Accommodation

Check-in Time:
14:00
Check-out Time:
10:00

You will spend your holiday in WaveSisters’ surf house, which is only a two-minute walk from the ocean, a great surf spot only a stone's throw away. The house is right next to the beach from Costa da Caparica. “Costa“, as it is called by the Portuguese, is just south of Lisbon on the other side of the river Tejo. The house is for 10 WaveSisters with shared double or triple bedrooms. It is equipped with five bedrooms, a kitchen, two bathrooms, a living room, and a roof terrace. Everybody will find space to chill out and share the experiences of the day. Internet connection is available in the accommodation.

Program

You will have 15 hours of surf lessons, both theory and practice. In addition, you will also be practicing yoga three times a week - the yoga is especially targeted at surfers. Additionally, you will have two morning routines with meditation and Qigong. WaveSisters is a surf school for women, girls, and their kids only. Experience has shown that women and girls are able to pick up surfing more quickly and more easily in homogeneous groups - meaning, in a group consisting of females only - than in a mixed group, in which, due to physical strength, the boys are riding their first waves sooner.

Participants' physical and mental conditions are more alike and it is easier to empower each other. The self-imposed pressure to perform is considerably less, which increases learning success, and consequently surfing becomes more fun. This surf and yoga program runs from Monday to Friday with arrival and departure days being Saturday or Sunday.

Surf

You will have 14 hours of theory and practice, including video correction. Surf material is always included and available for you to use outside of course hours as well. The hours depend on conditions, tides, and weather. WaveSisters also drives to other beaches, if needed, making sure that you are always in the best place at the best time.

This makes WaveSisters unique in this service. It also increases learning conditions considerably. This is only possible thanks to the small group size. That is why there is no fixed time schedule. WaveSisters will come up with a rough timeline at the beginning of the week, which may change.

Yoga

Yoga classes take place three times a week for one and a half hours with the schedule depending on the time of the surf course. The classes will be conducted outside. The type of yoga offered is designed for surfers making it a perfect balancing activity. It doesn’t matter if you have never done yoga before or if you practice regularly.

Levels

WaveSisters instructs all levels. Absolute beginners start at zero and WaveSisters will build up their surfing skills slowly and continuously from there. For all others, WaveSisters will assess your skills at the beginning of the week, checking where you are at and continuing individually from there, in regards to what you want to achieve and what is up next.

How to prepare

Everything that gets you moving, that you enjoy, contributes to your surfing fitness. If you feel like it, go swimming, or work out your triceps, shoulders, and your upper body strength in general. But if you do not enjoy it and you might give it up straight away, you are better off playing sports that you enjoy and keep doing, even if it does not fit surfing ideally.

Location

The location of WaveSisters’ new surf camp in Costa da Caparica, Portugal, will take your breath away - brilliant for surfing different spots nearby and ideal to relax with yoga. And Lisbon is just around the corner! It will only take you 30 minutes by public transport from the camp to go and explore the city. Lisbon is about 25 minutes by car or 30-minute bus away and offers plenty of possibilities to go shopping and sightseeing. The 30 kilometers stretch of beach and the natural park at the south end are ideal for long walks. The beach is perfect for sunbathing and surfing.

The area around Lisbon is famous for its perfect waves. Because of the two coastlines with different directions, you can always find the perfect wave with all the different swell and wind directions. The beach of Costa da Caparica offers plenty of space and is perfect to learn and improve surfing. For the advanced surfer girls and women, the area of Lisbon offers many different types of waves. Waves over sand, reef, and pointbreaks can all be accessed within 60 minutes by car. The famous wave Supertubos in Peniche forms perfect barrels right onto the beach and is about one and a half hours away.

Cova da Vapor

A traditional fishing village located just north of the surfing hot spot Costa da Caparica. The impressive 26 kilometers stretch of coastline south of the Tagus River Estuary is just 15 minutes from Lisbon. With a very good connection to the capital, Caparica is the perfect travel destination for everyone who doesn't want to miss the perfect beach life with a connection to the city. Costa da Caparica itself offers a large beach promenade with a wide variety of cafes and restaurants, a park, long sandy beaches, and of course perfect waves.

Costa da Caparica

Costa da Caparica, now just called “Costa“ by the Portuguese, is becoming more and more popular and is considered the beach in the Lisbon area. South of Costa, still the same beach, starts and has another 20 kilometers of beach and an unspoiled forest inland. The best weather, perfect waves with a relaxed atmosphere, plenty of space in stunning nature, and, on top of that, near to Lisbon are the reasons for WaveSisters to move their camp to Costa. The special flair of Costa also comes from the long promenade with plenty of cafes, bars, and restaurants to have beautiful sunsets and chillouts.

Lisbon

There is too much to tell about Lisbon to even start here. But just to give you a very quick overview: the city was built on seven hills. This capital of Portugal is rich in culture and sights. The oldest district, the Alfama, with its little streets and places is home to the famous Fado bars. The "barrio alto" is the center for young people and is full of little shops, restaurants, and plenty of bars and nightlife. The "barrio baixa" the real center of the city invites you to stroll, shop, and enjoy Portuguese traditions.

Food

You will be served seven breakfasts and four dinners included in the price. WaveSisters values healthy, fresh, nutritious food. You use a lot of energy when surfing and they want to support that in the best possible way. They rely on locally produced, wholesome food. Prepared in a variety of ways and coordinated with each other. This way you get back all the nutrients you use up during the day. They have something different every day. There are new add-ons to the classic breakfast buffet every day, such as bowls, pancakes, smoothies, etc.

In the evenings, they cook freshly with several courses. Since they attach great importance to ecology and environmental awareness, their dishes are mostly vegetarian to vegan. If you do not want to go without animal protein, they always offer a vegetarian option or fish or meat in small quantities, fairly and organically produced.
