The school is located 10 minutes from the beach of Thulusdhoo, North Male Atoll. Thulusdhoo island is located just 28 kilometers north of Male, Maldives. It is the capital of Kaafu Atoll. Approximately 1,400 people live on the island. The size of Thulusdhoo is 700 and 400 meters (according to Google Maps). After the devastating tsunami that happened in 2004 on Rinbodhoo island, more than a half of the population had to move to Thulusdhoo, so the population of Thulusdhoo grew. It is a paradisiac island with pristine white sand beaches and turquoise lagoon where surfers can ride very good quality waves such as Cokes and Chicken surf breaks. In addition, you can find the famous surf breaks of Sultan, Jail, Honkeys, Ninjas, Pasta Point, and Lois 10 minutes by speedboat. The island also has beautiful gold sand beaches such as Bikini Beach where tourists are most welcomed in a blue, clear water lagoon.
Maldives is one of the world’s most famous holiday destinations. It’s known for the natural beauty of its islands which are nearly all lined with white and golden sand and crystal clear turquoise sea, pristine beaches. Maldives consists of 1,192 coral islands grouped in a double chain of 26 atolls, along the north-south direction, spread over roughly 90,000 square kilometres, making this one of the world’s most dispersed countries With this large number of islands and reefs, Maldives are starting to be world known as a really good place for surfing spots for intermediate and experienced surfers, with consistent waves and long surfing season. Even though the waves are not the most powerful or biggest in the world, but you can get a lot of fun surfing in this amazing destination.
The waves are not massive and they are quite easy and fun. The swell is very consistent. Many breaks have reliable barrels and most of them have long beautiful waves you can ride until your heart’s content. A flat day is quite rare. You’re pretty much guaranteed somewhere to surf on the islands every day throughout the surf season.
There is a huge number of surf spots in Maldives so most of the best breaks on the islands are often uncrowded but this tendency is starting to change. However, only a handful of breaks are easily accessible from the resorts and these can get a little crowded. The best surf on the islands requires a short journey away from the resorts, but it’s more than worth the effort.
The surf spots in the Maldives can be separated into three main areas. Each one of the areas is an individual atoll and they all have their own character: Male atolls, central atolls, and south atoll. You will be focused on North Male Atoll where Vakaru Surf is located.
