The Indigan Surf Hostel is a small family-run surf hostel with eight rooms. If you wish to self-cater, the hostel has a fully equipped shared kitchen with a gas stove and oven. In the market two blocks away from the hostel, you can get any fresh fruit you can imagine, all different kinds of fresh vegetables and, of course, fresh fish. You have access to two shared bathrooms with hot showers.

Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the hostel including on the sun terrace with a sea view. The surf hostel also has a space to hang your wetsuit to dry in the shade and your towel in the sun. In the shared kitchen and terrace, you will always meet other guests and there is always a place for a short or longer chat but if you prefer to have some time alone, you can just retire to your room.

Program

During this camp, you will start your day with a hearty and healthy breakfast; depending on you, before or after your first surf session. Each day, you will have a one-and-a-half-hour surf lesson. The Urcia Surf School offers surf lessons for all ages. Each surf lesson includes warm-ups, safety briefing, and coaching on the beach. The three-surfers-to-one-instructor ratio ensures that you will have a great time, personal feedback and safe surf.

Besides the surf lessons, you can train and go for some free surfing whenever you want. Once you arrive in Huanchaco, Urcia Surf School will figure out what time you can start best with the surf lessons, depending on the tides and your condition. They will adapt the schedules on the sea and your preferences so you will surely have a great time.

Location

The camp will take place in Huanchaco, Trujillo, Peru. The surf hostel is located two blocks away from the beach 'La Curvita' in Huanchaco, where you can always count on good surfing conditions, especially for beginners and intermediate surfers.

Huanchaco

Huanchaco is an extraordinary surf destination in Peru. It is a nice, relaxed town where you can chill at the beach, enjoy the delicious Peruvian food in one of the plenty of restaurants, or have a drink at night. If you are interested in Peru's culture, some famous archaeological sites of the pre-Columbian cultures of the Chimus and Moches are very close. Huanchaco has consistent waves, thousands of years of surf history, excellent hospitality, and competitions for all ages.

There are five separate breaks in Huanchaco, stretching across over a kilometer of beaches, for all different surf levels. Most breaks here work at all tides. Currents in Huanchaco can be strong. Although the currents are usually not dangerous, they can certainly give you a workout! In September, along with the start of the Peruvian spring, sand movements begin; the rocky beaches can be covered with sand until the summer. These sand movements can cause some small variations in the breaks and their position. Besides surfing, you can hang out in town.

Your meals will be at your own expense.

Things to do (optional)

Surf trips to Chicama, Puemape, and Pacasmayo (from 70 PEN per person)

Experience Chicama, the world’s longest left-hand breaking wave, Puemape, or Pacasmayo, the best breaks the La Libertad area of Peru has to offer. Get together with a group for a day trip from Huanchaco to Chicama, Puemape, or Pacasmayo. Each day trip sets off from the surf school at 7:00 a.m. and aims to return to Huanchaco by around 7:00 p.m.

Sandboarding at Conache (80 PEN per person for a four-person group or more)

Travel into the desert to sample sandboarding at Conache, outside Trujillo, and then cool off afterward at the lagoon in the oasis of Conache. You will get a great workout too: climbing back up to the top of the dunes for your next ride. The sandboarding trip includes transport from Huanchaco, sandboard rental, entrance fee, drinking water, and some snacks (fruit and cookies). The trip lasts around five hours in total. Urcia Surf School can arrange morning or afternoon sessions. This trip can be offered for less than four people at a slightly higher price.

Aditional one-hour video analysis session is also offered for 70 PEN.
