Café Ceylon is a 1 minute walk from Kabalana Beach and the Rock. Café Ceylon comprises of two lovely Colonial Villas housing five rooms with en suite bathrooms. The friendly staff will make you feel welcome, and the lovely garden will encourage you to relax.
Café Ceylon has an excellent restaurant with a Michelin trained Head Chef, we know you will enjoy the eclectic menu. Café Ceylon is located on Matara Road just across from Kabalana Beach and only a few meters from the local bus stop. It’s also short distance away from Ahangama town center and shops.
All rooms come with air conditioning and free Wi-Fi. Breakfast is not included but can be taken there on your free days.
Surf School Sri Lanka adds a twist by the introduction of Balance Boards that they practice their yoga on. Your practice will take place in either their beautiful atmospheric main hall or in their gorgeous tree shaded garden area. Each class is intentionally designed to activate your body and mind to support your surf connected balance board sessions.
"Bread Fruit Sessions" built a beach under a magnificent old bread fruit tree and in the cool shade of the trees, they experience the fun of using balance boards and balance cushions. Fully simulating surfing movements from the jump up to footwork to turning to the longboard cross step and onwards.
The "Bread Fruit Sessions" are something that everyone loves but will also have so much relevance for your surfing progression. Over many years, Surf School Sri Lanka has developed an amazing dry land coaching system that simulates your exact body movements used in surfing.
At all levels, they have had incredible success with this system. Allowing thinking to take the back seat and relying on muscle memory are the real goals in sport and they tie in so much with the Headspace mindfulness and focus training you will complete with them there.
Surfing produces a magical meditative state in nearly all who do it. The total focus makes surfing not only one of the most exciting and worthwhile activities possible but also it’s one of the most mindfully healthy.
Surf School Sri Lanka has been working alongside Headspace
Surf School Sri Lanka makes its program as varied as possible and the core is the two and a half hour morning in water coaching sessions. But, it’s vital for your progress that you have a rest, too. After each 2 day and 3 days coaching period, you will have a day off. Boards are available for use after coaching hours and can be hired on full days off,but careful of how tired you may become.
No matter the length of your course, your surf coaching begins on Sunday, leaving you to arrive on Saturday or, of course, a few days before. Surf School Sri Lanka plans rest days for you as well, leaving you free to relax and enjoy this wonderful island. For example, with a 7-night stay, you will start having the coaching on Sunday, have a day off on Tuesday, and you will finish this program on Friday.
Tim Jones is irector of Surf School Sri Lanka, Surf School Lanzarote, and SUP Yoga Sri Lanka. From Wales, he’s been surfing for over 50 years and coaching for over 35 years. Beginning coaching in the early 80’s he’s worked continually at all levels of surfer. He’s been involved in the structure of coaching awards since 1982 and works closely with the International Surfing Association as a course presenter and advisory. He has been given the job of developing surfing in Sri Lanka by the Minster for Sport, Mr. Dayasiri Jayasekara.
Dan has been surfing since 3 years of age and has grown up in a surf coaching environment. Spending most of his early years surfing in the Canary Islands he’s also well traveled having lived for periods in Australia, Indonesia, and California. He uses an intuitive technical approach to those he coaches and draws on a huge ability to record and analyze almost instantly the progress of his surfers. He’s therefore able to take these skills into video analysis sessions that are truly progressive.
The school is based in Kabalana, Sri Lanka.
You will be served vegetarian breakfast and lunch. Breakfast is provided by Surf School Sri Lanka but can be taken at Cafe Ceylon on your free days. If you have a special requirement, please communicate with Surf School Sri Lanka.
The nearby airport is Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB). Surf School Sri Lanka will pick you up at the airport at an additional cost.
It takes between 2 to 3 hours to reach the south coast and Ahangama and Surf School Sri Lanka will arrange for your own taxi service to meet and greet you upon arrival and drive you to your accommodation at an additional cost. This fee is prepaid and they can also offer a quote on a transfer from other locations in Sri Lanka.
