Kubu Surf School

I had an amazing experience at this surf camp and honestly couldn’t have asked for a better time. From the very first day, the whole team made me feel welcome, supported, and part of the surf family. The instructors were professional, patient, and always encouraging, which helped me improve my surfing while having so much fun at the same time. The atmosphere was relaxed, positive, and full of great energy every day. I also really appreciated how friendly and helpful everyone was, both in and out of the water. Thank you to the entire team for creating such unforgettable memories. I truly enjoyed every moment and would absolutely recommend this surf camp to anyone looking for an incredible experience!

I was looked after so well by the staff at rumah canaria bungalows, shoutout to lovely Reni and my surfing teacher Yan! Had 3 beginner lessons which were challenging for me but also very fun, I wish I could’ve had more time to practice but there’s always a next time. The accommodation was lovely and free breakfast was fab, the free bike use was great for getting around quick! Also the adorable cat that lives there and became my bestie!

The instructor Wayan and his friend were very kind, friendly and warm. They helped us pick up the skills required very quickly and took good care of us. Also the location was mindblowing.

Everything from the check in until the check out was perfect. They received me with a big smile, water and great vibes. Reni and Nona at the reception are very friendly and welcoming always smiling and helping in anyway as well as having great conversations, I learned a lot of the local life with them. At the hotel every member is always smiling and sharing their great energy, I enjoyed a lot spending time there and chatting with them, playing music and sharing nice moments.

The surf lessons are incredible, instructors are very helpful and care a lot about your experience and performance, I learned a lot and improved my surfing in these days having fun in and out of the water with Mega, Angga, uncle and all the rest. The breakfast is exquisite and very complete with fruit, coffee, eggs or pancakes and very good vibes, the best for me was the massage on the last day wit Nona, she is surly becoming a pro in it and was the perfect way to spend my last day at Rumah Canaria. The yoga classes are not in the same location but are in a nearby yoga place with amazing views and are very professional, the instructor Yoga is very charming and professional.

It was overall a great experience and the island is beautiful to explore, also they give you bike so don’t rent one before, I almost did and then realized I had one included with my package.

Really nice people that watch out for the well-being of their guests. Nonik and Reni look out for you and will suggest good places to eat or activities that you can do on Gili. Every time I wanted to get a coffee or a water, Nonik and Reni offered coffee or a water with a smile. The Breakfast was also really good and everyone on the team really looked out for me. Every night the team invited me and the other guests to sing songs with the guitar or to drink and snack. Dex and Wayang were great surf coaches that really helped me get better with surfing. I really saw advancements and it was always great fun to go surfing with Dex and Wayang. On one day we even went to Sengiggi on Lombok, to catch new waves (where I also had the chance to try a new board) and eat at a great Warung. All in all I can really recommend this surf camp to everyone as the team is super welcoming, the activities (Yoga and Fly-High Yoga) are a great experience, you'll get better at surfing and meet really nice people along the way!

Great surfing retreat, the staff is amazing! Remi, Nona, Wayan and Mega are so welcoming and friendly. Made it feel like second home. I even extended my stay a week! Instructors were very specific with their teaching and made it easy to correct mistakes while surfing. Definitely recommend.

The vibe here is just class! Everyone was super friendly and welcoming. they even helped me get back my pillow that I forgot after leaving. The surf lessons were brilliant: I tried different boards, the spot wasn’t crowded, and I even saw turtles while surfing 🐢. The instructors gave great posture corrections that helped me finally start catching waves on a hard board!

The rooms were lovely, AC worked perfectly, and the showers were great, clean, comfortable, and just what you need after a surf session. Breakfast was wonderful (the scrambled eggs are amazing!), and they organised everything for my trip from and back to Bali including a reliable driver.

Evenings were the best chilled guitar music and good vibes to end the day.

I couldn’t recommend this surf camp more if you want genuine surfing energy, great people, and an unforgettable experience. 🌊🤙 also, they give you bikes to go around the island and that made me discover wonderful places

From start to finish my stay in Rumah Canaria in Gili T was amazing. Nona at reception is the loveliest person ever, she gives the best recommendations for food spots and other activities in the day when i wasn't surfing and she was always on hand if i needed anything. Gili T surfing is so much fun with perfect waves, Wayan my surf instructor, went completely above and beyond, he was brilliant in the surf helping me to get onto a hard long board on my 3rd lesson! He also took me snorkelling and showed me delicious local food for lunch. Although this camp wasn't super sociable, it meant i got to spend more time with my instructors, Wayan and Alphin, and with the locals which made my experience so much more enriching. I can't wait to come back !!

I chose this surf camp to help me transition from a longboard to a shortboard, and I’m so glad I did! With the support and encouragement from Kadek, I was able to make the transition smoothly and even ride some decent waves. Kadek’s coaching style was motivating and personalised, which really helped me feel confident on a short board. While riding a wave I spotted a turtle on the wave next to me such a breath taking experience.

