Freeride Tarifa has the best options to plan your holidays and forget about unexpected bad surprises. You are offered a stay in a surf house at the best price guaranteed but they can also offer you various options in case you prefer a private room, a high standing hotel, or an apartment, so do not hesitate to specify your wishes.
This modern and minimalist surf house is based at the entrance of Tarifa close to the seaside, only a 10-minute walk from Balneario beach where you will find nice beach bars to rest after your kite session, (this beach is reserved for bathers in the summertime) and a five-minute car ride from the main kite spot, Los Lances beach. In this surf house, rates include bed and breakfast.
All the rooms have bunk beds and safety lockers with access to a large shared bathroom. This place is perfect for solo travelers that would like to meet other kitesurf lovers. You will also find commune areas such as an equipped kitchen, salons with television and billiards, a cafeteria-bar, a rooftop with a sea view, and free Wi-Fi throughout the building. Other services are also available, such as bike/motorbike rental, and laundry.
The communal kitchen is equipped with a fridge, microwaves, toaster, dishes, cutlery and cooking utensils, coffee machine, and washing machines. You will also find many shops (sports and food) around the property and with a 15 to 20-minute walk, you will get to the old town of Tarifa where the nightlife takes place with a wide range of tapas bars, nightclubs, and amazing restaurants.
Programma
Your classes are supervised by IKO / FAV certified instructors, two students per instructor, each with their own kite as you progress. You will learn kite control, body drag, waterstart, and also enjoy your first rides! During your week in Tarifa and depending on the availability, you will benefit from one session of three hours of classes per day or two sessions of two hours of kite a day separated by a lunch break.
You will be equipped with radio headsets to correct you in real time and to evolve more quickly in your practice. At your own pace, you will learn the basics of kiting safely. You will taste the incredible sensations of the freedom of kitesurfing so that when you return back home, you have only one desire, continue to kitesurfing and return to Tarifa!
During kitesurfing course with Freeride Tarifa, all the needed gear is included with brand new Naish kiteboarding equipment (kite, board, harness, life jacket, and a helmet with a radio headset) as well as rescue boats and accident and liability insurance. At the end of your kitesurfing course, you will get an IKO (International Kiteboarding Organization) certificate sent by email so you can prove your level in any part of the world.

Kitesurf
In case the lesson can't take place due to bad meteorological conditions, customers can choose to be refunded for the proportional part for the kitesurf lessons (the price will be re-adjusted according to the price list) or get a voucher to come back again.

Olivier Negrel
Olivier Negrel is the founder of Freeride Tarifa. After years of traveling the globe and kitesurfing along all the best coasts, he has decided to set up a school, Freeride Tarifa, in the most famous European kite spot, Tarifa. Olivier is a professional kitesurfing teacher for more than 10 years with IKO certifications (first and second level) since 2008/2009 and a Spanish kitesurf instructor certified since 2007.
Locatie
Tarifa is a fortified village in the south of Spain. It’s located within the province of Cadiz in Andalusia.
Tarifa is situated between the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean. Its unique location provides it with a beautiful blend of Spanish and Arabic cultures. It’s one of the most scenic villages in Andalusia and is well regarded as a kitesurfer’s paradise.
Tarifa is surrounded by four protected natural areas Los Alcornocales Natural Park, El Estrecho Natural Park, Playa de Los Lances, and Duna de Bolonia. Expect to see cows chilling, flocks of storks flying, and plenty of other interesting fauna and flora on land. With endless stretches of sandy beaches and plenty of nature areas, Tarifa is a hub for all sorts of watersports and the perfect place for nature lovers.
There are two main spots to choose depending on the wind conditions, Los Lances and Valdevaqueros. When the wind condition is really powerful, the main spot is Palmones beach in Algeciras.

You will find a lot of chiringuitos nearby the spots where you will have your lessons to refuel yourself with a sandwich or main meal. In the center of Tarifa, you could also find supermarkets and tapas bar restaurants, for an Andalusian dinner.

Arrival by airplane
Many airlines fly to the airports of Malaga, Seville, Jerez de la Frontera, or Gibraltar and most flights are direct. The main airlines are Easyjet, Ryanair, Monarch and British Airways. The distance from Málaga Airport (AGP) to Tarifa is 1 hour and 45 minutes, 2 hours and 30 minutes from Séville Airport (SVQ), 1 hour and 15 minutes from Jerez de la Frontera / Jerez Airport (XRY), and 40 minutes from Gibraltar International Airport (GIB).
Driving directions from Malaga or Gibraltar
- From Malaga or Gibraltar, highway until Algéciras (15 minutes from Tarifa), then follow the direction Tarifa-Cadiz.
Driving directions from Seville or Jerez de la Frontera
- From Seville or Jerez de la Frontera, take the highway in the direction of Cadiz.
- Before arriving in Cadiz, follow the highway (A48) in the direction of Algéciras.
- The highway ends in Vejer De la Frontera (25 minutes from Tarifa), then follow the direction Algéciras-Tarifa.
