Accommodation

Winning Techniques offers an opportunity that is unique to the summer camp world and is ideal for parents with younger campers. Winning Techniques is located on a picturesque 23.5-acre site, 15-minutes north of Huntsville, Ontario. There is a beautiful clear lake, providing the perfect backdrop for a summer full of exciting, and rewarding camp experiences. Winning Techniques strives to make your stay both comfortable and pleasant from the moment your family arrives.

The bunkhouse and main lodge house could sleep four to eight campers in each room with an adjacent camp counselor suite. The spacious main lodge is a great common area and social center for evening activities. Parents of the campers may choose to rent one of the cottages or campsites. All of the cottages have kitchens that are fully equipped with a fridge, stove, and coffee maker. They also include a fire pit and picnic table. The cottages are fully winterized and available for rental year round, with winter seasonal rates available for snowmobile enthusiasts.

Main lodge

The main lodge has eight rooms, a dining hall, and a commercial style kitchen. It is perfectly suited for large family / social gatherings such as weddings, anniversaries, and family reunions. It is also available year round for team building weekends. It is perfectly suited for hockey and synchro teams and can comfortably sleep up to 35 people. Please call for a quote since the price depends on the number of guests / rooms required. This cottage is not available for rental during the summer camp season.

Program

The program features three towed watersports lessons per day based on Waterski and Wakeboard Canada's progressive skills development program, in addition to Winning Techniques' other great camp activities! Winning Techniques has three prime inboard boats, each specializing in its own area of towed watersports: waterskiing, wakeboarding, and barefooting - and they've got the equipment to take you from a beginner to a master on the water.

Their wakeboard boat, an Axis A20 - is famous for its wakes of any size and shape. The official towboat of the U.S. Masters and the Canadian Waterski Nationals, the Ski Nautique 200 is the ski boat. It'll pull every member of the camp to their personal best. Finally, another barefoot boat, Malibu Response, is equipped with the boom and the smallest wake for an easy ride.

The watersports specialty program is headed up by Carl Grin, who leads a team of trained and certified Waterski and Wakeboard Canada coaches, known for their sincere effort and motivational techniques. The process starts on dry land where they teach proper technique and stance, to deep water where campers can get up on the water and start trying new tricks! The equipment for the watersports program is provided, or you can bring your own. Not only that, you will also enjoy other fun and exciting activities of your choice and team building exercise included with all of the camp programs.

Waterskiing

Watersports are available for all specialty programs. Waterskiing is exactly that, skiing on water! Campers can choose to try this sport, along with others like wakeboarding or even wakesurfing.

Wakeboarding

Wakeboarding is an option for everyone! Similar to snowboarding, the wakeboard has bindings for both feet and is used to carve the water and jump off the wake like a ramp! If you're just looking to cruise around the lake or try some awesome jumps, wakeboarding is so much fun for everyone.

Wakesurfing

Watersports campers get to experience surfing while being miles away from the ocean! After mastering the basics of waterskiing and wakeboarding, campers get to try out riding a wave behind the boat.

Other activities

Weekly theme nights

Each week campers get to let loose and have fun on dance night! Here are the weekly themes:

  • Week 1 - Cowboys and cowgirls
  • Week 2 - 70's Flower Power / Disco
  • Week 3 - Caribbean parade
  • Week 4 - Hawaiian hula party
  • Week 5 - Glow in the dark 80's party
  • Week 6 - 50's rock n' roll, Grease is the world!
  • Week 7 - Superheroes
  • Week 8 - Disney characters and karaoke

Variety nights

Variety night is a party night at the beach! Every Friday evening, campers perform skits and dances that they have practiced all week, which is followed by an awards ceremony for the week. Join Winning Techniques at the camp and see if maybe you win a gold in the archery tournament - or maybe take home the Camper of the Week trophy!

Archery

At this popular station, Winning Techniques campers learn how to use a bow and arrow. All campers learn the art of archery from experienced camp counselors and practice it daily. Beginners and experienced archers can aim and shoot at targets set up at different distances, and each week a prize is awarded to the camper with the most accurate shooting skills.

Bonfires

Campers gather around the large bonfire for orientation night where they learn each other's names and get to know everyone from all the specialized programs. A few times a week, Winning Techniques would like you to gather as a group and roast marshmallows while getting to know new friends - this is also a great time to share songs and join in on a sing-along! Of course, the bonfire is not all fun and games as they teach the campers how to build a fire with basic fire building skills and about fire safety.

Arts and crafts

Arts and crafts have always been a special part of the camp. In the beginning, one of the directors, Kim, began by teaching painting and drawing to campers. However, as the camp grew so did the craft and creative capabilities. In 2017, they built a brand new space for kids to get messy with paint, learn how to make bracelets and necklaces, plaster masks, and so much more! The campers get to bring home all of their artistic creations!

Tubing

All of the campers get to have a thrilling Friday when Winning Techniques take out the tubes and go for rides around the lake. Tubing is always good for a laugh and a fun activity for everyone to participate in just before the weekly variety nights! Whether going for a leisurely stroll around the lake on a sit-down tube or a fast-passed bumpy ride, tubing is for everyone!

The boom

Here at Winning Techniques, campers of all levels and abilities have the opportunity to receive watersports lessons from trained watersports instructors. The boom is a tool for beginners just learning the skills, as it allows the student to get up on the water and still be able to hear corrections from the driver or instructor. This confidence builder allows for excellent communication, which really speeds up the campers development - more advanced skiers will learn to slalom ski and barefoot on the boom as well.