I was also traveling with a friend who is a beginner surfer, and this was her first time out on the waves. The camp was perfect for her as well—she had a blast learning the basics, and the instructors were incredibly patient and supportive. It was great to see her progress and catch some waves, too.

We were only supposed to stay for 3 days, however loved the camp so much we extended.

Overall, the camp provided an excellent balance of individual attention and group support. The vibe was friendly, welcoming, and fun, and I highly recommend it to surfers at any level.

The team were so lovely. Mega and Wayan were wonderful. We went out for a day trip to Lombok which was the best day of surfing we’ve ever had. Learnt so much. Accom was great too.

I had an incredible time at Kubu Surf Camp! I extended 2 extra days because I didn’t want the experience to end. The instructors were fantastic—super knowledgeable, patient, and fun, making the whole experience enjoyable and safe. The instructors made sure to provide a surfboard that matched my skill level. They are also very knowledgeable of the local surf spots and make sure to choose the time of day with the best conditions possible. I am very pleased to say my surfing level progressed during this surf camp because of all the coaching and feedback. The location in Gili T, is incredible. I felt like I was surfing in paradise. The accommodations were comfortable, the food was delicious, and the overall vibe was laid-back yet professional. Not to mention the local people from Lombok are so welcoming. Whether you're just starting out or looking to refine your technique, Kubu is the place for an unforgettable surf adventure!

I found the whole Gilli T experience to be excellent. The accommodation and staff were fantastic, they really went out of their way to make us feel special and welcomed. Mega, the surf instructor, was a great teacher and was able to relate to all levels of experience. I was surprised of the quality of wave on Gilli T. There isn't a big selection of surf spots, but what was on offer catered for all levels of surfer. I would certainly go back and stay on Gilli T.

I had a fantastic stay in Gili Trawangan. Wayan and Amine at the surf camp were very kind and welcoming and were always about at the camp, which created a very friendly atmosphere. They were also able to offer advice on excursions/ things to do etc. Surf lessons with Mega were exceptional. We were taken to different spots dependent on conditions and the waves were very uncrowded - at times it was just myself and a couple of other surf camp members present. Surf lessons were in the morning but I was able to add extra surf lessons in the afternoon if the conditions allowed and we also had the option to use the surf boards after our lesson. Mega split up the group, taking members of the surf school at different times. I appreciated the small groups and I even had solo lessons multiple times, so I had loads of personalised feedback and my surfing definitely improved. I also appreciated that Mega organised my transport to Kuta, Lombok after the camp, which was very helpful. I ended up extending my time in Gili T and will hopefully come back again!

I loved the cozy bungalow, especially the outdoor bathroom/shower, and hammock, all perfect for relaxing and escaping the bustle. The AC really made a big difference, as without it the bungalow was hotter than outside!

The surfing was great fun, even though it was quite calm I think I still caught a decent number of waves. And while waiting for the waves, you might spot a turtle coming up for air!

All the staff and surf team were good fun and helpful with sorting out issues or recommending spots on the island, and were always chill to chat to and share coffee and stories with. Thank you all for such a great stay!

I loved the location, it was peaceful but still pretty easy to get to by bike or walking.

Of course lets not forget Gary Chocolate the cat, grasshopper-hunter supreme, who might steal your beanbag, beware.

The rooms and the pool area are really nice and comfortable. You‘ve got a variety of meals to choose from and they are all very delicious. The staff is very nice and helpful. Especially the surflessons were pretty amazing, the surfteacher Wawan really focused on my/our level of surfing and chose the places to surf at based on our level. Because we were not that many people in the camp, he really focused on each and everyone and I felt like I could really practice a lot. If you want to focus on your surfskills and just chill out for a couple of days Kubu Surfschool/ Makarma Resort in Senggigi is the perfect spot to do that.

It was my first surfing experience and i'm pretty amazed how things went well. Mega is a super teacher, patient, cool and he always communicate in a positive and fun way. The surfing spot is beautiful, perfect for beguinners like me. Beside the surf, what is the most valuable is the people who runs the bungalows and make sure you fell well and welcomed. Thanks to Amine, Dewa, Wayan and of course Mega for your dedication, your kindness, your cool reggae vibes. You are the soul of this place. Our experience with you will stay in our hearts forever. I liked pretty much everything about my little surfcamp experience. All the people are so nice and helpful, you can have a great chat with them or a little evening jam session. The bungalows are pretty basic, but I loved the cozy vibes with the shower under the stars. And surfing itself was really cool too, Mega our surf teacher does an amazing job and really looks out for you.

The staff is very nice and the place is very well-kept. You are around 15 minutes bicycle away from the surf spot, the spot is good but the surf conditions might not be good all the time and they don't have a lot of other options. They give you a bike to move around which is a moat in Gili T you also get free breakfast and water refills.

