Experience the waves of Peniche! Tribu Surf hardly waits for the summer season among the waves of Peniche which is also called "Brazil in Europe". They believes that surfing, yoga, exploring the nature, and having fun are the best methods to keep you healthy and strong. The team is some kind of combination of joy, freestyle, relax, adrenaline, fun, party mixed with proficiency of surf instructors. These ingredients will make your surf holidays memorable for your lifetime. The surf camp mostly attended by Slovenian, but all nationalities are welcome!
In this retreat, you will be accommodated at Tribu Surf House. It has four bedrooms with five or four beds. In the kitchen, lives Tribu Surf Mama, who cares for your hungry bellies. Living room or "The Gathering Point" is the place for relaxation; playing pool or watching TV in the TV corner, where it is possible to do video analysis or watch surf movies, football matches, and more.
Another place for hanging out is the courtyard and a comfy hammock. Tribu team provides skateboards for free use and bikes for rent, so you can ride with others to the nearby cliffs and explore the beautiful coast of Peniche. Tribu Surf House is located 500 meters south of Peniche, the sanctuary for surfer souls.
In this retreat, the program is divided to surf practice and rest days, or better, days for exploring the area. The program is held in the next sequences: three days surfing, one rest day, two days surfing, and one rest day. The practice is held in the mornings, at different surf spots around Peniche. Some of them are accessible by foot, at others you need to jump into Tribu van and drive for maximum 10 minutes.
At the beginning of your surf lessons, you will talk about the theory of surfing, safety, weather, and wave conditions. The beginning is always the most fun, especially, since you usually imagine things differently to the actual reality. After this, you will have surfing lessons in the ocean. After spending several hours in the water, you will learn more theory and repeat what you have already learned. Thesurf lessons will take place on the Baleal beach in English.
When you get comfortable with the power of the ocean, Tribu Surf will record some of your best waves, which will be explained in detail during the surf analysis. So, you can be sure that you will know everything you need to make your surfing progress swift and pleasurable.
The lessons will take place in the morning, three days in a row, followed by a day of rest that you can spend to shop or to take trips, and then another two days of lessons. For those who spend more than seven days, the order of rest day and lesson days will be agreed upon with Tribu staff.
Tribu Surf instructors divide course participants to beginners, intermediates, and advanced. Trainees, who will show faster improvements, will hop up to higher level. From the white water to barrels! The groups are small, so everyone gets full attention from the certified professional instructors. All equipment is for free use 24 hours per day. Tribu photographers will provide with photo or video material and all mistakes will be analyzed with Tribu surf instructor and corrected immediately.
Every morning and afternoon, when bodies are waking up or are pleasantly tired, the Tribu yoga teacher Rok Vrhnjak guides you through relaxing surf and yoga program that helps to find balance, which is hardly needed for surfing. The exercises are organized in a way to help you faster progressing from the whitewater to the barrels. Tribu also takes days off to buy food, and drink, and stuff the big fridges with beer and stakes. The local store is near, so you can either go with Tribu Surf Van or by bike.
This retreat takes place in Peniche, Portugal. It has everything that a surfer needs for a perfect surfing holiday. There is more than 30 different surf breaks, due to its perfect location on the headland, surrounded by the sea, and strong tides. The old town center of Peniche speaks for its long history and fishing culture. It was built for protection against invasions from the sea, later on it was turned into well-protected political prison.

In good company, you can watch the sunrise and go straight to the water. Even if you are new to surfing, you will feel like you have always belonged to surf-subculture. Portugal is the hottest surf destination in Europe; not just because of the great waves and good swells, but also because of the many sunny days, good company, delicious food, cheap beer, and relaxed atmosphere. That is why it is known as the Brazil of Europe.
The open sea has always been an important source of life for inhabitants. It provides with food and enables great culinary. Outdoors enthusiasts will love the beaches where every rental for water sport under the sun is available. A step away from crowded streets of Peniche, there is a village called Consolacao. Here, you will find the Tribu Surf team, who awaits you with a cold beer and a hammock after the day of surfing.