Kayaking

Kayaking is a mix of instruction and relaxation where campers will take a trip with their camp counselor to learn about fundamental strokes and techniques, while also enjoying the sights of the lake. Winning Techniques counselors are trained and certified in conjunction with the Ontario Recreational Canoeing and Kayaking Association (ORCKA).

Basketball

New for 2017 is the regulation-sized basketball court for campers to learn and practice their shot or challenge their cabinmates to games!

Hiking

At Winning Techniques, there are so many things to see and hiking is a great way to enjoy the beautiful land that the camp is located on. Campers can enjoy a nature hike guided by their counselor and if they're quiet they may see deer, rabbits, and other small animals. Each week, Winning Techniques pairs off into teams and get the chance to venture into the bush for a wilderness scavenger hunt!

Low ropes course

The low ropes course is a fun, team-building station that is great for learning to work with fellow campers and teammates. This is another one of the most popular stations, located around the rock wall for campers to work together everyday building core strength and friendships. Experienced counsellors work as instructors to help spot and support the campers through the challenging and fun ropes course.

Stand up paddleboarding

Paddle boarding, like canoeing or kayaking, is a fun way to see the sights of Clear Lake while providing an opportunity to work on balance and core strength. It's definitely a little more of a challenge as you have to try not to fall off! This station is a camp favorite. New for 2018, Winning Techniques has six new paddleboards to make a group station!

Mini-putt

Here at camp, Winning Techniques builts their own mini-putt course in the backyard - it is so much fun! This station is a relaxing activity where groups are often found socializing while they practice their shot or challenge each other to see who can get the lowest score.

Barefooting

The last step in the watersports progression is barefooting! Advanced waterskiers and wakeboarders get to learn and experience what it is like to ski on the water, without skis!

Paddleboating

Campers are free to take out one of the paddle boats during their beach time. It is a great way for them to learn basic boating safety while having a bit of fun.

Canoeing

All campers learn proper canoeing techniques from qualified camp counselors. Journeys around the lake are encouraged and come along with loon sightings and Northern Ontario scenery - sometimes even a beaver can be seen in the distance! Sometimes, a long paddle calls for a dip in the lake and perhaps a stop at Penny Island or the public beach with a camp counselor required.

Board and card games

Rainy days don't stop the fun at Winning Techniques. The campers get to have some free time and are encouraged to play games with a group of new friends. They may learn a new card game or just laugh along with a group of campers playing a variety of fun board games. Some campers may prefer to challenge their friends in a game of checkers or chess!

Rock climbing wall

The rock climbing wall is a unique four-panel course hung between two large trees, with a high ropes element at the top! It is one of the camper's favorite stations to hang out at. Not only is it a satisfying feat to reach the top and ring the bell, but awards are also awarded each week to those who can do it in record time! This station is multi-purpose as it disguises a cross-training like a workout into a fun climbing challenge.

Slacklines

The slacklines are the new addition to the trampoline zone. Slacklines are essentially stretchy, flat webbing to walk across, bounce on, and try so many things! Campers get to practice and test their balance and agility, and maybe even try some tricks.

Snorkeling

The beach is a great place to swim and splash, but viewing the underwater world of the northern Canadian lake is always a treat. Campers are encouraged to grab a snorkel, mask, and fins from the beach hut and start adventuring with their friends

Wakeskating

Wakeskating is just like wakeboarding but without boots to hold in your feet. Similar to skateboarding, wakeskating is super fun for those up for a challenge.

The Rock-It

The water is a great place to spend warm summer days, and while jumping off the floating raft is always fun, Winning Techniques offers fun water toys at the beach also. The Rock-It is a favorite. It is a floating ball of absolute fun. You can always find campers either jumping off or playing creative games like the shark with their camp counselor.

Swimming

All of the groups from each of the programs have the option to head down to enjoy the beach every day. You could build sand castles, have fun on the swim raft, swim in the swim area, play games, snorkel, paddle boat and hang out with your new friends while sunbathing. Of course, the lifeguards are always on duty while you are in the water. The beautiful sandy beach has a gradual slope that leads into a warm spring fed lake. A little bit of beach time offers the perfect opportunity for some rest and relaxation.

Trampoline

Here at Winning Techniques Camp, there are two full-sized trampolines for you to learn all kinds of tricks or just see how high you can jump. Winning Techniques' certified trampoline instructor, Carl, is available to help the more advanced learners progress their tricks into flips and other awesome moves. Whether you just want to jump and have fun, or are serious about trampoline, this station is meant for everyone.

Banana boat

Similar to tubing, the banana hold six campers and is towed behind one of the motor boats. The banana is a super fun activity to try with your group.

Multi-purpose field

There is a multi-purpose field complete with soccer nets and plenty of room to run. This is perfect for football, soccer, and so many other games for groups to play!

Activity center

The activity center is full of so many indoor games from pool and billiards to giant Jenga. It is the best place for a rainy day escape or just some indoor fun!

Tetherball

This is an awesome game for hand-eye coordination and a favorite for the competitive at heart. You can always find a group of campers here challenging their friends to see who will win.

Table tennis

This popular station is available for any group to use recreationally. There is a weekly table tennis tournament available.

Bouldering wall

This is a new addition to Winning Techniques' craft room building. It is a rock wall just a few feet from the ground for you to practice your climbing before trying the large wall.
