Local Costa Rican legend has it that when God finished painting the sky, he washed his paintbrush in the Rio Celeste or Light Blue River. Beginning with a challenging trek through Tenorio Volcano National Park, you will discover the abundance of flora and fauna that abound in the park on the way to Rio Celeste Waterfall. Your guide will point out the wonders of the forest and explain the science behind Rio Celeste’s brilliant blue color.
One of the best ways to experience the sunset is on horseback at Playa Avellanas Beach of Guanacaste. The perfectly gentle and safe horses will carry you for two and a half hours of riding, beneath the canopy on the way to the beach. This is a great opportunity to see the Howler Monkeys and other wildlife in their natural habitat.
Fun is the name of the game. Transfer by ground to Diamante Eco Adventure Park and Animal Sanctuary. The park has a variety of family-friendly excursions including a zipline, Superman zipline, Quick Jump, Tarzan Swing, kayaking, botanic garden, stand-up paddle boarding, snorkeling, hammock beach access, hiking trails, and mountain biking.

Witch’s Rock is considered one of Costa Rica’s best surf spots. Made famous by Robert August in the movie Endless Summer II, Witch’s Rock (or Roca Bruja as the locals call it) provides world-class surfing along its sand bottom beach break almost every day of the year. Ollie’s Point (called Potrero Grande in Spanish) is a right-hand point break located only a few miles north of Witch’s Rock.
Ollie’s Point is near the Nicaraguan border and is named after Oliver North’s use of the location to smuggle arms to the Contra rebels. (Remember the “Iran Contra Affair”?) The take-off zone is next to a series of rocks with a slow entry, the wave then stands up and races endlessly over a rocky bottom into deep water almost ensuring a long ride that doesn’t close until the beach.
A one-hour relaxing massage can be arranged at extra cost..
