Accommodation is at the superbly new residence of Santa Cruz, reserved for Village Camps just 15 minutes’ walk from your main surfing beach and the town. The 4-6 bed apartments are modern and spacious and all have full en-suite facilities. Campers have access to a large, private swimming pool, and exclusive use of two activity rooms.

The local surf school, with its professional instructors, has over a decade of specialist experience in the Santa Cruz area, so has the expertise in constantly monitoring the tides, sea conditions, and the changing positions of the sandbars. Each day, the surf school chooses the safest and best places - and the best times - for surfers to learn and improve in optimum conditions. Although the timing of the instruction is flexible, lessons will average about three hours each day from Monday to Friday.

The beaches that the surfing instructors regularly use are usually about a 15-minute drive away. In the 20 kilometers of coast around Santa Cruz, there are 20 different beaches with the closest and your main base, the Blue Star rated Praia de Santa Cruz, a mere 15-minute walk for your accommodation. All campers, whilst surfing, will be provided with specialist's, quality equipment including a surfboard, rash guard, and wetsuit.

It is interesting that it was at Nazare, about an hour away from your surf beaches, that the world record biggest wave was surfed during the winter months. You will surf in the month of July when the superb beaches at Santa Cruz promise perfect conditions for beginners right through the intermediate range to the most advanced surfers. Safety is Village Camps’ main concern with fun and excitement ranked closely behind.

  • Obidos: a charming, walled medieval city and one of the acclaimed “seven wonders of Portugal”
  • Lagoon of Obidos: a busy, fun adventurous time with stand-up paddle-boarding, kayaking, and canoeing
  • Setubal (dolphin-watching) - Troia National Park - Sado Estuary: a real ‘highlight’ day starting with embarkation on a sailing catamaran to spot the indigenous Sado dolphins, an afternoon in the National Park of Troia, and on to the Sado Estuary with its unspoiled beaches and Roman ruins
  • Lisbon: sightseeing (underground Roman ruin tour) and free time

On the West Coast of Portugal, just an hour from the capital, Lisbon, Village Camps’ new Portuguese location, Santa Cruz, lies on the dramatic coastline of the Costa de Prata - the ‘Silver Coast’. The majestic cliffs and beautiful beaches make this sun-drenched coastline what many consider to be Europe’s premier surfing destination. The nearest and best surfing beach of the twenty on this 20-kilometer coastline is the Blue Star-rated Praia de Santa Cruz, just 15 minutes’ walk from your accommodation. Lisbon, the capital, and its convenient international airport are only an hour or so away.