The surf lessons were adapted to the weather conditions and the skills of the participants. In three days I developed a lot (had surfed only twice before) both in physical technique and in reading and catching waves. Kadek really wants you to succeed and develop and have a good time! The surf lessons vary a lot in starting time and length. You will get the time on the day before. We had a sunrise surf session one day, it was great! It was also possible to keep surfing without the instructor, using Kubu's boards, which was really nice.

The bungalow (I had one for myself, with AC) was super nice, small but really cosy, and the outdoor bathroom was also real nice. The staff hanged around most of the time and played guitar or took care of the place, and were eager to interact and hang out. I could also borrow the guitar and that was great 😊 the staff also really wanted to help out with everything from booking a massage, making dinner or arranging day trips.

It's in a "local" neighbourhood. Far from party music and drink people - yeay! - and within biking distance from other parts of Gili T.

Het was een mega leuke ervaring, de mensen van Ruma Canaria (de accommodatie) waren heel aardig en behulpzaam, hierdoor voelde het als thuiskomen deze 7 dagen. Het surfen was leuk, ondanks dat de golven niet altijd even goed te surfen waren. En de yoga was geweldig! Verder vond ik het heel fijn dat ik genoeg vrije tijd ook had om mijn eigen ding te doen. En het eiland was heel leuk, genoeg plekken om heen te gaan en te chillen of te snorkelen.

Learning how to surf in Gili Trawangan with Kubu Surf School was an incredible experience!

The 4 surf lessons with Herman were great. He is a sensational surf instructor & he was able to teach me a lot in a short time. 🏄🏼‍♀️

The accommodation Rumah Canaria has everything you need; delicious breakfast, nice rooms & very friendly staff which are always there to help. The highlight at Rumah Canaria were the chill evenings with guitar playing and singing. 🎶

The overall package was amazing and I would recommend Kubu Surf School to anyone who wants to learn to surf. 🤙🏼

BUNGALOW: As Gili T is a small island, the location was not too hard to find. The bungalows are located very close to Turtle Point, and going to surf is just a short bike ride away. Kubu Surf School provided everything - from a bicycle, to surf gear, to homemade meals every day. Each bungalow is very quiet and privately air-conditioned, with a separate outdoor bathroom (hot shower & toilet included). Because of the mosquitos on Gili T, they also provide a great mosquito net over the bed.

Best of all were the staff! They took great care of me when I got sick from something I ate before arriving on Gili T. Dewa was always there to cook family-style dinners, and he made sure everyone in the bungalows felt welcome and at home. You have to try Dewa's famous banana pancakes! Wayan plays guitar very well and everyone in the bungalows had a lovely night singing after dinner. Herman was very kind and made multiple trips to the shops to fetch Pocari Sweat and peppermint oil for me when I was too tired to leave my room.

SURFING: Although I can't attest to the surfing personally as I was sick during my stay, I know that the people at the bungalows who did go surfing said that they loved their lessons. Sergei from Ukraine took one lesson with Herman and was able to stand up in his first class!

Staying here was such a nice surprise as I really didn’t know what I booked. I stayed here for 5 days 4 nights and did 4 surf lessons. the accommodations were great and I can’t say enough about how helpful all of the staff were, especially Dewa. The whole staff were there to greet me when I checked in, answer any questions I had about Gili, and immediately make amazing food recommendations nearby. I ended up going to two of those places twice in two days since they were so good. They helped me with my return boat ride at a much better price than was available on Lombok. Breakfast each morning was made fresh just for me when I woke up. I will definitely be back and stay with them very soon.

The surf lessons each morning were also great. I made great progress each day even coming in as an intermediate surfer. By the last day I was turning easily and catching the bigger waves as the sun set.

I highly recommend both the accommodation and the surfing lessons.

The accommodation super nice and got free breakfast each day, it was run by a lovely family that were all super helpful. Our surf instructor Herman was also really friendly and allowed us to move from foamies to hardboard’s quickly which we were happy about. The surf spot was super quiet so we could catch loads of waves and we loved all the sunset surfs! We got transported to and from our surf lessons each day and were super grateful for the massage that was included after so much paddling.

It was an extraordinary experience to take part in Kubu surf school. The accommodation was 10/10, beautiful brand new Bungalow, with amazing outdoor bathroom. This is the most comfortable bed I've slept in the last 6 months of backpacking in South East Asia, very friendly staff and a great breakfast.

Herman and Kadek were brilliant teacher, he managed to help me and I improved a lot. Waves were perfect for beginners and intermediate, and the best part is not crowded sea. Very comfortable to learn, and so many turtles everywhere!

Bikes and snorkel gear are also a great bonus to have!

I loved the jamming sessions at night time, the staffs cooked bbq fish and invite all the guests.

I didn’t wanted to leave!

Die kleine charmante Anlage liegt ruhig im Inneren der Insel, alles ist sehr sauber und es wird täglich gereinigt.

Die Jungs im Camp kümmern sich um alles. Abends sitzt man zusammen und spielt Gitarre. Die Stimmung ist sehr entspannt und familiär.

The staff (Firman, Faycal, Wayan and Gede) was amazing and made my stay as good as possible.

