You will stay for seven nights at the guest house which is right in front crossing the street from the school. In the guest house, you will have access to the pool, your private room with Wi-Fi, and the use of the kitchen.

At Yuckite, all the lessons are taught individually. Every student has his or her own I.K.O. certified instructor as well as personalized equipment to ensure that your training progresses at your own pace, guaranteeing the most effective learning experience. In order to be a safe and independent rider, the average amount of lessons are 12 hours which will be divided into sessions of two to four hours per day.

The instructors and assistant instructors have been trained and examined thoroughly by this organization to provide a high-quality and safe learning experience. The package includes instruction based on I.K.O. methodology, international I.K.O. certificate (member card), and the usage of the entire equipment (kite, control bar, flotation vest, helmet with two-way radio, and discounts on the purchase of equipment).

Level 1 - Basic and advanced kite control

At this stage, you will learn about basic aspects of the wind theory, identify the safety zone and the necessary wind conditions for practicing kiteboarding; basic, and advanced kite control, as well as how to use the kite safety systems. You will be familiarized with the following advanced kite control techniques: kite control at different positions of the wind window, kite control with one hand, walking with the kite in both directions, flying “8”, launching and landing the kite with an assistant, and as an assistant, and self-landing.

Level 2 - Safety procedures, first riding practice, and wind effects

At this stage, you will learn how to relaunch the kite when it drops into the water (water re-launch) and get to know safety procedures for self-rescue in case the kite collapses and you are unable to relaunch it. Once you have acquired the safety skills allowing you to be more independent in the water, you will start with the first body drags as well as with the first riding practices: steady pull, water-start, and controlled stop. Finally, you will also learn about wind effects and meteorology: venturi effect, compression effect, bay effect, thermal wind, cumulonimbus, etc.

Level 3 - Advanced riding skills

At this stage, you will improve your riding skills, learn how to control the speed of the board by using its edge, how to control and maintain the right riding direction, how to go upwind, make transitions, and how to launch the kite on your own (self-launching).

Yuckite's kite center is located directly on the beach and the Kiteschool guest house is located just across the street in a quiet neighborhood in the town of Progreso. Since this is often a stop for cruise ships, there are plenty of great restaurants to visit and the local food is great. The center of town is five kilometers away, but it is easy to get there by taxi or Uber. Also, there is a restaurant at the kite school named The Tropical Moose. Your kitesurf experience will take place in Progreso, Yucatan, Mexico. Below are the kitesurf spots chosen by Yuckite.

El Playon

El Playón is the main spot for teaching and the most frequented kite spot in Progreso. With a wide beach and its shallow water out a long way, it offers perfect conditions for safe and comfortable kiteboarding lessons. The wind blows mainly side-onshore, between 15 and 35 knots almost every day throughout the year. From beginners to pro riders, this spot is just perfect for kiting.

La Ria De Chelem

When there is southeast wind in Yucatan, you can go kiting at La Ría de Chelem. The water flows in from the ocean to the land and creates an impressive space for kiting. At La Ría, the water is flat and shallow. Due to the location’s characteristics, gusty and onshore wind, La Ría de Chelem is a spot only for advanced riders. However, thanks to the local boatmen, Yuckite can take the students to the middle of the wide ria to share the amazing kite experience in this beautiful spot in a safe way. Yuckite works constantly with Chelem’s cooperative in order to improve the spot’s conditions for kiteboarding.

A multifarious spot! Chuburná is located in the west of Progreso, shortly after the village Chelem. A breakwater divides the beach into two: on the one side is the wavy ocean, whereas on the other side you will find flat water.

Things to do (optional)

Mornings here are quiet and can be spent relaxing in a hammock on the beach at the kite center or renting a SUP and going for a paddle or taking an uber to the town center and exploring the markets. Progreso has many restaurants serving fresh seafood and local cuisine, but the town itself is pretty quiet, so do not expect to find many lively bars or clubs. On no-wind day, there are plenty of things to do such as go on a tour to the cenotes, go scuba diving in the cenotes, visit Mayan Ruins, sail, sail on the Hobie Cat, or SUP tours and wind SUP.
