You will be staying at Umzumbe Surf Camp. The property has a main house that has five bedrooms, an open-plan common area with lounge, dining area and kitchen, all with a sea view. There are two toilets and two baths inside the house that are shared amongst all. There are two airy outdoor showers to rinse off in, with hot water taps and a cool sea breeze.

The outdoor lounge is very welcoming, hugged with couches and pillows for leisurely reading or afternoon siestas. The outside deck and patio were designed for nothing but chilling in the sunbathing lounge chairs, picnic tables, hammocks or swings under the fig tree. On the property are two Balinese style Surf Bungalows. They are private, self-catering units with their own kitchen, toilet, and shower.

Please note that we run our business as a B&B 90 percent of the time. On the property we have two luxury bungalows that may be booked out by other guests. These guests have their own kitchen, bathroom, and braai area so they will not be coming up to the main house during your stay. You will just share the property garden with them.

We have five staff members. The receptionist and day manager works in the office daily 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The surf instructor and night manager lives on the property and is responsible for locking up the house, helping guests whenever needed, and taking care of the dogs. Two cleaning ladies who service the house daily who are always happy and willing to assist you with anything you need from 7 a.m. to - 4 p.m. The gardener works every Tuesday and Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The kitchen is a self-catering and fully equipped communal kitchen. We advise that you bring groceries with you since we do not have a restaurant on site. There is plenty of fridge space inside our seaside kitchen. The kitchen is fully equipped with most necessities, although there is no freezer. Please notethere is no extra space in the taff freezer for frozen foods, ice, or bait, so these will not be accommodated. There is an ice machine for cold drinks.

Lavatories / Restrooms

All restrooms are shared amongst the house but serviced daily and kept impeccably clean. The toilets are located next to the double rooms, providing convenience since there aren't an en-suite room options. The only en-suite options are the bungalows.

  • The rooms are serviced daily, beds are made with white linens and bath towels. Beach towels are available on request. Wi-Fi is free.
  • We have a communal Braai and Fire Pit. (Please bring your own charcoal)
  • Laundry service is available for R50 per load. Wash, dry, and fold.
  • There is off-street, secure parking and private access to the beach. Large camping trailers are permitted.
  • There is ample space to hang out around the house; inside the common areas, the outside lounge, the big yoga deck, patio, hammocks, or lawn.

There are two medium sized dogs that have grown up on the property around the B&B atmosphere all their lives. They are very friendly and love kids. They ask you please not to feed the dogs as they have gotten sick in the past from guests feeding them things. If the dogs are poisoned by something they have been fed, you will be sent the vet bill. If you have pets you would like to bring, you will need to discuss that in advance.

Your first morning you will hit the beach to go over the basics and fundamentals of your board, where to stand, how to pop-up and getting to know the surf spot. Your coach will take you to the water and position you into the foamy section of small waves while you practice basic techniques.

Take the rest of the day to kick back and relax, read, browse the web, take a long walk on the beach or drive into town.

All meals are self-catered. Please bring your own groceries since there are no stores in walking distance to the house. The surf house communal kitchen has ample fridge space for your groceries. Fully equipped, the kitchen is stocked with all the necessary cooking utensils, stove, microwave, kettle, and crockery to wipe up a smashing meal. Dinners are often spent over the fire, as many guests get together to have a 'South African braai' (aka: BBQ) where all of the guests grill and eat together. But, you are welcome to head out for meals as well.