The location is amazing, the little cottage was super comfortable, anything you may need is provided, and the outdoor shower is just pure bliss. Watching the moon, with flowers towering over your head, and palm trees in the distance is pretty cool. ✨

Very friendly staff at the accommodation, helped us out for transport in the area and made vegan food possible (not a big variety, but still good); the surf instructor and lessons were really great, we had an instructor for ourselves and he gave clear instructions and was super knowledgable about the waves and surfing technique

I had the most amazing week here living at Rumah Canaria, and improving my surfing at Kubu Surf School (and also yoga at Sunset Beach Yoga). Jenni, Kadek, Faris, and Yoga (a namesake serendipity)--and my neighbors, and all the people I met there (happy birthday again, Agung!)--were all lovely folks who took incredible care of me, and made sure I had a fun and fulfilling time.

Waking up in the early morning to hit the waves with Kadek was one of the best ways to start one's day. After, Faris would prepare delicious and nutritious breakfast (you can choose either toasted bread and eggs, or banana pancake :-). Yoga was great at guiding practitioners of different levels through--you guessed it--yoga. And though I didn't get to try aerial yoga this time because I prioritized rejuvenating Desha Spa's Lombok massage over it, it certainly looks fun and I'll be there next time for sure!

Jenni, Kadek's partner, is one of the most warm and welcoming people you'll ever meet. She, along with Kadek and Faris, are so thoughtful, and made my stay really memorable. I'm excited to go back home but I'm also eager to return to Gili Trawangan, sooner rather than later!

Es war super schön und sehr familiär dort von der 1. Minute an. Es gibt dort nur 4 schnuckelige Bungalows mit Freiluftbad und einem Ventilator. Abends sitzt man zusammen bei der Gitarre, singt, isst und trinkt gemeinsam, wenn man möchte. Alle waren sehr hilfsbereit und wir haben den, leider zu kurzen, Aufenthalt sehr genossen.

Der Surfkurs war auch mega. Der Kurs findet in kleinen Gruppen statt, je nach Level. Am ersten Tag waren wir alleine, weil wir noch nie surfen waren, aber bei der zweiten Stunde waren wir zu Dritt.

Absolut empfehlenswert!

Very hospitable and friendly staff. We had a great surfing instructor as well who was supportive and helped us to progress our skills even further. Would highly recommend this place for anyone who wants to learn to surf and get into a real surfing atmosphere. Breakfast was great and we really enjoyed the banana pancakes!

Instructeur Anet heeft me naast het surfen nog mee op tour genomen en we hebben nog gechillt op t strand. We hadden wat pech met de golven op dag dat we wilde starten maar we hebben extra lessen gedaan op de andere dagen. Anet was erg flexibel.

I stayed in this beautiful place a few days and every day was totally worth it.

The Bungalow had one big comfy bed in it and a fan, so good nights & good sleep. Outside there is the private bathroom, so you can shower and poop under the stars:). In front of the bungalow were a very comfy hammock and some chairs, so enough place to chill. The social area has some sweet details, and they have also bikes there. You can really feel, that Faris, Kadek and Jenni want you to feel welcome. Especially Faris took care of everybody, he is really kind and will make you feel like home. My whole stay was pretty personal and I felt good all the time. I made some great surf lessons there, had good breakfast and met some lovely people. Soo do yourself a favor and stay there:))

The stuff was so nice! Breakfast was great. We really loved our stay here, and if we go to Gili Trawangan again we definitely want to come back. Surfing at this point for begginers is a great spot, because it’s nobody there.

Hemos estado muy bien acogidas, y en las clases de surf con Kadek me he sentido con una gran confianza para mis primeras lecciones de surf. Ya en la primera clase me subí en la tabla!

Das Surfcamp besteht aus mehreren kleinen Bungalows und alle können sich in der offenen Küche zum frühstücken etc. treffen. Die Menschen dort sind extrem lieb und sorgen sich darum, dass man einen schönen Aufenthalt hat. Ich kann das Surfcamp nur empfehlen. Auch das Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis ist top.

We really enjoyed our stay and the surf lessons a lot. In general we were 2 up to 3 people and therefore improved a lot during our 4 days of surfing lessons.

Kadek is a good instructor and also super friendly and open-hearted. We can totally recommend this surfcamp.

The surf camp was great and we liked Kadek a lot. The bungalows were rustic but comfortable.

We were three people with different levels of surf experience and Dex was able to guide us all, and tailor his recommendations and help to our individual needs. We came to the surfschool in January and the tide was perfect. The team at Kubu are overall very lovely and welcoming people. They were helpful to our every need during the surf lessons, but also at the surf accomodation.

It was the first time for us serving. Sec was very helpful, told the basics and navigated during three days. He has also provided us with additional t-shirts and pans, as I got burned during the first day.

