Alojamiento
The boat is fully air-conditioned, has a water maker, and is equipped with all modern navigational and safety equipment. Guest accommodation includes two double bed private cabins, eight single bunks, and two double beds. There are two bathrooms / toilets with hot and cold showers. Additionally, there are three deck levels, guest accommodation lower hull level, saloon, and galley on main deck and bridge deck level, wheelhouse, and deck area.
Programa
Once you have left the aircraft, got your visa on arrival, and cleared customs, you can then collect your luggage and go to the exit where someone will be waiting for you and transfer you and your boards to the boat or a hotel to relax until departure time. Your surfboards will go directly to the boat. The boat usually departs about 6 p.m. depending on your flight arrivals and also Crystal Clear's provisioning. You will steam overnight and try to arrive at the first surf spot at dawn if the weather permits.
Before you leave the port, you will have a group meeting. You will be given a welcome and safety speech by the captain or surf guide and also you and the Crystal Clear team will discuss the surf factoring in weather conditions, swell size, the location of other boats, etc. The areas are world-class surfing areas, with a wide range of different surf breaks for all levels of surfing.
Itinerary
There are two different trips, one is to the Mentawai islands in and out of Padang.
The second is to the Tello, Nias, Hinako and Banyak Islands in and out of Padang.
All these islands are about 80 kilometers off the west coast of Sumatra.
The itinerary is flexible because the group needs to take into account the different conditions for the waves you will be surfing, wind, swell direction, tides, other surfers, etc.
So before the group departs Padang, there will be a team meeting and Michael, your guide, will explain the different options and what he thinks is best then the group can make a plan based on the passengers' input and his experience and off you go.
Instructores
Michael Matthew
Michael has 28 years experience in this area so he knows the area very well, for all the different conditions. He lives in Padang with his wife and 4 children. He will on every trip and also will help you in the surf with info about how the wave breaks, where best to take off, what the reef/beach is like and what to watch out for while surfing. He also will surf with you and give you pointers in the surf if you need it.
Ubicación
Sumatra is an island in Western Indonesia and the islands of Sumatra are an incredible surfing destination with remarkable consistency and quality. A boat trip in Sumatra is a dream come true for any surfer. There are great waves, beautiful scenery, and more great waves. The area is so packed full of top-quality waves that you will not believe just how good it is.
The area is also a major swell magnet. There are waves for every standard and style of surfing ranging from fast shallow barreling waves with deep barrels to long cruisey walls with rippable faces. There are waves in this area year-round. However, the most ideal time to surf this area is from March to November because of the southern hemisphere winter when the Indian Ocean is an active groundswell producing the machine.
