The Indigan Surf Hostel is a small family-run surf hostel. If you wish to self-cater, the hostel has a fully equipped shared kitchen with gas stove and oven. In the market two blocks away from the hostel, you can get any fresh fruit you can imagine, all different kinds of fresh vegetables and, of course, fresh fish!

You have access to two shared bathrooms with hot showers. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the hostel including on the sun terrace with sea view. The surf hostel also has a space to hang your wetsuit to dry in the shade and your towel in the sun.

Program

During your camp, you will have a hearty and healthy breakfast. It is up to you if you want to have it before or after your first surf lesson. Each day, except for one rest day, you will have a one and a half hour surf lesson. The Urcia Surf School offers surf lessons for all ages and all levels, from beginners to professional surfers. Each surf lesson includes warm-ups, safety briefing, and coaching on the beach. The three surfers to one instructor ratio ensures that you have a great time, personal feedback and coaching, and safe surf.

Besides the surf lessons, you can train and go for some free surfing whenever you want. The Indigan Surf Hostal is not even a five-minute walk to the surf spot! During your stay, you will also be able to enjoy a Caballito boat tour with Caballito legend Santos Urcia.

Besides surfing, you can hang out in the town. Huanchaco is a nice, relaxed town where you can chill at the beach, enjoy the delicious Peruvian food in one of the plenty of restaurants around or have a drink at night. If you are interested in Peru's culture, some famous archaeological sites of the pre-Columbian cultures of the Chimus and Moches are very close.

The Indigan Surf Hostal is a small hostel with eight rooms. In the shared kitchen and terrace you always meet other guests and there is always a place for a short or longer chat. But if you prefer to have some time alone, you just may retire to your room.

Once you arrive in Huanchaco, together with the team, you will figure out what time is best to start with the surf lessons, depending on the tides and your condition. In a group, you will also agree on when to do the Caballito tour and what time you would like to have your breakfast. The staff will adapt the schedules on the sea and your preferences, so you will for sure have a great time!

Included excursions

During this holiday, you will have a chance to enjoy one Caballito boat tour. You will head to the church Virgen del Socorro in Huanchaco. It is built in the 16th century, it’s one of the oldest churches in Peru. Here you’ll learn about the history and culture of Huanchaco while taking in a wonderful view of the town.

Next stop is at the 'Totorales', the place where the reeds for the 'Caballito de Totora' are grown. Then you’ll head to the beach. At the beach, the team will show you how to build a Caballito before you end your tour with a Caballito ride on the ocean.

Location

The surf hostel is located two blocks away from the beach 'La Curvita' in Huanchaco, where you can always count on good surfing conditions, especially for beginners and intermediate surfers. Huanchaco is an extraordinary surf destination in Peru. Huanchaco has consistent waves, thousands of years of surf history, excellent hospitality, and competitions for all ages. There are five separate breaks in Huanchaco, stretching across over a kilometer of beaches, for all different surf levels.

Most breaks here work at all tides. Currents in Huanchaco can be strong. Although the currents are usually not dangerous, they can certainly give you a workout! In September, along with the start of the Peruvian spring, sand movements begin. The rocky beaches can be covered with sand until the summer. These sand movements can cause some small variations in the breaks and their position.
