The name, Surfers' Garden, says it all. Beautifully located overlooking the Pacific, surrounded by palms, the Surfers' Garden is an oasis for surfers and other ocean-loving adventurers. Sunset and sunrise views are fantastic, as well as views of the neighboring islands and mountains. The accommodations are a bit basic, ranging from shared dorm rooms to private doubles with ocean views. My wife and I stayed in an ocean view double. The air conditioned room was adequate, the bed comfortable, and the view very nice. It was also nice to be able to check the surf from my bedroom and walk a few steps down to the waves! Surfers' Garden has both a communal kitchen and restaurant. Like many hostels, the Garden's communal kitchen could use more utensils and cookware and a little more attention to housekeeping, but it was nice to have access to a fridge and stove. Vegetarians, my wife and I did our own cooking, but the Garden's menu looked appealing, a nice combo of international offerings, and at very good prices. The breakfasts also looked like a good bargain. The owners are great, friendly, courteous guys. They are environmentally aware and make a real effort to run an environmentally friendly business. It was also a pleasure to surf with them and share some old school surf etiquette. One thing to be awre of: the town of Mariato has had problems with adequate water supply during the dry season. The Surfers' Garden has its own well, but it's good to check the water situation when you book.
My wife and I stayed 5 nights at the Surfers Garden in a private beach view room and enjoyed our stay. We were very lucky and had the place to ourselves. The location is excellent with great views of the reef surf break making for an easy check of conditions throughout the day. The sunsets were stunning. The staff was great and friendly and the on site meals were more than satisfying. The highlights of our stay were a day trip to Isla Cebaco for surfing and snorkeling as well as 2 consecutive nights of phospherescents in the ocean surf. This place is definitely worth a visit!

Surfers Garden, with steps to the beach, overlooking a surf break, has modern functional rooms with A/C and ceiling fans. There are some doubles with en suite bath, a dorm, shared kitchen, common room, bar & food service. There are outdoor tables, hammocks and sofas for guests to watch the waves & sunset/sunrise over the water. The staff is generous with advice & helpful when problems arise--as during our stay when there was a water shortage. I like the quiet time policy (11 PM to 7AM); hoteliers in Pedasi ought to adopt it too. However, like many surf hostels I've stayed in , the shared kitchen here, though it has a full size fridge, spring water dispenser & two burner stove, is poorly equipped to handle the transient population. So, iff you're planning to cook for yourself, I suggest packing a camp kit of pot, plate, cup, tableware, as well as food supplies. There are no shops or restaurants nearby, but construction is underway so this will undoubtedly change .
