegetables.
Shaka Surf Camp is happy to accommodate most dietary needs if informed at booking (please note: full keto options are not available).On Saturday evenings, the kitchen is closed—giving you a perfect opportunity to explore the amazing local restaurants. Recommendations for local favorites are happily provided upon request.

Arrival by airplane
Fly into either San José International Airport (SJO) or Liberia International Airport (LIR). From there, you can take a domestic flight to Cobano Airport, which is about a 25-minute flight. Once in Tambor, Shaka Surf Camp is approximately a 30 to 45-minute drive. Shaka Surf Camp can help you arrange a taxi or shuttle from the airport.
Arrival by shuttle
Shared or private shuttles are available from both San José and Liberia. The trip takes about 5 to 6 hours, including a scenic ferry ride from Puntarenas to Paquera if coming from San José, or about a 5-hour drive from Liberia.
Arrival by car
You can rent a car at either airport. A 4x4 vehicle is highly recommended, especially during the rainy season. For easy navigation, use Google Maps or Waze and enter "Shaka Surf Camp Playa Hermosa." They are located about 10 minutes north of Santa Teresa.
