Nicaragua is one of the few surfing locations in Latin America to enjoy ideal surfing conditions virtually year round! Surfers have greatly benefited from the dramatic Nicaraguan topography and volcanic geography, which yield beautiful beaches and challenging breaks during all seasons.

Offshore winds nearly all year!

Nicaragua is also home to Lake Nicaragua, “La Mar Dulce,” the largest tropical lake on the American continent. Nicaragua’s unique shape, combined with this large inland lake, create ideal conditions allowing for a smooth passage of the northeast trade winds blowing across Nicaragua from the Caribbean. This results in consistent off-shore winds nearly year round along the South Pacific Coast, making conditions ideal for consistent surf.

Unlimited fishing trip via boat and 4x4 wheel drive is included in the package.

Nicaragua, known as the “Land of Lakes and Volcanoes,” is home to more than seven active volcanoes, which over the years have provided the southern Pacific beaches with dramatic rock cliffs, numerous coves, velvety sand, and numerous reef breaks.

A true adventurer’s paradise, Nicaragua is a country filled with rivers, lakes, and lagoons and bordered by the waters of both the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea. Nicaragua boasts one of the most impressive volcanic chains of Central America, with over seven active volcanoes. Nicaragua’s abundant ecosystem ranks this Central American country as one of seven regions of the world recognized for its intense biological diversity.

Two Brothers Surf Retreat

Two Brothers Surf Resort is located on a large private estate comprised of coastal hills that stretch out toward the Pacific and plunge toward fertile green valleys still used for ranching. According to local villagers, this land was used for years to grow “frijoles” or beans, a constant staple of the Nicaraguan diet.

Today, Two Brothers is home to the Gregory family, their chocolate lab, a small stable of gentle horses, several blue-headed parrots, small wild fox, large green iguanas, curious porcupines, chirping geckos, toads the size of footballs, moths the size of birds, and exotic rhinoceros beetles that dwarf your hand. An eco adventure at your doorstep!

Papaya, mangos, limes, watermelon, and plantains grow in abundance around the property. Enjoy spectacular views from every angle of Two Brothers including sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean, endless mountain ranges, tropical forests, native salt flats, ancient volcanoes, and the not-so-distant shores of Costa Rica.

Located approximately three hours from Managua, an hour and half from Juan Del Sur, and 45 minutes from Rivas, Two Brothers Surf Resort overlooks the Pacific Ocean just beyond the small community of Las Salinas in the Rivas District of Nicaragua. Two Brothers is centrally located between Playa Guascate and El Astrillero, providing for a fun and challenging variety of point, reef, and river mouth beach breaks.

Driving directions from Augusto C. Sandino International Airport (MGA)

