Can you catch green waves on your own? Can you duck dive on a shortboard or turtle roll efficiently on a longboard? Can you turn left and right? Can you perform frontside and backside bottom turns? Can you perform frontside and backside cutbacks? If you answered no to one or more of these questions, you need to sign up for the surf camp.
This means that Surf the Greats needs to assign a surf instructor to work on your drills through the course of the week. The option to skip the surf camp is only available for intermediate and experienced surfers who can perform all the drills above.
You will take an afternoon and visit the home to the Madame of Cao, the tattooed mummy that ruled the Moches. This site is located only 45 minutes from Chicama.
Chicama, located in Puerto Malabrigo on the central coast of Peru, is known to be the longest surfable wave on earth. This surfing jewel offers a 2.2 kilometers ride with nice barrels and long walls for high-performance maneuvers. A ride so long that you can surf a single wave for over 2:30 minutes. The wave divides into six sections, named El Cape, El Point, Las dos Tetas, El Hotel, El Hombre, and El Malecón.
This is where the wave starts. Usually breaks well during summer, between December and March, when north swells hit the area constantly. There is always something to surf in this section.
This is where the long 2.2 kilometers ride starts. It breaks in front of a rock formation but on a sandy bottom. Easy take off and with low tide, it delivers nice perfect barrels. A good speed section.
This is the second section where all turns really long. The wall extends for over 10 to 15 feet while you are pulling turns. You might think it will close out, but then it always opens.
Located in front of the Chicama Boutique Hotel and Spa, it is the fastest section. You must use all your strength to speed up. Most people just go fast without pulling any turn.
If you reach this section your legs should be destroyed by now, but use your energy reserve as this section provides the best barrels (especially during big SSW swells).
At this point, you will have been in the same wave for over 2:30 minutes, for sure the longest wave you have ever ridden. This section also provides nice barrels and long walls for high-performance maneuvers. You should end just before the Pier or you will not be able to tell your friends about this wave.
It is located 60 kilometers to the north of Trujillo, in the Chicama Valley, Magdalena de Cao, in front of the sea. This place along with Huaca Cortada and Huaca Prieta make up the Archeological Complex “El Brujo”.
The Archeological research started in 1990 sponsored by Banco Wiese. Huaca Cao Viejo was built by the Moche culture, about I century A.D. and was abandoned in 600 A.D. before the El Niño phenomenon.
The architecture is similar to Huaca de la Luna. There are seven superposed temples, as consequence of the internment of the older structures. Possibly that action would have occurred when there were disasters, such as strong rain or earthquakes.
This package includes daily breakfast, lunch, dinner, and water with meals. You can also have complimentary filtered water at The Chicama Boutique Hotel and Spa.
If you have the time and desire, Machu Picchu is an option for you to visit. It will require flying from Trujillo to Lima and Lima to Cusco.
