Daily yoga in front of the beach
Imagine practicing yoga or meditation to the sound of the waves, directly in front of the beach. Not even your best dreams could compete with their daily yoga classes for all levels. Free Spirit Hostel is passionate about sharing its yoga practice. They believe that combining surf and yoga is the best for your mind and body. You will improve your flexibility, your strength and you will learn to enjoy the present moment. Their daily course is perfect for beginners who want to try it for the first time or for yogis who want to enjoy a good session.
Surfing in paradise
From October to June, it’s possible to learn to surf with us or to just rent one of the 20 surfboards (from 5,8 to 9 feet) and go have some fun! They are happy to live directly in front of a point break and a beach break, to allow you to surf as much as possible during your stay. No matter what’s your level, the waves are perfect for beginners, intermediates, and advanced surfers. The best thing about this location is the 15-point breaks that you can reach within less than 15 minutes of driving.
Whether you are a professional surfer or a complete beginner, everyone can surf in the little paradise.

The little paradise is located in the south of Ecuador, 1h30 from Guayaquil and 3h from Montañita, in a small fishing village called Puerto Engabao. In front of the ocean, stunning sunsets, amazing waves, and a unique yoga deck will make you think you are dreaming. But guess what, this is real!

Rich and healthy 100% vegetarian food prepared and served with love. Every night there will be a family type dinner where you will enjoy our delicious meal in good company. A vegan option is possible — just let them know!

If you feel more adventurous than chilling in a hammock during your stay at Free Spirit Hostel, there are lots of activities for you. Free Spirit Hostel offers a day out in Playas, to visit the city, chill at the beach, surf or go dolphin watching. You also have the opportunity to go fishing. At the hostel, you can enjoy plenty of free activities from volleyball, to slacklining, washers, ping pong, pool table or just relaxing at the pool.

Driving direction
- Free Spirit Hostel is about a 1 hour 30 minutes ride from Guayaquil.
- Take the 'Via a la Costa' to Progreso, in Progreso follow the signs to Playas Villamil.
- Once you get to Playas take the road to Engabao, from there continue on the dirt road to Puerto Engabao and follow the Free Spirit Hostel signs to find the hostel right in front of the beach.
Arrival by airplane
Please book your flight to arrive at José Joaquín de Olmedo International Airport (GYE). The transfers from and to this airport are not included in the price. From Quito to Guayaquil, Avianca, Tame, LATAM offers almost hourly flights from Quito to Guayaquil for approximately 40 USD.
Arrival by taxi
Free Spirit Hostel offers a taxi service directly from the airport for 70 USD. To book a taxi, please contact the hostel.
Arrival by bus
From the terminal, Terrestre de Guayaquil, take the direct bus to Playas, which usually leaves every 30 minutes. Watch out, the last bus leaves at 8 pm (if you miss it, you will easily find a taxi). Once you are in Playas ask for the bus to Puerto Engabao or take a taxi for 6 to 7 USD to the hostel. You can also take the bus from Quito (Bus Terminal Quitumbe) to Guayaquil which takes about 8-10 hours and costs 12 USD.