  • Coming out of the airport, turn right onto Carretera Norte. Stay in your proper lane when turning or the police will give you a ticket.
  • At the first rotunda continue straight. This rotunda will have a busy bus depot and large market - don’t get confused - continue straight through.
  • At the second rotunda, go right onto a tree lined road. You will pass large white tanks along the right side of the road.
  • After about seven kilometers, there will be a funky intersection, stay right, turning onto a smooth main road going toward Masaya. You will soon pass a large manufacturing plant called Astro. Buses should say to Masaya and Tipitapa.
  • You will come to a T-junction with a white arched building directly in front. There will be a sign that says Masaya, Granada, and Penas Blancas to the left and Managua to the right, go left. Note: Make sure to stop properly at the stop sign here. There are always cops here. Don’t stop and ask the police for directions - they’ll find something to give you a ticket for.
  • Soon after turning left toward Granada, you will pass a Papa Johns Pizza. Remember this, this will be your landmark when returning to the airport!
  • At the next rotunda, continue straight through, do not take first right or you will be on the scenic and hectic tour through the center of Masaya.
  • Now you should be on a four-lane divided highway. Look for a Maxi Pali to stop at if you wish to buy snacks or provisions (they take credit cards!).
  • At the next rotunda, take a hard right, otherwise you will drive all the way in to the city of Granada. This rotunda is a bit different than the others as it has a bike path with yellow markers. There should be a big factory on the right shortly after.
  • You are now heading toward Catarina on a smoothly paved two-lane road. Look for a sign that says Catarina 6 kilometers. You will pass Pueblo Blanco Artist Villa.
  • Near here is a new rotunda, continue in a way that would be considered straight through (meaning don’t take your first right turn off the rotunda).
  • Pass through Catarina (village with beautiful plants), followed by the small towns San Juan de Oriente (noted for its beautiful pottery), and then the small towns of Diria and Diriomo.
  • Stay on the main road toward Nandaime. As you approach Volcan Mombocho, you will come to a rotunda of sorts, more like a traffic triangle, stay right and then take a hard right again in front of a factory at the base of Mombacho (if you go left you will end up in Granada)
  • As you approach Nandaime, you are approaching the Pan American Highway. Just before you reach the Pan American highway you will come to a Y junction with a grassy median (and a large pink billboard of Ortega.) Stay left here and turn left (south) toward Nandaime.
  • You may want to top off your gas tank, get drinks, or use toilet in Nandaime, it will be your last proper town before you hit the dirt road.
  • About 16 kilometers past Nandaime, you will cross over the Puenta Ochomogo Bridge.
  • About two kilometers beyond the bridge, look for a large turn off to your right onto a dirt road with signs for the Chacocente Wildlife Reserve and yellow wooden signs to Punta Teonaste.
  • Drive several kilometers until you reach a sort of Y (or T) junction with many signs. Turn left here. There will be a blue and white school to your left at this junction.
  • You will be about 45 minutes on this dirt road. Cross three small rivers and one cement bridge. Continue to follow the yellow Punta Teonaste signs.
  • The first notable landmark upon arriving in Las Salinas is the Angela’s colorful fruit stand
  • Just beyond the fruit stand, stay right, and cross over the steel bridge.
  • As you are driving along this road you will soon see the main house of Two Brothers on the highest hill to your right.
  • Drive past the The Holy (Holly) Ground Bakery, round the bend, and take your first right onto Bean Hill Road.
  • Take your first left to continue on Bean Hill Road.
  • Curve right at the well house. Switch now to 4-wheel drive if you haven’t already, it will be steep in places.
  • Continue up the hill.
  • Pass through the gates, mind the bump at the cattle guard, and continue up the steep concrete drive to the very top beyond the pool.
  • Check in at the main house at the very top.

Arrival by airplane

Please book your flight to arrive at Augusto C. Sandino International Airport (MGA). Transfer from and to the airport is included. Two Brothers Surf Retreat will pick you up from the airport.

"It is only 24 hours since I returned from a week at Two Brothers, and already I am wondering if I was really there or only dreamed it. I have traveled to many places in the world, but few if any as magical as this one, from the long days of surf on an incredible variety and consistency of waves, to the family-style meals cooked by the wonderful Chef Henry, to the wise and wonderful stories told by Robert Gregory, the maverick dreamer who bought this idyllic Las Salinas hillside two decades ago and envisioned what it might become. Gregory and his two sons (the "two brothers" of the title) are among the pioneers who first discovered much of the country's surfable coast, and entering into the life they have made for themselves there is like discovering a real-life Swiss Family Robinson. Alight here and you are no more than 20 minutes from more than a dozen world-class surf spots where head-high barrels are considered "small" and more than six guys in the lineup is "crowded." You will surf from sunrise to sunset, and you will dream of waves in your well-deserved sleep. And when it is finally time to go home, you shall begin counting the days until you are able to return."

"My friends and I stayed in a 6-person villa with Two Brothers in August 2016 and had a top-notch surf vacation as a result. The accommodations are comfortable (not lush, though, FYI), tons of character, and enough sun and wonderful (recovery) hammocks to put stars in your eyes. "

"Marsh (the older of the brothers) was our guide for the week, and is beginning to take the business reigns from his father. The Two Brothers family has been operating and mostly living in Popoyo for 17+ years, granting them unparalleled local knowledge,surfing/fishing experience, and community reputation. They took us surfing 2-3 times a day at different spots, and would have given us more if our bodies had been up to the challenge. Since Marsh, Auggie, and Robert discovered all the best Popoyo breaks to begin with, you can have confidence they'll always bring you to the best spot for your skill level given the swell, weather, and crowds. "

"It's important to note-- some of us were rather "green" surfers; Marsh, being an extreme surfer, was very humble, considerate, and easy-going with respect to the skill differential. He's a genuinely nice guy, loves what he does, and always kept us safe and happy-- in and out of the water."

