Discover the extraordinary waves in Sri Lanka. Feel the breeze and surf the tide as you find yourself rejuvenated. Don’t worry that you cannot arrange your holiday well. Surf South Sri Lanka will organize your stay with anything you might want for your dream surf holiday. There are also a range of other activities to keep you busy in the day and some great group evenings with fish barbecue, fireworks, and local entertainment. It is a perfect location for you to get to the best southern surf points without the crowds.
Lucky Guest house has 5 double rooms with solar powered hot water and rain showers in the bathroom. The rooms also feature four poster beds with mosquito nets and overhead fans. All the bathrooms are en-suite and similar.
During this surf camp, you will be given 5 days of group surfing lessons by Ralph. The lesson will last 90 minutes each day and will be held at Weligama Bay beach break. It will be a great place for you to learn surfing because you will discover a connection with the ocean and catch your first wave. You can get there in the early morning because it is usually quiet until 08:00. So, it is a good time to practice on uncontested waves.
This surf camp will take place at Lucky Guest House, located in Gurubebila. Gurebella itself is a quiet village between Midigama and Weligama. You can find two local surf breaks there, namely Plantation point and Coconut point.
Weligama stretches about two kilometers across a shallow sandy beach. It is one of the best surfing places in south of Sri Lanka. The bay is somewhat protected from the wind. If the rest of the coast is blown, it would be better to stay here. Many lefts and rights that appear at different tides are the best swell from the southwest. The waves are easy to surf when small and hold up to 5 feet.
A big swell on a beginners' break is kook carnage with boards flying everywhere, hence very entertaining to watch. You will get some lovely clean barrels from a left and right hander, up to 6 feet on a good day and a 400-meter ride. It has very few tourists, just cows and the cricket team so you may just have the line-up to yourself. The town and the fisherman are all nearby.
You can catch fish or have a barbecue for lunch and dinner at an extra cost.
You can have an Ayurvedic massage treatment at an extra cost at Barberyn Ayurveda Resorts. Ayurvedic massage is a deep tissue massage, superb once you get used to the amount of oil and wearing a loin cloth. It will be great for releasing any build-up of lactic acid in the muscles from a day of physical activity, also great for fixing those niggling sports injuries.
You can fly to Sri Lanka by taking Sri Lankan Airlines or BMI. Then, you will arrive at Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB). After that, you can be picked up by an air conditioned taxi arranged by Surf South Sri Lanka. This will cost you 106 EUR for a one way trip for two people. It will take about 2 to 3 hours.
