You will be accommodated at the El Ranchito Surfcamp in a private room with a shared bathroom. The hostel has four unattached cabins situated in a green and shady tropical garden, surrounded by many trees and sounds of nature that are sure to make your stay unique and remarkable. In the middle of the garden, there is a big ranch, typical of the Panamanian lifestyle, which houses a tall open kitchen and a huge hangout area for the guests.
Programme
El Ranchito Surfcamp’s 3-day surf retreat is the perfect introduction for beginners or anyone looking to build a solid foundation in surfing. With a focus on personalized coaching, safety, and ocean awareness, this program is all about learning the right way from the start—while having lots of fun along the way.
Each morning, you’ll head straight to the beach for a 90-minute surf session with a certified instructor, Lorenzo. He’ll guide you through the essentials: board control, paddling, catching whitewater waves, and taking your first steps toward riding green waves with confidence.
After your session, you can hang out at a beach café right at the main break—grab a smoothie, relax in the shade, and soak in the surf vibes. Evenings are spent together back at the camp with a shared home-cooked dinner, giving everyone a chance to connect, laugh, and relive the day’s best waves.
This short retreat is all about good energy, great waves, and giving you the confidence to continue your surf journey with the right technique and mindset.
On the last day, all the guests leave early in the morning at 6:30 a.m.

Laurent Dutruilh
Laurent, also known as Lorenzo, is the owner and surf instructor of El Ranchito Surfcamp. Because he was born in the famous surf town of Biarritz in France, waves and surfing have become one of his priorities. Therefore, he turned his hobby into a career. Every summer, he goes back to France to work professionally as a surf instructor. Due to his eleven long years of experience in surf coaching, he knows all the essentials required for successful surf lessons.
Lieu
This camp will take place in Playa Guanico Beach, Panama. Guanico is a piece of gem that is still undiscovered in Panama. The place is situated between the tourist areas of Playa Cambutal and Playa Venao. The beach stretches over 20 kilometers with nothing but nature. In addition, Playa Guanico Abajo has main and right point breaks that are suitable for all levels and becomes the perfect spot for tourists who are seeking a remote place to relax.
Especially for surfers, the beach's empty line-up and uncrowded waves make a perfect surf spot and experience. There is no danger of heavy currents and no rocks in sight. Throughout the year, the waves have a consistency of 95%, and the best waves are from medium to high tide.

Driving directions from Panama City
- Cross the Puente de las Americas bridge and stay on the Inter-American Highway until the town of Divisa which will approximately take three hours.
- Turn off from the Inter-American Highway in Divisa.
- Find the exit ramp which is on the right entering Route 2 (or Calle 2) via Dr. Belisario Porras.
- Stay on Route 2 and pass Chitre for 48 kilometers until Las Tablas (Chitre is the cheapest place for gassing up).
- Enter Las Tablas which is 37 kilometers from Chitre.
- Continue on the main road until the stop sign. On the right side, there is a town square called Parque Belisario Porras and a church.
- Go straight on the small street and be careful not to turn left to stay on the main road.
- Turn on the second left and then turn on the immediate next right.
- Drive on the road to Valle Rico heading to Tonosi which will be about an hour's drive taking you into the mountains.
- Arrive on the T-section.
- Turn right heading to the town of Tonosi.
- See the Banco National on the left side when you arrive on another T-section and turn right.
- Stay on this road and go straight.
- See a blue bus top on the left side in around 15 minutes.
- Turn left heading to Guanico.
- Pass the town of Ave Maria.
- See the sign of El Ranchito Surfcamp after five minutes.
Arrival by bus
El Ranchito Surfcamp will transfer you from the bus station to the surf camp and the pick-up is included in the price.