After three days, I feel like I will be able to rent a surf and continue learning by myself ❤️ Huge thanks one more time ✨🌊✨

Dex is a fabulous host and a great surf instructor. I felt like my skill set has increased dramatically and I have much better situational awareness of how I can keep improving from here on out. Dec is also very flexible, trying to work with you to achieve your surf goals alongside balancing your holiday. You not only get surf instruction but a tour guide that is passionate about the island he loves. Dex was helpful in organising transport (taxi/ cycling ) and providing local knowledge that you never knew you needed . I have been to a couple surf camps and this one really stood out for me. Everything was organised and the gear is provided and good quality (surfboard/ leash / booties/ rash guards). I loved the accomodation in Gili , showering in private under the palm trees and stars is one hell of a way to end the day.

Kadek is a very good instructor and chill dude. He will help you step by step to learn the correct technique of surfing. He gives you good Furthermore, his English is of a good level which is very helpful during the lessons.

Besides the lessons the stay was perfect. I stayed at a small bungalow park. It has a cozy setting. In the morning you will be surprised with the best banana pancake I have ever had. In addition, they help you with everything. So if you need anything they always help you.

We loved the familar feeling at the accomomodation - we arrived as strangers and left as friends. Dex and his wife aswell as Faris, they made us feel welcomed and took care so nice! One night they organised a traditional bbq and another night they showed us around the bars of the island - we appreciated it a lot. The accomodation was very basic but with a lot of lovely details and for us it was more than enough.

The surflession with Dex were a highlight eventough we were bloody beginners. You could feel Dex‘ passion for surfing every second and it was contagious. We felt well introduced to the sport and safe. We would totally reccomend booking the package and will for sure come back.

The guys are really nice and the place is lovely.

Faris and Arman were absolutely incredibly. Faris' breakfast that he cooked us every morning was 10/10, he was a great conversationist and we really enjoyed sitting there on the table and chatting. By far, Alex and I's favourite part of Kubu Surf Camp was getting to know Faris and Arman. It has only been 2 days and we already miss it so much! If you decide to come to Kubu, please make the effort to get to know these two as they were some of the greatest people we've met on our trip. We hope to come back soon!

At first, we thought the location (being a little more inner Gili T and further away from the main street) was a little more inconvenient, but we became so happy with it because it meant we had to go through and explore streets that we definitely would not have if we just stayed in the tourist hotspot. It just made our experience so much better.

All the instructors were amazing! Very friendly and helpful. The bungalows on Gili Trawangan are beautiful!

Wayan & Arman were bloody awesome hosts. The surf was not great with windy conditions and small swell but these guys still made an awesome experience with plenty of things to do to like snorkeling which wasn't even included in the package. They go out of there way to look after you and make your stay as enjoyable as possible. Although the surf was a bit below my expectations they still managed to get two rookies surfing within minutes of paddling out so I highly recommend for beginner surfers.

Staff and instructors were very nice!

Many people come here and stay just for a few days. With my wife, we stayed for 10 days. The vibes were amazing and we kind of fell in love with that cosy place. We were surfing every day and doing yoga every second. The nearest surf point, Pandawa beach, is just five minutes away (by bicycle). The boards are kept in the small restaurant there, so you just grab them and go catching the waves.

And the staff, they are really nice. Wayan is a living legend. With his friend Arman, they would do everything to make your stay amazing. They are both surfing instructors, as well.

We were like alone with Wayan and Arman who helped us with everything and were so lovely hosts!

The two young guys who where leading the school while Dex was away where great, friendly, easy going and great guys.

Dex is a great instructor. He greeted me from the very first day with a smile on his face. He’s full of positivity, very patience and helpful. You can tell he absolutely loves what he does as every day he was very excited by looking at the waves on the ocean. He helped me get up on the board on the first day and I was able to catch a wave on the third day. I hope to one day go back and have Dex as an instructor again. Muchas gracias!

Dex and the other staff were very professional, friendly, and helpful. I enjoyed surfing lessons everyday with them. The bungalow was clean and lovely. Location was good, close to the surf beach and the snorkeling beach. Very quiet and peaceful. Highly recommend for solo travelers and everyone. Definitely come back to here!!!

The instructors were good at teaching. The conditions were good and definitely improved my skills after 4 days.

We spent five days at the surf camp and had a absolut blast. Dex and his wife Jenny are super friendly and open. You can ask them anything and they will take very good care of you.

The surfing course was really good and Kadek did everything to get us on the board during the first lessen, and it actually worked!

The atmosphere was really nice and I felt instantly comfortable like at home.

It was like a little paradise and I didn't want to leave in the end.

The food at the in-house restaurant was amazing, and at a good price, as was the bar. Lots of guests tended to eat in-house so it was easy to meet other travellers and make friends.

So where to start?

Kadek is an an amazing person, probably the most positive person I have ever met. He truly wakes up everyday and says “it’s a beautiful day”. He wants everyone to succeed at surfing and he seems to get all beginners standing on their first day. Always reinforcing and keeping things positive. His wife Jenny is a delight and very hospitable. Wayan and Ari turned out to be my homies. We hung out everyday and sang songs and drank some beers. Went out to a cool reggae club, hung around the bungalows. It’s the vibe. You can’t manufacture it. It’s like a family and to me that’s what is the coolest.

