The Truck Surf Hotel is a converted Mercedes Actros with a hydraulic system that allows the walls and the ceiling to expand. It transforms into an amazing double-decker hotel on wheels, giving the space of a home and the best comfort accommodation during your holidays. This innovative mobile hotel is fully equipped and prepared to ride with you on an unforgettable road trip. On the first floor, it has a living room with couches and a table where you can chill out.

There is also a projector where you can easily watch any footage taken. The kitchen is prepared for self-catering and to cook your meals. Next to the living room, they have a shower and a toilet. Outside the entrance, there is a lounge terrace to relax and enjoy the beautiful sunsets.

Climbing the indoor stairs, you have the upper floor with the main hall to access the five rooms, including four shared double rooms with a bunk bed and one private double room with a couple bed. 24/7 staff assistance and free Wi-Fi are available. At the Truck Surf Hotel, you can choose either a bed in a shared double room, which is more economical, or if you are traveling with your partner, they recommend the private double room.

Daily itinerary

Learn to surf with them in Northern Portugal. There is an incredible coast with perfect waves for beginners and intermediates according to your surf level. The route is Maceda - Porto - Póvoa de Varzim - Viana do Castelo - Vila Praia de Âncora. Every morning, you will wake up with an ocean view and enjoy the buffet breakfast on board, next to the beaches, surrounded by nature, close to the ocean. The Truck Surf Hotel will take you surfing on different beaches along the coast and exploring the beautiful sceneries with different outdoor activities.

To take the best advantage of the trips, Truck Surf Hotel recommends you come for at least one week, from Sunday to Saturday, so you do not miss out on the perfect waves or some amazing places you will visit. At the end of the day, there will be time to relax, take a warm shower inside the truck, drink a nice cold beer, and enjoy the sunset with your friends and the best vibes.

Sunday: Porto Airport to Maceda

Welcome to Porto. They will start by picking you up from Porto Airport at 1:00 p.m. and heading to the truck. The truck will be parked on Maceda’s beach - a stunning surf spot surrounded by a 10-kilometer stretch of pine tree forest. Once there, they will do a short briefing, introduce you to your new home on wheels for the week, and show you the uniqueness and curiosities of the truck. After that, you will jump in for your first surf session together (the beach is right at your doorstep so you do not need to go far) and enjoy a bit of music plus a sunset dinner in front of the ocean.

Monday: Maceda

Wake up to the sound of the waves and start the day with an early surf session in your backyard. Then, relax post-surf in the lounge area in front of the truck with views over the beach. Afterward, you will lunch in a local fresh food market, check out the nearby fishing villages, or skate different trails along the forest.

You will also discover nearby surf breaks together with your guides and surf coaches and go for a second sunset surf session wherever you find the best waves for your level. Still feel like being more active during the day? You could even go horse riding on the beach and forest or enjoy a bike tour (optional experiences).

Tuesday: Porto to Póvoa de Varzim

After a breakfast buffet (with beachfront views) and an early surf somewhere between Maceda and Porto, you will hit the road and head towards Porto’s historical center for lunch next to Douro River (as the Truck is packed for the next location - Póvoa de Varzim). At this point, you can try the famous Port Wine, the best Pastel de Nata known to mankind, and discover the charming streets of Porto and its bridges.

Finally, you will drive north to Póvoa de Varzim - a picturesque fishing and ocean resort city. The truck will be parked on top of a private beach in a stunning natural area with dunes and different surf peaks for all levels (plus, no crowds). Afterward, you will finish the day with a sunset surf or swim.

Wednesday: Póvoa de Varzim

Start the day with a peaceful yoga session and warm up for another epic surf. You will then have breakfast and drive to one of the surf spots in the area (of which there are 10). If you are still ready to explore in the afternoon, you can either skate in Esposende or enjoy a boat ride or SUP on the river (optional experience). Then, more surfing and a sunset barbecue at the truck before settling in for the evening to review your surf clips from the day and provide detailed insights to improve your surf skills (surf video analysis).

