The Shadow Mentawai surf camp is the place to live your experience and vacations in the Nothern Mentawais. There are different kinds of accommodations in order to fit your requirements! All of them with air conditioners and all the facilities you need to spend a comfortable stay.
The lodges:
- 2 triple lodges
- 1 twin lodge
There are 4 bathrooms outside these rooms with a hot shower.
The bungalows:
- 1 couple bungalow with private bathrooms, perfect for couples
- 1 twin bungalow with private bathrooms. Perfect for couples, friends, or solo travelers with privacy
2 double beach bungalows with private bathrooms (under construction, ready in March 2023)
This is a 2-floor bungalow. They are not connected, but if you are 4 friends, 2 couples, or a big family, this bungalow is perfect for you!
Note: If a solo surfer wants to be by her/himself in a room, there is the option to pay an extra 80 USD per night per bed to make the rooms private.
Close to the rooms there is a restaurant, a yoga chalet, a mini sunset bungalow, beach showers, a jetty, 5 boats ready, and a big private island just for you.
Restaurant
The restaurant can accommodate 14 people. However, there's an extra table to have 4 more guests. There are hammocks, puffs, and sofas to spend your evenings comfortable and chilled after a tired surf journey.
The restaurant offers Indonesian and International delicious food. The Indonesian (Mentawaiian) chef can prepare dishes inspired by Mediterranean cuisine, as well as Latam, and Asian food.
The bar
Cold beers, cokes, Fanta, sprite, tonic water, fresh coconuts, and juices are available. Here Shadow Mentawai also keeps the table games as Ludo, Janga, Catan, TheMind, Uno cards, Scrabble, Chess, or Domino. They also play daily surf pictures every evening on TV.
Free Wi-Fi
The Shadow Mentawai's Wi-Fi is free and FAST! However, we hope you enjoy the environment more than the wi-fi connection. Remember Wi-Fi will always wait for you at your home place but the coconut trees and the sound of the birds won't!
Program
The Shadow Mentawai is a surf camp located on a private island in the heart of the Mentawais. It's been run by local Mentawai surfers (family and friends) since 2012 however they are running The Shadow Speedboats since 2004.
Whether you surf or not, this destination will be special for you. The surf camp does not have neighbors, resorts, or people around. Just coconut trees and isolated beaches with untouched coral reefs.
Shadow Mentawai's vision and mission are to be as eco as they can consider the options they have! You will live the most natural way on your stay.
Surf, snorkel, trek, relax, laugh, and read! After your activity. The Shadow Mentawai has everything you need to have a pleasant stay, in a private place, with the best quality price, as it is owned and operated 100% by locals. The maximum capacity is 14 people (2 speedboats).
In the area, there are more than 20 surfing spots, most of them already known by anyone who already dreamt to come to Mentawai like Kandui, Rifles, Pistols, Ebay, Beng Beng... But there are many other waves (even secret local spots ;) ) that they also want to show you. The Shadow Mentawai team will let you know about them once you arrive and hopefully you are lucky and you can try some of that waves. Of course, do not worry. They will drop you to the known waves as well!
Yoga
Including surfing stretches before your morning or evening surfing session will bring health and fitness benefits. Stretching before surfing can prevent sports injuries. Don’t think that something as stretching won’t be effective. Improve your surfing skills and minimize injuries.
Thanks to the instructor, every morning and evening the camp offers free yoga fusion classes which is a mix of yoga, pilates, and pranayama (breathing) focusing on the surf.
The yoga chalet offers amazing views of the ocean. You do not have to bring your mat, there are 10 new mats for customers as well as pilates balls and elastics.

Pulau Bauasak, Nothern Mentawais
The Shadow Mentawai is located in the Playground Area in North Mentawais (Siberut). It is located on a private tropical island close to the famous Nyang Nyang Island (15 minutes by speedboat) called Pulau Bauasak. Check it on Google Maps.
The Mentawai Islands are an archipelago of islands located 150 kilometers west of the Sumatran coast in Indonesia.
It is not located in a crowded area, but at the same time, it is close to all the spots (the closest one is 3 minutes from home and the farthest is 35 minutes from home).
The Shadow Mentawai is surrounded 360 degrees by white sand beaches, reefs, coconut trees, crystalline waters, a tropical jungle, and a big menu of world-class waves. There are 3 waves less than 5 minutes from home (some of them are secret spots) and one of them you can get by walking (as long as the weather and conditions work).
What makes the surf camp unique is the location and the surf breaks on the doorsteps, most of the time: EMPTY. There is one left-hander, one right-hander, and one a-frames. Besides, nearby there are more than 20 surf spots like Beng Beng, Ebay, Hideaways, Nipussi, Burgerworld, Kandui, Riffles, etc.
Between 3 minutes and 35 minutes (the farthest surf post), you can reach too many different waves with the speedboats with a capacity of up to 13 people (including the team), but the team will split the guest in 7-8 pax per speedboat so the team can drop them to different spots regarding levels or requirements.
And at last but not least, what will make your experience unique is that Shadow Mentawai consists of locals, born and raised here and they know every single reef, corner, wave, people, and story of the Mentawai Islands!

Book your flight to arrive at Minangkabau International Airport (PDG). It is recommended that you stay in Padang for one night before you continue your journey to the Mentawais.
The price includes all transport from the first and last day (ferry ticket, taxi in Padang, charter from the harbor to the island (go and return), and speedboat for surfing every day including the first and the last one).
