During this surf camp, you will stay in Surflab Lisbon House. This house is facilitated with one living area, a fully-equipped kitchen, bathroom, fantastic lounge terrace with a barbecue grill, and two small balconies. You can choose to stay in a single, shared, or double room.
The room is very cozy with a single bed. The decoration of this room reminds of Lisbon's traditional elements and surfing. The big glass door leads you to a small balcony with the morning sun. This room is perfect for both a weekend and a longer stay with surfing and discovering Lisbon.
The room offers two bunk beds and reading lights. You will be welcomed by a magnificent photo of Garrett McNamara surfing a giant wave in Nazaré. The picture is signed by the master himself. The two lower beds are covered with curtains providing private space.
The room offers two beds. In particular, the beautiful tiles from the 17th century known as azulejos are an eye-catcher. They give a touch of the real Lisbon alongside two vintage chairs that complete the look.
In the beginner level, you will get to know everything related to the material such as a surfboard, suit, leash, etc. You will also need to know the proper use of the surfing equipment and the safety rules involved in this water sport. Besides the strong practical component, the importance of a proper sea observation regarding the conditions and local practice will be emphasized in order to avoid ocean rip currents or other risk factors that may put your health in a danger. A qualified instructor will ensure to verify that the beach conditions are appropriate so that the class will take place on a safe spot.
At this stage, you will take waves correctly, put yourself standing on the board, keep balance, train to ride a wave, and practice simple turning. These techniques are the start to enjoy and to experience unique sensations this fantastic sport provides its practitioners with.
In the intermediate level, you will be taught the basic maneuvers of surfing and the development of your ability to surf outside. The techniques such as duck-dive, priority in waves, or various types of existing waves are developed at this stage to ensure you a phased and organized learning. In this level, the video that records surfers’ performances will be introduced. This session is an important tool for more and better training.
This advanced level is characterized by a detailed embodiment of intermediate difficulty maneuvering, heat simulations, and a so-called “Advanced Maneuvers”. The important development points of this level are proper wave ridings where you will perform different types of maneuvers as well as the various ways to generate and maintain speed. Training will be carried out in order to prepare surfers for a competition. Furthermore, video monitoring will always present at this level. Sessions will be held at places other than Costa de Caparica in order to develop skills on the most diverse types of waves. Therefore, the instructors can ensure your greater and better development.
Nuno Pombo is an experienced surfer both in educational and competitive level. He has surfed in many countries such as Indonesia, Morocco, Spain, Peru, France, the Azores, Madeira, Sri Lanka, etc. Nuno enrolled at IPDJ (Portuguese Sports Institute). There, he got Coach Surfing and Bodyboarding Level I in 2001 and Surf Coach Level II in 2003. He is a director of ASCC Surf School from 2002 to 2005, surfing champion of Portugal Cup 2001, and winner of several stages in the Inter-regional circuit of Costa Mesa and Surf Clube Sesimbra.
Diogo is one of SurfLab's surf instructors. He graduated in Psychology and specialized in Sport Psychology.