Thursday: Viana do Castelo

Next stop? Viana do Castelo! Located further north, it is here the Green Coast becomes even more breathtaking with dramatic mountains and waves that will get you stoked to surf. Once there, you can enjoy a long surf session in the morning and have lunch right at the beach. You will also admire Viana do Castelo city, the Lima River, and the surrounding mountains, plus some of the surf breaks you sampled earlier from their favorite viewpoint - Santa Luzia’s Sanctuary.

Finally, it is on to Paçô beach where you will meet the truck and observe it as it transforms into your accommodation for the night. Afterward, you will go sunset slacklining, listen to music, and have a relaxed dinner. Note that if you feel like taking a break from surfing, there are heaps of other experiences in the area, such as wakeboarding, boat trips, horseback riding, bike tours, or even a relaxing massage on the beach (optional experiences).

Friday: Vila Praia de Âncora

It is time to explore the surf spots around Vila Praia de Âncora, check out the mountains and the stunning waterfalls nearby, and go for a swim in natural pools. A sunset surf might be on the cards if you are keen. You will then have dinner at a charming local restaurant.

Saturday: Viana do Castelo / Vila Praia de Âncora

For your last day, you will have a cruisy morning or enjoy an easy surf session to finish the trip. At breakfast, you can go over the videos and photos that you have taken together. They will then take you to the drop-off location in Viana do Castelo bus station (between 8:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m).

A little note: This is a rough plan for how the surf trip usually rolls. Trips will either run from Maceda to Vila Praia de Âncora or from Vila Praia de Âncora to Maceda, however, they will inform you of the direction you're taking once you fill out the booking form.

Daniela Carneiro

Daniela is a surfer and an outdoor lover. She used to work as an environmental engineer and, in 2013, she decided to quit her job and start a trip to explore some of the most amazing places to surf like Portugal, Morocco, Indonesia, Hawaii, Mexico, and Brazil. While traveling, she discovered a passion for photography. Since then, she has been working as a photographer and a surf instructor.

Eduardo Ribeiro

Eduardo is a Portuguese surfer and a longboarder athlete. Teaching water sports is his passion, and you can count on his highly qualified experience. He is a kitesurf instructor and a surf head coach. He started doing road trips 13 years ago to surf and participate in competitions. Soon, he realized that every single road trip is magical by itself and he wants to share this lifestyle with you.

Location

The trip takes place in Northern Portugal, throughout the Green Coast. Between June and September 2024, you will be exploring the long sandy beaches with perfect waves, vast natural parks, iconic cities and viewpoints, and delicious fish and wine. The Truck parks in different locations, always on top of the beaches in stunning places. This region is blessed with numerous uncrowded sandy beaches, wild forests, and waterfalls in one-of-a-kind beautiful landscapes.

There are over 200 kilometers of coastline to explore in one of the best European surf destinations, where surfers of all levels can enjoy perfect waves in places like Maceda, Espinho, Estela, Cabedelo, Afife, and Vila Praia de Ancora. Trips will either run from Maceda to Vila Praia de Âncora or from Vila Praia de Âncora to Maceda, however, they will inform you of the direction you are taking once you fill out the booking form.

On top of all these dream surf spots, the Green Coast provides many outdoor activities like swimming in natural pools and waterfalls, hiking, horse riding, biking, and climbing. Daily breakfast buffet is included in the prices. At the Truck, there is a fully equipped kitchen that you can use for preparing your meals. Truck Surf Hotel has one small fridge for the guests and another one for the team. At the beginning of the week, they will go to a fresh food market so you can buy the groceries you might need. If the guests prefer, they take you to a local restaurant. Regarding lunch and dinner, they are flexible and they will recommend the best options during your trip. They often go to local restaurants or order food and eat at the Truck, and they also cook at the Truck (ex: barbecue).

Please book your flight to arrive at Francisco de Sá Carneiro Airport (OPO). Transfer from and to the airport is included. Truck Surf Hotel will pick you up from the airport between 1:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. On departure day, there will be a free transfer to Viana do Castelo bus station between 8:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. In Viana do Castelo bus station, you can catch a bus to Porto Airport (12 EUR per person, 50-minute trip) or Porto city.