All staff were so welcoming from the start and made us feel at home immediately. Dex was a superb instructor, showing amazing patience and persistence with us. The facilities were excellent and you really did feel like you were in paradise. I would strongly recommend this surf school to anyone!

Dex has created an absolutely wonderful little surfcamp togethers with his wife Jenny. You feel at home right away in the cozy little houses and the friendly atmosphere. Dexes brother Wayan is also there to help you, and always make sure you have a good time.

We loved the stay at the surf camp: professional surf lessons, the best live guitar music and singing, fresh juice and pancakes, bonfires, coconutharvest, snorkeling, chilling, and just the nicest people.

We highly recommend the surf camp to everyone, who would like to have an authentic and relaxed surf experience.

Words can’t even describe how amazing these 6 days of surfcamp were. With his enthusiasm and great surfing skills, Dex was able to transfer some of his surfer vibes to me and made me love this sport. Thanks to him I‘m now able to catch my own waves and am confident enough to rent a board and try to surf on beaches on my own. But it‘s not only the surfing that made this camp unforgettable, it‘s the people who live there. Dex‘ wife and brother offered me a place in which I felt like home from the first minute on. Beside the great breakfast and lovely talks with them, the accommodation itself is also super nice. Every bungalow has it‘s own private bathroom were you can see the palm trees while showering and a hammock in front of the door which is so cozy that I felt asleep on it.

Together we also went out for watching the sunset, jamming on the beach, getting dinner (and massages afterwards), going out and much more. So if you want to experience how it feels like to live in paradise with the loveliest people, book this camp and you will never regret it!

Wayan at the bungalows was very helpful escorting us to the beach by bicycle each day and making us breakfast. The waves were perfect for learning to surf.

The communication was great from the family running the bungalows . Very friendly , very accomodating . Bungalows better than expected . Clean tidy comfortable .Relaxed vibe at the surf spot and easy going guys .

You are not far away from the clubs and the main area (5-10 min with the bike)

But still far enough from all the noise.

The staff is amazingly friendly and the surf experience was also great.

The customer service was excellent!! The host, his name is Wayan, is very friendly and he help you every moment with your enquiries ( information, activities, trip, etc) and always has a big smile! The surf class were excellent! High quality! The packcage for the 6 days are super recommmendable, you can do that contact with the nature and forget about your routine!!

Our experience at Kubu surf was amazing! Dex was super responsive and helpful in getting us situated for the camp. The accommodations at Makarma Resort were tip top - Chan and the staff were so friendly and provided crucial support in helping us around Lombok. Our surf instructor, Herman, was a first class teacher. I had done a surf camp before and he helped me progress my skills to catching bigger left/right hander waves. My wife had never surfed a day in her life before this and by the end of her lessons with Herman she was able to catch her own waves. He was such a motivating teacher that we decided we wanted to keep progressing after surf camp and bought boards of our own on Lombok after our lessons.

I can’t recommend Kubu school enough! They make sure that the instructor to student ratio is low (1:2 to 1:4) so instruction is very personalized and you’ll never feel like classes are too crowded where you don’t have the attention you need in order to improve. Come train here and you’ll be on your way to catching the coveted barrel wave :)

Kadex went for vacation and the stand in instructor Ibenk was excellent. He's a dedicated person to me and my 3 daughters. He make sure all of us able to surf even on the 1st day itself and by the 3rd day we were able to catch our own wave. Really exciting if you are able to do everything yourself without assistance. It's tiring for him as my divas teenagers is not strong enough to paddle all the way out to the sea to catch surf but Ibenk pull one after the other out. Also not to forget the accommodation caretaker Wayan, very friendly, dedicated, he goes all out to make sure all your need is met and also play the guitar to keep you entertain. He treats you more like a friend then customers. I'm planning my next trip already.

Dex and Hermann were really good surf teachers and very helpful. I even enjoyed private lessons as I was the only one in the surf camp. It was easy to meet other people staying in the same accommodation though. Nice bungalow, outdoor pool and staff at the Markama. I went to the Gili trawangan accomonadation later which was really good. Very cute bungalows and it’s very quiet at night. Dex wife and brother are really sweet too. So really a good place to stay. I would definitely come back!

I love how friendly and kind the people around Gili Island. Dex Is an excellent instructor. He was very patient and easy going. He didn’t push us much knowing we’re first timers and he helped us get through the waves step by step. He’s very encouraging even when we keep falling off the surf board. We surf at 2 surf spots throughout the 4 days of surfing and the waves is just perfect for beginners to intermediate levels. Would definitely return to surf with Dex. Friendly people, sandy beaches, cool waves, delicious local food. Lombok, Gili Trawangan is indeed a beautiful island.