In this retreat, you will be served daily full breakfast and dinner from Tribu Surf mama who cooks something special every day. Big breakfast and healthy dinner are important for your energy! Self-service breakfast includes many things; eggs, jams, ham, delicious dips, tomato, tea, coffee, fresh bread from nearest baker's shop, muesli, and so on. They can pack a sandwich or salad to the beach, to have more energy for surfing.
For dinner, you will have food good for your muscles. They have to many menus to put them on; cream vegetable homemade soups (leek, zucchini, cauliflower, carrots, and more), pork pot roast with carrot sauce, homemade gnocchi (house specialty bolognese sauce), turkey steak with sesame and Russian salad, mussels cooked with sea water, barbecue, vegetarian specialties (tzatziki, Greek salad, fried vegetable steaks, and more), and gluten-free meals.
As additional activities, you can add daily trips to your Portuguese experience, regarding to your interests. You may want to explore and experience the cities around.
Ericeira is an old fishing town with serious reef breaks, that is why surfing has been an important part of its history. The whole Portugal is well-known for its great surfboard shapers (surf designers). In Ericeira, Tribu team visits one of the famous surf factory and take a look at the process of making surf boards, from the beginning to the final product. Who knows, you may get an inspiration to make one yourself at home.
Lisbon is the city of youth: old, but picturesque, and lively. When the sun goes down, the party starts. Numerous bars and night clubs open and students come out to the streets. Before the party starts, it is possible to see the biggest oceanarium in Europe (by two fish and a turtle bigger than the one in Barcelona). Other amazing attraction is also the zoo, historical Belem, beautiful Jeronimos Monastery, Rossio Square, many museums and galleries, shopping centers, and more. While walking through the city, you may pass by narrow streets with stunning architecture and graffiti.
For all those, who are romantics, the medieval town Obidos is a must-see! The small town is located on a hill, from where we see the whole landscape. Since 1527, the town has been surrounded by a wall and well-preserved till today. The romantic atmosphere is a good makret sell for local people, who organize a lot of events with medieval feel. Nowadays, the town Obidos is well known as a place to get married. The visit to the town of Obidos will stay in your memory also because of delicious chocolate and cherry, served in chocolate cups.
Buddha Park, Buddha Eden, or The Park of Peace are usually combined with the visit of Obidos, as it represents a few hours relaxation after the intensive morning surf session. The place is real temple of peace, located in wine-growing land of Quinta dos Lordos, created by an old wine grower Jose Bernardo.
Enormous copies of sculptures of Buddha, Hindu, Chinese gods, deities, and soldiers can be found on 30 hectares wide space with lakes and green fields. So, everyone can find a piece of land for him or herself. The park was created as a replica to the great destroying of the biggest Buddha Bamyan in Afganistan in 2001. Tribu first finds the spot in Buddha Park for slake-line, or gum-twist, or they just chill out on the sun with the legs high.
Sintra is an ancient town on a hill surrounded by a mighty fortress around castles and villas where previous kings lived. It was one day the capitol of Portugal. After the tour dell prestige, you will head towards a country house by one of the last moguls of the 18th century. After that, you will head to the end of the world to the most western point of Europe, Cabo da Roca. A mighty view form high cliffs overlooking the ocean takes you back to the times of Christopher Columbus and his peers who wondered what could there be on the other side of the sea.

From Lisbon International Airport or Lisbon Portela Airport (LIS), take a shuttle (3.5 EUR) or a taxi (15 EUR) to the bus station Sete Rios (10 minutes’ drive). From the bus station, take a bus to Peniche. The bus ticket costs 9 EUR. Once you arrive to Peniche, use the GPS or let the Tribu Team know where and when you are. Tribu Surf will pick you up there.
