This is a course designed to make you a more complete all round surfer, this is a week where surfing comes first. Strategically placed in April, May, and October, the Green Wave weeks take place right when Portugal's best waves hit. If you can pop up and ride unbroken waves without being guided, you are definitely ready for this course!
Something Tiny Whale Surf's long list of happy returning customers can vouch for is their mission to have you feeling at home and as comfortable as possible during your stay. Whether you’re a solo traveler, a couple, family, or with a group of friends Tiny Whale Surf has plenty of options to suit.
All Tiny Whale Surf's room options, which include shared, private and private ensuite all come with everything you’ll need to be comfortable during your stay. All options include fresh linen and towels along with a few finishing touches like cozy blankets, extra cushions and candles for that homely feel.
The lodge is set in a peaceful rural setting. Its large gardens offer an outdoor pool, jacuzzi, secluded yoga space, dining area, table tennis table, bar and lounge area with fire pit.
The right hand border of the garden is home to the board & wetsuit shack as well as the lodge chickens, a firm favourite of pretty much every Tiny Whale guest!
If you can pop up and ride unbroken waves without being guided, you’re ready for this course. Build your water confidence, read surf forecasts well, understand trimming, and learn your first proper turns and cutbacks. Greenwave weeks are all about progressing and learning new skills to help you get the most out of surfing.
Coaching is broken down into easy to digest detailed chunks. Learning and progression are the goals, and you can expect a variety of teaching methods, including theory lessons, carving skate sessions, muscle memory exercises, in water instruction, and a large chunk of video coaching.
Spring and autumn bring better swell, less wind, and quiet beaches in the Algarve, meaning great wave conditions. Tiny Whale Surf Lodge is located close to a large range of beaches on both the South Coast - with swell from the Gulf of Cádiz - and the South-West coast - with swell from the North Atlantic Ocean.
All of the above, combined with Tariq’s (our Head Surf Coach) intricate knowledge of local surf spots and his dedication to get you out at peak condition times each day mean that you will experience the best waves possible on your course.
The tide is looking just right later in the day, so you will start with a leisurely breakfast before getting into theory sessions. Next, you will have a forecasting lesson and review the previous day’s video footage while Tariq dishes out advice and tips for the session ahead.
Then, you will be off to put your video feedback into practice. After making the most of the waves, you will go back to the lodge for warm showers and a healthy dinner before settling down for a well deserved drink by the fire.
The lodge is situated in a unique peaceful countryside setting near Lagos town, Portugal. The Algarve is slowly being recognized as one of the world's top five SUP destinations. Boasting two unbeatable coastlines, plus a variety of lakes, rivers, and lagoons, there's something to please everyone. Jaw dropping flat water paddling locations, perfect teaching conditions, and world-class surf make this an unforgettable spot.
Bursting with the sunshine and known for its laid-back lifestyle, the Western Algarve is the perfect holiday destination to unwind and recharge with some deserved rest and recuperation. Whether you achieve this by exploring the fantastic culture and unspoiled countryside, chilling out and catching some waves at some of Europe's most stunning beaches, or want to find adventure taking part in the endless outdoor activities on offer, the choice is yours.
Well away from the mainstream Eastern Algarve international tour operators, the West has largely stayed underdeveloped and still retains its natural charm. Traveling just half an hour from either the South or West coast up through the countryside to the Monchique mountain at 1000 meters, the whole area is speckled with small villages and towns with one foot in the past.
