Urcia Surf School

Great set up with a very laid back atmosphere. Perfect for anyone looking to chill out and surf in a location with waves for all levels. Highly recommend.

Nice people, nice location, nice hostel

I have stayed at Urcia Surf House for a month and really had the perfect start for my journey through Peru. I was able to improve a lot on my surfing as the surf clases and also the conditions in Huanchaco were really good. I also took some spanish lessons which gave my a good understanding of the Spanish grammar. There are tours available where you can see how the typical fisher boats of the region the "Caballito de Totora" are build and how the fisherman use them. This is also highly recommended as the Urcia family is very passionate about it and it's nice to get an impression of the culture of the locals. At the hostel there is a really chilled and friendly atmosphere and most of the people stay at least a week. Also the prices for the surf packages are incredibly fair in my opinion.

All in all if you are looking for a relaxed place, cool flatmates and some good surfing this is the right place for you.

Urcia Surf Camp is absolutely incredible. Located in Huanchaco, just outside of Trujillo, it is the perfect location to learn surfing. The waves are consistent and well formed and there are two separate beaches in walking distance, one that favors beginners and the other that is suitable for intermediates and beginners working on leveling up to green waves with faces. The instructors are beyond great, and the improvement if every student i saw them work with (including me) was enormous. The house is conveniently located in walking distance to everywhere in Huanchaco you would want to go. Everyone I met during my month there extended their stay to be there longer than initially booked for. It's just that good of a place to be.

Concerning the surf classes, I really liked the teachers ! They are very caring and give you useful personal tips each time you try to catch a wave. They always make sure that you enjoy your class session. They also have super positive mindsets. Moreover, I really appreciated the fact that we are maximum three people for one teacher. Thanks to that, I quickly improved my level of surfing. And Huanchaco is a great place to learn surfing because there are two places next to each other. One with smaller waves and one with bigger waves. So, you can improve quickly your level by moving from a place to another. Also, you can surf every day since the waves are daily nice !

Concerning the accommodation, it is well located (near the beach and not in the Main Street to avoid the noise). It is also very convenient to put your surf board and wetsuit. Also, the kitchen and rooms are clean. I was warmly welcomed and felt immediately at home. There is a friendly and family atmosphere in the Hostal that I really liked! People were super nice and sweet. So a great place to make some good friends too! And people who work there are super sweet and make sure that your stay is perfect!

So, to conclude, I recommend at 2000% this place !

I had a really good month in Huanchaco at Urcia. It's a small hostel which makes it feel homey and it feels like a little family at the hostel. My surfclasses were really nice too, Juninho and Cesar are good surf instructors and I learned a lot about the breaks, being in the water and reading the waves. Nice boards too, I was able to change my board a lot and they have lots of good quality and different boards. The spanish classes were really good, 1 hour one on one lessons and Bruno is a good teacher and really nice. I liked the town overall too, lots of nice people around the surf shop and hostel and easy to make friends. I was able to join a surf competition which was a fun experience

and I went on a trip to Chicama which was cool. The waves in Huanchaco are nice there are lots of different breaks and there's a beginner side and a more difficult side with more breaks. The month flew by ver y fast and I would really recommend staying for a month in this place and hostel!

Loved my stay in Huanchaco so much I never wanted to leave. Everyone there quickly became like family and it truly was one of my best experiences to far on my travels. The surf is really good and the classes I had helped me improve so much! Juninho and Randu are both very talented surf instructors. The hostal is great, super convenient location and has a well equipped kitchen.

Thank you so much to everyone in the family for making it the best experience! I would come back in a heartbeat.

The atmosphere in the hotel was very good, the teachers were very patient and fun.

I stayed in the Urcia Hostel for 11 nights in total and it was great, very nice people, cozy and comfortable atmosphere.

The surfboards and the lessons were also great, Randú was my teacher and he taught me a lot and i can definitely take a lot with me from these 5 lessons. I can really recommend it to anyone wanting to surf better, but also anyone who just wants to have a good time!!

This was by far my favorite family vacation! I wanted my children to be able to experience the culture of another country and that was accomplished. The Urcia family and staff made us feel right at home and were even able to help us set up day trips to other parts of Peru! The day of fishing and fresh made cerviche was a day my kids and I will never forget. I would highly recommend a week at Urcia surf camp to everyone! Loved it and can’t wait to go back.

Huanchaco is a bueatiful place, with chilled out vibes and great surf literaly every day! (great for any level of surfer).

The hostal has a very homely, cosy vibe and with an awesome balcony with daily sunset views you'll get to know everyone super quick:).

The whole Urcia family are super lovely and will help you with anything you need:).

They made me feel welcome and we had a laugh.

I stayed for a month, 10 surf and 10 Spanish lessons.

My surfing improved from total newbie and now I feel much more in tune with my board, the waves and a passion to find some new waves! Jorge was a super effective and encouraging teacher:).

I knew 0 Spanish when I arrived, thanks to Manuel's lessons and SO much opportunity to practice with locals/travelers I can now have some basic conversations!!

I loved the food fresh local markets selling the best mangos & avacado I've ever had for super cheap.

My room was also super comfortable with lots of space, hostel was super clean and has everything you need to cook/store boards/ wetsuits and chill out.

Overall I loved my stay thank you so much for having me:). ¡Paz!

This place is the best! Great location and instructors and affordability

Alles war schön sauber und die Küche war super ausgestattet. Ein kleines Hostel, aber dadurch kam eine schöne Atmosphäre auf :)

The instructors were brilliant and encouraging. It was easy to use gear an dclosr to the beach. Everyone at the shop and hostel were friendly and inviting.

Very professional and humane family, very warm and with excellent with all the host! The lessons are first class , with the best instructors.

I just finished the 6 day surf camp with Urcia surfschool and had a fantastic time. The family run, laid back vibe of indiga hostel is amazing - Miriam and John will make you feel like family. The breakfasts are incredible, two courses, beautiful, healthy, totally home made. John is a very good surf teacher, pays close attention to detail, is encouraging, helpful and fun. The Caballito tour was also a really cool experience, giving me authentic insight into the history and daily life of Haunchaco. I can’t recommend this package enough.

John & Miriam run an amazing business! Thoughtful, attentive owners. Always available and helpful. John's a great, caring surf instructor - I made some great improvements. The food was great. All the people I met at the hostel were easygoing, fun people who I loved spending time with. Strongly recommend this surf camp!!!!!