Everything was very easygoing. The atmosphere was super chilled. Everyone was so friendly and we made new friends who showed us the amazing island. There are bicycles offered for free which was really nice!

We started surfing at the Gilis and had the perfect first surf impression. Dex is really the best instructor!

Dex really love surfing and he transfer him passion tu you and the accommodation is very nice I felt like in family.

If you want to completely switch off and just enjoy life try this experience. They say Trawangan is like Kuta was 20-30 years ago - no paved roads, dirt tracks for bicycles and lovely waves and sweet beaches. Just 3 hours on the fast ferry from Benoa "Gili T" is easy to get to from the main Bali areas. If you take the package at Rumah Canaria, like i did, you stay in small huts on stilts made from local materials that are clean and tidy with great bathrooms and cooling comes from a fan and the evening breezes through the woven walls. The dirt floor compound takes you back to another age as you sit and swing in your hammock after a banana pancake breakfast cooked by Gede. One of the best elements of Rumah Canaria (Jenni is from the Canary Islands) is the amazing social life of the musical people of Trawangan. Reggae music is on every turn table and reggae bands play in every venue - perfect for the long hot nights. No shortage of cold drinks on the island there is a bar next door with bands so you don't need to ride your bike to the main entertainment area.

MOST IMPORTANTLY

These amazing island people need all the support they can get following the devastating earthquakes earlier this year.

The damage is still quite visible as you ride around but the rebuild is occuring and people are starting to return.

What you get in return (outside the crazy busy main season Dec-Jan where european backpackers fill the main bars and luxury resorts) is a unique experience.

The good think of the school is not only that a real good local professional surfer, Dex, the main teacher, has all of dedication, expertise, knowledge, kindness and passion teaching surf. The real best is that he and friends in the school are real fine and nice people. If you want the best teaching at amazing locations of the Indian sea to surf and snorkel and in the best of human waves, call him.

The staff were incredibly friendly, they really made it a great stay. The surf lessons were really fun and helpful, I stood up the first time! I only went to 1 yoga class but it was really great.

The bungalow I was staying in was very nice, especially the bathroom. It would be lovely for a romantic getaway.

Es war toll, wie man mit einbezogen wurde. Gerad, wenn man allein reist. Dex und Jenni sind tolle liebenswerte Gastgeber. Alle Sessions (surfen, Yoga,Massage) waren extrem gut! Die Insel ist traumhaft schön, klar ist nach dem schweren Beben noch viel zu tun, aber auch da können wir helfen, indem wir Lombok und die Gilis trotz allem wieder besuchen!

We( Randi and Sherri) from Canada had the best time surfing with Dex! Couldn't have asked for a better instructor. We had amazing waves to learn on and Dex was great at explaining what we needed to do to get up! When we weren't surfing we had a blast biking around and enjoying the island. Dex, Jenni and Gede totally took care of us, had a great breakfast every morning and just the best people to spend time surfing and chilling with❤️

Dex and his staff were great - really good surf instructors and went out of their way to show me other places around the island to snorkel or eat. They were also always around to answer any questions or just hang out. I would definitely return to Kubu surf school and recommend it to friends!

We (twi girls from switzerland) had an amazing week at the kubu surf school while staying in Baleku Hotel. We had the package including 5 surf lessons and that was perfect for us to learn the basics. Dex always showed and explained us how to improve our surf skills. After 3 days of surfing we could change the surfboard and catch intermediate waves.

The Baleku Hotel had free transfer to the city center and also free water refill and good breakfast. There is a pool, yoga props and wifi. The rooms are nice and clean. The stuff is really friendly and helpfull. We had a great time and we deffinitly recommend this surf camp!

My overall impression of the surf camp was excellent! I spent 9 days at the Kubu Camp with Dex, the sy overall impression of the surf camp was excellent! I spent 9 days at the Kubu Camp with Dex, the surf instructor, Gin and Jennyfer who helped to manage and lead the camp. The atmosphere was marvelous. Everyone was very friendly; it was like a big family. The surf camp was amazing! As a beginner, Dex explained to me  all of the basic theories that a beginner must know before surfing on the waves. For instance, how to paddle correctly when you catch a wave, how to pop up, the right position on the board etc. Also he taught me all of the points regarding safety techniques and tips which are really important. Dex was helpful during every surf session. It was hard for me to catch waves by myself, he helps me by pushing my board in order to get much more speed ! I really improved my surf skills during this week, Dex was a good instructor, passionate, who love sharing his knowledges with you. Now I have all the keys to keep practice surf by myself! I look forward seeing you guys in France or in Canaries island and catch some waves together!

About the camp itself, the accommodation was really cosy, very pleasant to live. Also bicycle are available to get around the island.

Simply put, Dex has been the best instructor all the way. I have never surfed before and so even it took quite a bit of time for me to just stand up on the board. Dex was always very encouraging and patient with me all the way until I got it.

Outside surfing we hung out and chilled together. I just had a great time with Dex and Jen. I think his leadership quality is going to benefit anyone who is interested in learning how to surf.

