Set amidst a manicured tropical garden, Surfing Tonga standard fales are equipped with queen-size double and/or king-size single beds. These fales share a centrally located amenities block (men and women separate) where you have hot showers. As their resort isn't open to the general public, they are able to clean the amenities block several times daily, keeping it very clean and tidy. There are also 110 and 240 volt power outlets in the amenities block.

There are no sand-bottom beach breaks anywhere in Tonga. All surf spots throughout the Kingdom break over coral reefs and most surf spots require intermediate to advanced skill levels. However, the coral reefs need not deter those beginners looking to enjoy some fun in the surf as there are several surfspots at Ha'atafu Beach which offer excellent and very safe surfing options for learners and supervised children. All surf spots at Ha'atafu Beach are approximately 100 metres offshore from the beach and a safe paddle across the lagoon. Beginner surf spots are safest at around two hours either side of high tide and only on days of small swells (up to 1 meter wave height). Best beginners surf spots are "Motels" which is located directly out front of Ha'atafu Beach Resort as well as "Pass Lefts", "Pass Rights" and "Leftovers" which are all located in front of the "Vakaloa Beach Resort". Again, it must be emphasized that all the beginner surfspots are only safe on small days as dangerous strong currents can quickly develop around reef passes once wave size increases beyond one meter. Additionally, it is strongly recommended that all children have experienced adult supervision at all times.

There are a variety of activities available at Ha'atafu Beach Resort and one of them is sea kayaks. Surfing Tonga offer both single and double sea kayaks for their resort guests to use free of charge. The lagoon area is perfect for enjoying a leisurely paddle with friends and family. However for the safety of young children, Surfing Tonga require that they are supervised at all times. Strong currents can develop around the reef passes during larger swells and we want to ensure that children are kept safe. If required, Surfing Tonga have life jackets available for children too.

This surfing holiday will take place in Ha'atafu Beach Resort. It is located on the main island of Tongatapu, 21 km west of the capital Nuku'alofa on the Hihifo Peninsula. Ha'atafu Beach is not only home to some of Tonga's best surfing waves; it is also Tongatapu's premier recreational swimming and snorkeling beach. Ha'atafu Beach features safe all-tides swimming within the expansive lagoon area which also provides sanctuary to an astounding variety of tropical fish and corals. A true snorkelers wonderland. The coastline here faces west-northwest, making the prevailing east-southeast trade winds directly offshore and is open to groundswells from winter storm activity in both hemispheres. This makes Ha'atafu unique in being one of the few surfing locations in the South Pacific to enjoy world class surfing conditions year round.

"This place absolutely lives up to it's reviews. The most stand out thing about this place is the hospitality. Moana and Hola, Anau, and Ryan will make you feel at home and treat you as friends. Their children are also awesome to chat to and be around. The beach is beautiful, everything that you'd want in a tropical holiday- great swimming, snorkelling etc. We stayed in a shared amenities fale the first night and then had a fale with our own ensuite for the remainder of our stay. Comfortable rooms, no frills, just everything you need. "

"Breakfast and dinner, yum! Love the way that they use local and fresh produce. Freshly caught fish every night for dinner and all cooked really nicely. We went as a couple, really enjoyed it for a relaxing break. A super family friendly resort so will definitely be returning with our own family one day. Couldn't say a bad thing about the place, wishing I was back there now."

"We love staying at Ha'atafu Resort. This was our second time there and it was much the same as the first- amazing! This time we had our 14 month old daughter with us. We felt safe and secure taking her there as we knew that the owners Moana, Anau, and their families would make her feel as welcome as we both felt when we first went there - and they did. We stayed in one of the newer fales with an ensuite. It was clean, comfortable, and met our needs. They provided us with a baby bed and had high chairs in the dining room. The food was great - especially the array of fresh fish. The lagoon was loved by both us and our daughter - was extra special when we spotted numerous pods of whales swimming by. And to top it off we had a full 9 days of sunshine and good waves! It was a great holiday, we came back feeling refreshed and relaxed. Can't wait to go back. "

"We just had an 8 night stay at this little piece of paradise, Moana and Anau treated us like family and looked after our every need. They made us feel at home straight away, the food was absolutely amazing, always looked forward to breakfast and dinner, the chefs are well trained. The resort is clean, with beautiful tropical gardens surrounding the lovely fales. We had a fale with an ensuite and fridge, the bed was huge and comfortable, and the fan was more than enough to keep us cool. The fale was serviced every day, with clean sheets and towels every couple of days. The beach is a 1 minute walk from the resort area with surf and the most beautiful tropical snorkelling out front. Hundreds of beautiful tropical fish to explore. Kayaks were handy to paddle around during the day and kept the kids entertained. We saw Humpback Whales passing by on a couple of the days while lazing in the sun. I highly recommend this resort as a well run Family/Surf and Sun hideaway. We will be back!"

"Just what the doctor ordered - 12 days of relaxation, great surf, fishing and something for all of my family of 6. Safe for the kids to roam, kayak or snorkle and paddle out to the reef to surf. Beautiful setting and fabulous food, especially the fresh yellow fin done in so many ways by Steve the master chef! Thank you Moana, Anau, Hola and Steve for an unforgettable holiday! We'll be back! Met lots of great people and families also."

"A wonderful welcome to Tonga! The pick up from town went smooth and the drive out into the county was fascinating. The environment of the resort is beautiful, the room comfortable and clean, the food delicious, local and fresh (with the yummiest 'Ota Ika' I tried in Tonga!). I took advantage of a local tour of historic sites - Able Tasman was here in 1643! - and visited a great little museum a short walk down the beach at neighboring resort Blue Banana. I enjoyed the peace of the beach and the company of other guests over the communal dinner table. The warmth of the welcome and the quality of the facilities make this a place I would love to visit again. Thank you!"

"Hi lovely Moana,Missing you already!!! Was great to see my boys and parents and they seemed happy to see us to but from what I have heard they will miss being terribly spoiled by their Nan and Grandad. We cant thank you enough for your hospitality you and Hola go above and beyond to please. Brett and I both agree that had we have stayed anywhere else in Tonga, our holiday would definitely not have compared. Please say hi to the kids from us. My youngest two boys regret not getting the chance to meet your lovely children. I hope you have a most enjoyable year and we look forward to keeping in touch. God Bless and lots of love"

"Malo e lelei Moana,Tom and I arrived home in the early hours of this morning and I have just transferred the balance owing. It should appear in your account I guess today or Monday. Please let me know when it arrives so I can be sure the transaction is complete and hasn't gone to Nigeria! Thanks for you fantastic service, friendship and care for myself and Tom. Tom struggles with language and processing words to put a sentence together but with you and your family he gained confidence to speak and initiate a conversation. So thank you."

"Just wanted to drop you a line and again say thanks for one of the best holidays we have ever had! The beautiful setting was only surpassed by the beautiful nature of the the staff! The food that was prepared for us was the best we have ever had at any resort we have stayed at and this was reiterated when we stayed at the other two establishments we had booked into. If we had the choice again, knowing what we now know, we would have spent our whole holiday at Ha'atafu with you guys. I will be putting a posting onto TripAdvisor in the near future sharing with others how much we believe that this is the best place to stay in Tonga by miles!"
