Arrival by airplane

The best way to get to us is to fly to San Jose airport (SJC). From there, the most convenient and faster, although more expensive option, is to take a local flight to Tambor (25 minutes). From there you have to take a taxi to our surf camp (1 hour, 50 USD).

Arrival by bus

From San Jose airport (SJC) take a taxi to the San Carlos (Atlantic) bus station in downtown San Jose where direct buses (Transporte Cobano) leave to Mal Pais/Santa Teresa at 06:00 and 14:00 every day (costs about 16 USD). Leave the bus in Cobano and take a taxi to Manzanillo (20 USD). The entire trip will take around 6 hours.

If you arrive in San Jose late afternoon or at night, you might want to stay in one of the many backpackers or hotels and leave the next morning.

  • The deposit is non-refundable, if the booking is cancelled.
  • The rest of the payment should be paid 3 days before arrival.

"Their motto "come as a guest, leave as a friend" perfectly describes the experience you will make at Zopilote. The owner (Simon) has been all over the world, travelling and working in surf camps. A lot of "know how" and "best practise" was influencing and developing his surf camp. The spirit is authentic and has been some kind of therapy for me on one of my last visits. Could need some of this therapy right now, while typing from my office in Austria. See you soon Zopilote!"

"They have a huge collection of different kind of boards to rent and all are in a good condition. The surf spot isn't too far away and not even crowded. The surf house is a nice and relaxing place to stay and a bit away from the dusty and busy St.Teresa. It's a place where I felt extremely comfortable. I met a lot of amazing people there and had lots of fun doing things next to surfing like fishing, ATV riding or snorkelling. All in all, just perfect!!! Thanks to Simon for the great meals he made."

"Surfing with friends.. that´s what Zopilote Surf camp is all about. Great times on a remote beach and empty lineups. Food is amazing and the jungle feeling can´t get any better. Surfs up all year long. The surf is advanced and beginner friendly and the crew will hook you up with boards and surf school if you need."

"I've been to a couple of surfcamps worldwide but Zopilote had my heart immediately. A lovely camp with very nice and cool staff, mostly run by Simon, two surf guides and another two youngsters who help out in the kitchen and camp life. The beach and the surf break is awesome, it could not be more beautiful; I've already returned twice!"