"The Two Brothers property-- "estate", as I'd call it-- sits at the peak of a massive hill in Popoyo, where they can step out of bed to scope the waves morning, and where you will have complete peace and quiet and refuge from the mosquitoes. There's a dope pool and plenty of delightful hammocks and chairs."

"We did the "meal inclusive" option, and it was a game-changer. Chef Henry is very talented, whipping up three DYNAMITE meals per day with hefty portion sizes to keep the surfer bodies fueled. I'm not sure, but I believe they import meat from the US... either way, none of us experienced sickness during our stay in the country. Two Brothers will provide filtered water for you."

"The scenery was gorgeous, the waves were epic, and Two Brothers was a home run. What are you waiting for?"

"My 16-year-old son and I came down for a mother and son surfing trip. I can't imagine having picked a better surf resort than Two Brothers Surf Resort, owned by the Gregory family. It is located in the Popoyo beach area in Nicaragua overlooking five surf breaks. The surf resort sits on a hill top which allows for a 360 degree view and a breeze that alleviates bugs and mosquitoes. The Gregory's graciously opened up their stunning and unique home while catering to our every need. We surfed two to three times a day at all the best surf breaks at all the right times, whether it was by boat or 4-wheel drive. Robert and Marsh (father and son) have such extensive knowledge of the area and always knew where to get the best waves. We were also taken to many secret spots. Another bonus to the area is that the winds are primarily offshore. They have an incredible fleet of rental surfboards if you don't feel like bringing your own. The lodging is exquisite. It was built with Gaudi-inspired architectural details and literally painstakingly handcrafted by carrying every single building item up the high hill the resort sits upon. Everything was fabricated and designed on site. I am an interior architect and designer, and I was amazed at the quality and beauty of the construction. The pool is stunning and if you want a massage, it can be arranged. Chef Henry prepared consistent, bountiful and incredible meals and always paid attention to our specific dietary needs. We also went fishing. Robert and Marsh knew the right time and places to fish. We caught plenty of fish - ceviche and tacos were on the menu that night! The premises are kept immaculate and it has air conditioning! We had the opportunity to see other surf resorts that had appeared to be quite nice online, but when I saw them in person they paled in comparison to their online presence. Two Brothers actually surpasses what you see online. It's truly hard to capture the beauty and personality by looking at their website - you just need to go! If you don't feel like surfing, there are many other activities that you can do, and they will make them available to you. My son and I were extraordinarily fortunate to have spent our surfing vacation at Two Brothers Surf Resort and can't wait to return. Thank you Robert and Marsh for everything!"

"This is the first time to Nicaragua and Two Brothers Surf Resort. I will be back. It was an awesome trip from beginning to end. The Gregory's welcomed us into there home and took exceptionally good care of us including my 85 year old dad. I have no desire to research any place else. If you are looking for a beautiful, friendly retreat with great waves close, then this is the place. I cannot say enough good things about it. Thanks Robert and Marsh."

"My husband and I stayed at Two Brothers for a surf trip and romantic getaway in July 2015. The accommodations were beautiful, the food was excellent and the owners (Marsh, Auggie, Susan, and Robert) were not only extremely knowledgeable about the local surf and Nicaragua in general but also a joy to be around. The surfing was phenomenal - lots of great options for beginners and experts alike. There is also wonderful local cultural tour in a nearby village that can be arranged upon request. We look forward to our next visit!"

"Beautiful facilities! Clean, comfortable, and charming with breath taking views in all direction. The chef prepares delicious food. We stayed a week and did not eat the same meal twice with each one better then the last. Marsh is a top notch guide and will get you into some work class surf. We were treated more like family then guests and plan a return trip soon!"

"Just returned from a stellar week at Two Brothers Resort. From start to finish everything was seamless. Rooms were very comfortable, meals were excellent, the surf guides were the best I have ever seen, and the location of the place is ideal. Its like you are on the top of the world there. Marsh was our guide and he surfed us as much as we could take - three sessions a day if we wanted. But the resort is also a great place to relax next to the pool overlooking the various breaks. I would highly recommend anyone thinking of coming to the Popoyo are to stay here. No questions."