And another point I should make. Thanks so much Dec and Jen for helping me find my “once-lost” phone!!

Good location for surfing with great waves in a beautiful setting. The instructors were excellent. Attentive and supportive of personal needs. Good at building confidence with lots of positive encouragement. Perfect for beginners and intermediate surfers coming back after a bit of a break. Lots of fun as would be expected with a surfing crowd.

We had an AMEZING time With Dex in Senggigi. Dex is the BEST teacher ever, he is really pedagogue, enthusiastic and full of positives vibes. We were 3 people who never did surfing before, and after only 3 sessions we could stand up correctly and take the wave by ourself. Dex is really professional and always tell you the way to improve wave after wave !! The supplied materiel is really high quality and the wave are perfect for all levels !

Apart from that Dex was always here to gave us the best advices for local places and local prices. If you've still energy after class you can still rent a board and keep going !!!

The Yoga part was Awesome as well, we did some Ashtanga Yoga, it suit really well with surfing. We even did a 2 hours yoga sessions on the top of a hill for the sunrise, is was outstanding !!

The place to stay is run by a family and the staff is really kind ! You feel like home !

We really like our stay in Senggigi with KUBU surf School, we Highly recommand this place and this teacher !! Dex is definitely the BEST Instructor in LOMBOK !

When I stand up

The surf lessons were great. Even during only three sessions I could feel the improvements from beginner level.

All instructors (surf &yoga) are professional and very flexible. They organized the lessons (one surf lesson may take several hours if you want) in a way that we even could spent time for a one day trip to Gili island and several half-day trips to visit other sights at lombok.

The camp is much more than surf school and yoga classes as - if you like - you will be part of the big family around dex and the baleku team. We spent several afternoons and nights joyfully together and I am still overwhelmed by the hospitality from all those people. I really loved to be part of Senggigi lifestyle for one week.

Me And my friend booked a 4 day surfcamp at Kubu Surfschool and we enjoyed it a lot! We received a warm welcome of Dex, our instructor . He is very funny, friendly and enthusiastic. Because of the private surfclasses, Dex could really give personal attention to us. We never surfed before and we learned a lot from him. We would definitely recommend Kubu surfschool if you want to learn surfing and have fun!

The instructors are all really friendly and helpful. It‘s so much fun to go surfing here and the spot it perfect for beginners. You can surf here in small groups so you can catch many waves. It‘s really worth the money.

My instructor Aliq was amazing, he was he great teacher, and also spend time to show me around and ensure i was taken care of during the day/night.

Lots of activities to do, even when the surf is down.

The surf isnt big, and the reef break can can pretty shallow..but the people make it soo fun. perfect for beginners...

The snorkelling was amazing, i swam with turtles everyday.

I liked the way our instructor gave us a taste of the daily lombok surfers life. Really dedicated local surfers who have an incredible passion for taking these spicy beautiful waves.

Enough time to discover the incredible authentic Lombok by motorbike around the 2 hours surfing per day.

Surfing was good - instructors were great

Dex and the team are really fun. Great English speakers. They made sure I had all the best equipment and that I was surfing the best waves, if not we would move to another beach. Jack and Dex had me standing up on the board on the first day, which I wasn't expecting...I quickly progressed over the next few days.. it is so exhilarating!! They are great teachers, and actually champions on the island so I was instructed by the best! They will give you lots of attention and good instruction. Hotel was good, rooms are simple and clean. Staff are nice.

First of all, Dex was really great at taking care of and helping us out with anything we needed prior during and after the week of surfing & yoga. He was very flexible to accomodate all our needs, and always made sure that we were having a good time. The surf lessons qere lead by him and his brother, and their friend Zul and all three of them were fabulous. They are really great surf instructors, so that both me (who didn‘t have any prior experience) and my friend (who had some surf experience) were really happy with the lessons. And it was a lot of fun with them. Zul provided us with perfect materials (boards, shirts, even fried bananas during the break:)..). The accomodation was quite simple, but absolutely fair for the price. The staff there is very nice and helpful, too. Oh and the massage at the end was great. So, overall we were absolutely amazed by the experience and can definitely recommend anyone to book it. The highlights for us were: the great and fun surf lessons, the beautiful location right by the beach (best sunsets!) and the relaxing surroundings (as we travelled in December, we were lucky that not many other tourists were there).

There Some Nice sports and not that busy so you have the waves for your self.

I liked very much Dex's attitude and service quality. He is a very good instructor and dedicate and know well how to keep his clients motivated. He has good knowledge and understanding of surfing. He is patient and has good skills for teaching.

We had two good instruktors. We couldent had got better ones.

The surfing was fantastic, we had a really nice group together and got along very well. Teachers were great and everyone was so friendly and helpful.

It was a pleasure to be there. The staff of the surfcamp was great. They did a lot to keep a good and relaxed atmosphere. During our surf trips they helped us to get better in a very friendly way.
