Each room has its own cozy lanai terrace where you can relax if you are looking for some privacy and peace and quiet; otherwise, head to the communal lounge area for some banter.

Every day, there are two surf sessions and one yoga session for you. The surf times will vary depending on the tide and so will the time of your yummy breakfast. Every day is carefully planned for you to have the best time. In addition, Xanadu will take you on the beach and sunset trips for you to explore the area better, you will be given plenty of options to spend your day.

The Xanadu Team

The instructors are passionate about surfing and want to share this passion with you. The experienced instructors will take care of you in the water and make sure you get a kick out of every session. Also, they will make sure you advance your level, whether you are a beginner, intermediate, or a seasoned surfer.

The water sessions are complemented with surf theory classes and video analysis on the ground, Xanadu will always make sure that there are no more than four people per instructor so that you can get all the attention you need. Xanadu Surf & Yoga is perfect for all levels, including beginners.

Surfing in Lombok

There are plenty of surf spots in South Lombok to choose from for every level so you won’t be bored or disappointed. Warm water and clean waves are just a few highlights. You can also expect fewer crowds and cleaner beaches than on the neighboring island of Bali. Xanadu is very close to many breaks such as Gerupuk, Tanjung Aan, Areguling, or Seger.

  • Selong Belanak - Beginners

Beautiful beginners' beach break, 30 minutes away from Kuta with a long white sandy beach. It is a perfect place to try your first steps on the board and learn the basics. There are many restaurants and bars by the beach and it's an ideal place for a beach hangout.

  • Seger - Intermediate and Advanced

This spot is just 10 minutes away from Xanadu. It is a right reef break with the occasional left off the peak. The water here is crystal clear. Seger is best when the swell drops. With mid-tide and offshore winds, this can be a great spot with short tubes and bowl walls ready for any move you can think of.

This break is best from October to April. It is a short paddle away from the beach with many cozy bars on the beach waiting for you when you get out and a perfect sunset viewing spot.

  • Tanjung Aan - Intermediate and Advan

Another beautiful spot with white-sand beaches only a 15-minute drive from Kuta. A great long right-hander in the middle of the bay. All year round, mid to high tide.

  • Mawi - Intermediate and Advanced

Fast, powerful, and barreling left and less, often a short right-hander. Pretty shallow on a sharp reef. Very peaceful, a short paddle from the beach.

  • Inside Gerupuk - Beginner and Intermediate

This right-hander over a flat reef, also known as Bumbang Bay, is located in Gerupuk Bay. It is suitable for all levels and has fun waves with a long wall and a forgiving lip. This break is surfable during any season and can handle any wind, as it is protected by the surrounding hills. It is best on an incoming tide.

  • Outside Gerupuk - Intermediate and Advanced

Also called Gili Golong, this spot is situated in Gerupuk Bay very close to Inside Gerupuk. A right-hander works well at mid to high tide with multiple peaks outside. It can hold 8-10 feet but is best at 4-6 feet from October to April. It can be accessed by a boat from Gerupuk Fishing Village.

  • Don-Don - All Levels

This is the furthest break inside Gerupuk Bay and as a result, needs a bigger swell to break. Don Don is a perfect, A-frame peak that bends both left and right. For all levels of surfers and it can be good in any season as long as the winds are light. It works on any tide with the outgoing tide being the best time.

Guests can enjoy a free daily Restorative yoga session organized in partnership with Ashtari and designed to supplement your daily surf sessions. The yoga takes place in the rooftop space. It’s an excellent opportunity to wind down and get ready for another day of waves ahead. The yoga session is already included in the package so you have no need to worry about anything. Yoga mats and props are provided.

Xanadu Surf & Yoga is located in the heart of Kuta in the south of Lombok, just 45 minutes away from Bali and surrounded by beautiful white-sand beaches and nature; it is a perfect location for your surf and yoga holidays. Xanadu Surf & Yoga is located just two minutes away by foot from the main street of Kuta, which gives you great access to all bars, restaurants, and shops. At the same time, it is tucked away among the trees and greenery so you can enjoy peace and quiet; you get the best of both worlds.

Kuta is a small village located in the south of Lombok. It attracts many surfers, yogis, and backpackers looking for a peaceful getaway and is surrounded by pristine beaches, which are as close as 10 minutes away.

What to expect?

If you expect the hustle and bustle of Bali, never-ending parties, and fancy beach clubs, this is not the place. Kuta may at times be a bit dusty, with loud scooters passing by, but remember, you are in rural Indonesia, it’s no Cote d’Azur. However, it is a very charming village with a lot of great restaurants serving all types of food (Indonesian or international) and many happening bars with live music and a friendly and chill crowd; there are places to dance and party, too. The crowd coming to Kuta is mostly easy-going travelers and surfers who are attracted by the still untouched raw beauty of south Lombok.

When is the best time to go to Lombok?

All year-round, the high season in Lombok is June, July, and August; it is a dry season with plenty of sun and a cool breeze throughout the day. You can compare this season to a European summer; dry season starts in May and finishes in September. Lombok’s wet season starts in September and finishes in May, but don’t be alarmed. It is much drier than Bali’s wet season and it doesn’t rain so much in Kuta.

You can still enjoy the sun and the temperatures are higher than in the dry season, partially because of higher humidity. The wet season is when Lombok is in full bloom and you can enjoy lush greenery all around. In addition to that, this is the perfect season for surfing with warm water, no winds, and glassy conditions, every surfer’s dream.

Many surf breaks, such as Areguling or Seger awaken during the wet season. Surprisingly, there are no crowds on the waves even though it is the best time for surfing in Lombok.

There are many stunning beaches around Kuta, perfect for a lazy day on the beach or sunset watching. Here are some of Xanadu's favorite beaches.

  • Selong Belanak

A beautiful, long, white-sand beach 30 minutes away from Kuta. There are many warungs (local food outlets) along the beach so you can easily spend the whole day there; it's also the beach where beginners go surfing.

  • Seger

Seger Beach is just 10 minutes away from Xanadu and is a perfect place to watch the sunset from one of the hills just right next to the beach. There is a couple of chill bars with bean bags and sometimes, you may see locals dancing with fire.

  • Tanjung Aan

A stunning, long, white-sand beach only 15 minutes away from Kuta where you will find many local restaurants with sunbeds and bean bags. This beach is great for swimming, SUP, and surfing. Xanadu's favorite place there is Warung Turtle (the one with pink wooden huts).

  • Mawi
  • A little more difficult drive, it takes around 30 minutes to get there but it's totally worth the hassle. This small beach cove is surrounded by hills and very quiet.
