Surf lessons for every level
1. Beginner
For people with zero experience or a few basic notions, this course gives you a step-by-step introduction to the theoretical and practical basics of surfing. Professional surf lessons taught by highly qualified surf instructors.
2. Intermediate
For people who already surf and want to develop their skills, in the intermediate surf clinic, you will have a local surf coach next to you, who knows all the best surf spots and who will give you professional assistance in the water. The goal of this course is to increase your wave count in some of the bigger waves and ride them in the green. This level requires a good amount of experience and physical preparation.
Surf theory
Besides the 15-hour weekly surf course taking place on the beach, they also organize two weekly theory sessions in the surf camp. Here you will learn about the main aspects of climatic conditions necessary to generate waves and which allow surfers to ride waves. Many people have discovered things they never really thought about and learned about how the oceans really work.
Yoga
Everyone at Surfivor can join their "Yoga for Surfers" program from April to October. It focuses on balancing your physical effort while surfing and the much-needed relaxation afterward. It has been very popular among their guests, even for those who never tried yoga before and special exercises will help you relax your muscles at the end of the day and keep your mindset for surfing.
Daily itinerary
Please respect the schedules of the surf lessons. Surfivor Camp policy states that surf lessons are always from Mondays to Fridays. The time of the day at which surf lessons take place depends on the weather, tide, and wave conditions and is decided by the responsible surfing instructor and written on the info board on a daily basis at 9:00 a.m. Weather and wave conditions are absolutely out of Surfivor Camp's control and therefore, Surfivor Camp can never guarantee for best surfing conditions.
They however make the most effort to be updated on recent forecasts to be able to decide on the best surfing times and locations. Should by decision of the responsible surfing instructor the surf lessons be canceled, due to dangerous or insufficient weather and wave conditions, SSC will organize alternative activities to replace surfing.
What is the best time to surf in Portugal?
If you are looking for bigger waves and a more challenging surf experience, they recommend late winter to early spring, with waves typically measuring two to four and a half meters or six to 15 feet but that does not mean summer does not provide its fair share of great waves either. This time of year is more appropriate for beginners because the waves tend to be gentler measuring around one to one and a half meters or three to five feet.
Should you bring your own board?
When attending the surf camp pack all the equipment needed is included but you can bring your own equipment if preferred.
