Since four years, WaveSisters has discovered an even better spot for you and they are at the gates of Lisbon in Costa da Caparica, Portugal. Costa Caparica is located about 10 kilometers south of Lisbon on the other side of the Tejo and can be reached in only 20 minutes by car from Lisbon. You are accommodated in their surf house with a big terrace in the center of the village and an only 5-minute walk to the ocean. The beach of the Costa is divided into several sections, almost 30 kilometers long, offers a lot of space and different sandbanks and many waves that want to be surfed!
WaveSisters's surf house has space for up to 9 WaveSisters and you are accommodated in 2 bedrooms or in our 4 bedrooms. The accommodation has four bedrooms, a kitchen, bathroom, toilet, living room, a huge chill-out terrace with barbecue. Everyone will find enough space to feel comfortable and to reflect on their experiences together. You can feed yourself and cook in the well-equipped kitchen.
Next to the house, you will find shopping facilities, cafes, restaurants, and bars. The local market is a great place to buy fresh local produce. You can take a bus to Lisbon for a stroll or a sightseeing tour. The journey takes only 30 minutes and you're already there! The nature around our surf camp invites you to take a long walk on the beach. And of course - the beaches are perfect for surfing. You can use the internet just around the corner in the cafés.
The course participants’ physical and mental conditions are more alike and it is easier to empower each other. The self-imposed pressure to perform is considerably less, which increases the learning success and consequently surfing becomes more fun. Please take notice the check in and check out times are very flexible, so you may plan with freedom.
You will have 20 hours of theory and practice, including video correction. Surf material is always included and available for you to use outside of course hours as well.
The course hours depend on conditions, tides, and weather. WaveSisters also drives to other beaches, if needed, making sure that you are always in the best place at the best time. This makes WaveSisters unique in this service. It also increases learning conditions considerably! This is only possible thanks to the small group size. That’s why there’s no fixed time schedule. WaveSisters will come up with a rough timeline at the beginning of the week, which may change.
Yoga classes take place three times a week for one and a half hours with the schedule depending on the time of the surf course. The classes will be conducted outside. The type of yoga offered is designed for surfers making it a perfect balancing activity. It doesn’t matter if you have never done yoga before or if you practice regularly.
WaveSisters instructs all levels. Absolute beginners start at zero and WaveSisters will build up the surfing skills slowly and continuously from there. For all others, WaveSisters will assess your skills at the beginning of the week, checking where you are at, continuing individually from there, in regards to what you want to achieve and what’s up next.
Everything that gets you moving, that you enjoy, contributes to your surfing fitness! If you feel like it, go swimming, or work out your triceps, shoulders, and your upper body strength in general.
But if you don’t enjoy it and you might give it up straight away, you’re better off playing sports that you enjoy and keep doing, even if it doesn’t fit surfing ideally.
The location of WaveSisters’ new surf camp in Costa da Caparica, Portugal, will take your breath away - brilliant for surfing different spots nearby and ideal to relax with yoga. And Lisbon is just around the corner! It will only take you 30 minutes by public transport from the camp to go and explore the city.
Lisbon is about 25 minutes by car or 30-minute bus away and offers plenty of possibilities to go shopping and sightseeing. The 30 kilometers stretch of beach and the natural park at the south end are ideal for long walks. The beach is perfect for sunbathing and surfing.
The area around Lisbon is famous for its perfect waves. Because of the two coast lines with different directions, you can always find the perfect wave with all the different swell and wind directions. The beach of Costa da Caparica offers plenty of space and is perfect to learn and improve surfing.
For the advanced surfer girls and women, the area from Lisbon offers many different types of waves. Waves over sand, reef, and pointbreaks can all be accessed within 60 minutes by car. The famous wave Supertubos in Peniche forms perfect barrels right onto the beach and is about one and a half hours away.
Costa da Caparica, or now just called “Costa“ by the Portuguese, is becoming more and more popular and is considered the beach in Lisbon area. South of Costa, still the same beach, starts and has another 20 kilometers of beach and an unspoiled forest inland.
Best weather, perfect waves with relaxed atmosphere, plenty of space in stunning nature, and, on top of that, near to Lisbon are the reasons for WaveSisters to move their camp to Costa. The special flair of Costa also comes from the long promenade with plenty of cafes, bars, and restaurants to have beautiful sunsets and chill outs.
There’s too much to tell about Lisbon to even start here. But just to give you a very quick overview: the city was built on seven hills. This capital of Portugal is rich in culture and sights. The oldest district, the Alfama, with its little streets and places is home to the famous Fado bars. The "barrio alto" is the center for young people and full of little shops, restaurants, and plenty of bars and night life. The "barrio baixa" the real center of the city invites to stroll, shop, and enjoy Portuguese traditions.
In this surf camp, you cater for yourselves. Usually, the participants buy groceries, cook, and sometimes go out to eat together, making for quite a few social hours.
Because the surf camps are self-catering, WaveSisters always takes care that you find a fully equipped kitchen to prepare some nice meals together. Close by, you will find shopping facilities, cafes, restaurants, and bars.
Lisbon Portela Airport
Transfer not provided
Please book your flight to arrive at Lisbon Portela Airport (LIS). When you book your flight, please think about the time of your flight. Don't arrive too late and don't leave too early from the airport because the trip from the airport to Costa da Caparica takes only about one hour but public transport might not run that early or late.
Your journey to the camp is self-organized. From the airport, take the red metro line in the direction S. Sebastião until the stop in Saldanha. Continue on the yellow line with direction Limiar for the next stop Campo Pequeno. Follow the signs Campo Peqeno to the surface. The metro works from 6:30 a.m. to 1:00 a.m. and a one-way journey cost about 1.40 EUR. You need to buy a travel card "Viva Viagem card" for 0.50 EUR and charge it with the ticket.
At Campo Pequeno, you take the bus 161 of the bus company TST to Costa da Caparica. The bus stop is in the Avenue Berna only 50 meters away. Unfortunately, there's no bus sign anymore for the 161. The bus runs every 20 to 30 minutes and costs 3.25 EUR (4.10 EUR at night) to be paid on the bus.
Because it's a different company, you can't pay with your "viva Viagem card". The bus runs from 6:00 a.m. or 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. So, make sure your flight does not arrive or leave too late or too early!
WaveSisters will pick you up from the bus station in Costa Caparica and bring you to the surf house, or you find the way alone. It’s only five minutes on foot. WaveSisters will provide more details with your booking. Please let them know when you will arrive and if you need help.
If you decide to go from Porto, you have to take the train from the station Porto - Campanha to Lissabon - Oriente. To get to Sintra, you have to go to the station Rossio in Lisbon and take another train from there to Sintra.
For this organizer you can guarantee your booking through BookSurfCamps.com. All major credit cards supported.
